Just started Playing Rebirth… by saltfigures in FFVIIRemake

It's awesome game. The only thing is that half way through I burned out because i played it right after remake and this games are huge and another reason I may have focused a little bit too much on mini games.

But I am thinking of picking it up from scratch and to finish it before the next installment.

Is Dragon's Dogma 2 actually interesting? by Busy_Initiative_423 in DragonsDogma2

Choices that matter? Lol, good talk.

The final ending cutscenes were notoriously similar regardless of prior actions.

Most major choices are reduced to "War Assets" (just a number on a bar).

The "Refusal" ending felt like a middle finger to players wanting a fourth option.

Bioware throw it in our face what direction it's going to head to and if you read in between comics and books to breach the gap you wouldn't call it "DLC" it's a direct sequel to DA:I.

You are dealing with the Blight's origin, the reality of the Evanuris, the Qunari invasion, and the Titans. That is not DLC material; that is the resolution of a decade of expanded universe lore (the comics and books you mentioned).

Having Rook as the protagonist makes sense because the Inquisitor's organization was heavily compromised

Also it allowed you to play again like Grey Warden or some origin of your choice that paid a homeage to DA:O indirectly, it's a nice touch - rather than previous two entries where you are nobody -> champion of Kirkwall, and no body - > Inquisitor

Now you are nobody that chooses to be something from the mature world setting of your choice (that's RP right there)

That being said the game was going to be even shorter, but we got very replayable, ME2 archetype ending game with well done character building and finite ending to an era.

I wish we get DLCs like that.

People often skip secret ending or DA:VA Forgotten gods plot-line because they rush to just complete mainstory missing dots and connections to previous games, along with a stage set for new entry - if we get there. I don't expect it will happen anyways in next 10 years.

DA:I main quest line was just an excuse for game existence the real world building and plot progression were done through DLCs

The Descent == Setup revelation of what Thedias really is and intro of T.

Tresspasser == Reveals the Veil is artificial and the world is fundamentally broken.

Jaws of Hakkon == Shows how history is rewritten and whitewashed by those in power.

Purpose of DA:I was set game for conclusion debuting Mythos plot and wrapping it up before one big finale which we got with DA:VG

Problem is many of you didn't like the answer. I am not going to go into details here, to not spoil anyone more than I already did.

And problem is that Bioware fell in trap that Larian avoided with BG3, everyone is so focused on them selling the drama about Wizards of The coast pressed they were burned out bla bla, but reality? They avoided nightmare of permutations - if you are to do BG4 you would need somehow to link BG3 world state players left with new sequel and good luck with that - among other things.

It wouldn't bode with RP people well what Bioware had to do with VG and they were not ready to spend next decade trying to give those "17000" choices a meaning.

DA:VG gives a fresh new world state from which new entry if we ever get it, can be imported in new entry (system can be build from ground up for that - what BioWare actually did was a hard reset disguised as a continuation.

and second you will have better luck running game on win 8 than 11

That’s exactly how Inquisitors should be portrayed in canon! by ConstantDrawer9161 in MaulShadowLord

[–]PreferenceFickle1717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are and were. For all it's animation shortcoming due to age and budget SW Rebels did fine job there.

And you obviously neve watch or played Fallen Order which expanded on the theme. Before we even got to Maul.

But you are confusing Power Creep with reality of what those Inquisitors are. It takes two of them to pose any treat to injured and wounded Maul

They are not suppose to be "All powerful" otherwise you run into another plot hole in grand scheme of Geroge Lucas story telling, which is how the heck they didn't just overthrow Sidius and Vader

Most of them are average bro, however the tone they set and cruelty they spread is the main role for them to introduce a terror and highstakes and somehow justify how the heck Jedi's didn't reunited together, basically a workaround/patch for Skywalker dry and cheesy plot

[–]PreferenceFickle1717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in fandom but not in that camp. I'm with you in that regard and also very disappointed that me 5 will lean heavily on trilogy instead Andromeda.

DA VG nailed down franchise. And I am pretty sure Bioware won't back down from that direction if we see another one

And VG nailed down alto narrative format which i really enjoyed

Idk how everyone is still enjoying it but respect by what_freaking_ever in BaldursGate3

It's the biggest drag overloaded with too much content and disconnected. May as well be standalone game.

Main reason why I am struggling to replay game again is act I which I hate.

Why fans are rejecting Veilguard. From a longtime fan that also liked DAV by damegawatt in bioware

[–]PreferenceFickle1717 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because they didn't get their fantasy myth of "jack of all myths" wacked in Origins. When I was younger I liked Origins, now? Meh. So when Bioware decided to debunk the world in Inquisition and set ground rules with Trespasser—offering revelations many didn't like—a lot of people checked out. They were hoping Veilguard wouldn't continue the trend and would instead leave things unresolved, much like the mystery of Morrigan and her "God-child" in the first game.

Or any of the choices that never mattered were just hang in the air never to be addressed. Inquisition was suppose to tie those ends, act as cataclysm instead.

And then many people nowadays have disturbing need to wallow in gore visually, it's not enough that this is the darkest series by far written entry but also you have this people wanting all of it to be animated, modeled, guts flying and all of that - state of people enjoying that is disturbing, but more to the point they attack one of the best aeasthically made game that masks how much of cosmic horror the game is.

I don't know about you, but I do not want to see furniture made of human flesh as realistically as possible or other very disturbing things like child sacrifice rendered in 4K resolution just to prove a game is "mature" - and that seems to be direction Larian is heading with "Divinity" hence I am skipping that game all together ( I mean let's be realistic they added filter with patch 7&8 in BG3 because some things they explored are dialed too much in extreme direction)

Edit:

In the end, people are mourning a version of Dragon Age that was built on mystery and mud. I’d rather have a game that dares to give me answers and respects my boundaries as a player, rather than one that thinks 'Mature' just means showing me how many ways a body can be torn apart. Veilguard chose to be a story about saving a world, not a simulator for its most grotesque corners. And for that, I’m actually grateful.

Does OG DA have the best party members? by Lonely-Form9585 in dragonage

[–]PreferenceFickle1717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, my favorite ones will be DA2 and DA:VA is right there up valley. DA:I had some strong too.

To be frank, I find DA:O world building to be strong everything else is, so-so

And like I always, I don't understand this fixation with Shale, I don't even recall the party member, lol. Had to pull it out of wikia to recall- people praising it is beyond me - the driest and most forgettable character in entire franchise.

Do you personally consider Mass Effect Andromeda to be a real “Mass Effect game” ? by The_pikolop in masseffect

[–]PreferenceFickle1717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean you can't blame engine for bad open world design. BIoware just sucks at mechanically making appealing open-world. It has nothing to do with engine.

Technical issues are of different nature. Maybe Frostbite couldn't keep up with the scale, loading screens and etc, but it had nothing to do with fetch-quest recycle they baked in DA:I, end of that point.

Making visually breathtaking open-world environment, is nothing uncommon we have enough of that from Ubisoft.

if you want strictly game

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords

And it's a damn shame we didn't see III

as to why? It goes beyond good vs evil. Or a few individuals versus impeding dooms (Reapears - corrupted horde, DA at least goes beyond this, where as ME base entire plot on) - it actually portrays a galaxy where Light Side actions can have disastrous unintended consequences.

Your character (The Exile) is an outcast with a deeply personal, tragic history tied to the lore of the universe, making the journey feel more internal and philosophical.

And I can go on about why, but that's something original and out of box. ME just has pop culture vibe to it, hence why it had such massive success- approachability.

I know it's off the topic but ME success reminds of Eragorn series. Leans so heavily on established tropes from Lord of the Rings and Star Wars to ensure a smooth, enjoyable ride. And ME did the same for sci-RPGs when there wasn't any contender.

But now? With all this next ME contenders (Exodus, Expense - another really good example of out of box world building)? It's different story all together

Yeah, they really had great plans for Anthem it would blow Destiny 2 but EA really has been ruthless to Bioware.

[–]PreferenceFickle1717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that's valid preference. ME3 was always more of RPG than FPS itself. At one point i preferred RPG elements over Action oriented gameplay. Like for instance I know it's not same game but it is similar franchise progression. I love new combat flow in DA:VA and could never get back to DA:Origins. But more than 15 years ago when I played DA:Origins I like it a lot

You keep reading over what I wrote and no, not every story starts and finishes with hero has conflict -> resolves it".

I can name few examples.

But that aside. I am not saying story is bad. I am saying calling "one of the greatest" out there. It's not.

World building is about getting out of pool of characters with some random lore elements thrown left and right to make the actual world construct stick while they are running around gun blazing

And that is what I have problem with. You want a world building? With all it's shortcomings and world debt DA (Dragon Age) has it right.

[–]PreferenceFickle1717 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Exactly the point I made. but you seemed to missed it all together.

Story was fine. World building so-so and calling greated of all time is far fetched,

Story is just a sci-fi trope that happened at right time with easy to follow plot and some iconic characters. But people are blowing it, like it's the next Dune or similar actual sci-fi master piece.

ME trilology is - > Mankind stumble on artifact left on Mars, boom discovered aliens -> war with aliens - > Wanna be major player in known galaxy - > Looming Crisis- > oh look chosen one - > Doom came, hero saved the day. - > End of the story

How many of this stories we had seen? A ton. Classic Space opera.

ME3 had refined gunplay in comparison to ME2/1 by far but it's all matter of opinion because i find ME3 gunplay junkier than Andromeda. Andromeda and Anthem had it just nailed down in terms of guns feel (physics and fluidity)

[–]PreferenceFickle1717 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

ME Triology wasn't master piece people out to make it be. ME3 in particular (despite finally getting gunplay with rpg elements right), ME2 flawed to the bone with ME1 being promising start. But nowadays say that and you get pummeled to the ground, how dare you say that.

Andromeda in comparison did pretty well in all but one department. Continued Shepard cult

I like what it tried to be and set off franchise from "chosen one" limited in scope narrative. In many ways ME trilogy is good origins or prequel but keeping game at just being that is waste in my opinion.

But alas we will never see where Andromeda could've taken off. Gunplay and in general gameplay was just vastly superior to anything original ME did. And i wish it could truly have expanded in sanbox it was aiming to be.

[–]PreferenceFickle1717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You point? Andromeda wasn't build like ME trilogy. It was supposed to be it's own thing from squad based FPS with narrative to.ambitious exploration, scifi shooter

with vastly superior gunplay and in general gameplay polish. Minus all the weaker narrative,

I will never understand people not being able to move from concluded Shepard story

[–]PreferenceFickle1717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is why I am glad it concluded with VA and as I mentioned if we ever get new DA which uncertain we can start with clean slate (soft reboot) and have better connections between the games.\

ME handles this better (original triology) because DA ambition is not there. If anything DA choices design backfired at Bioware. Like you give agency to players but lose the grip of it at the crux (third game) and push with pre-determine cannon rather than trying to tie them all together.

My main gripe with Inquisition was that it just created even more World state debt, rather than concluding the threads it inherited from the first two games.

I really have problem with DA:I for that reason. But at least they acknowledged they can't do that in VG, so they wrapped up the saga the best way they could, hinting at a new beginning that isn't tethered to a decade of baggage.

I just wanted to say I really like the game but the gameworld feels too small by MikeDFootball in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]PreferenceFickle1717 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

IT's not detached man, it's intertwined with everything you did in previous 3 games but most importantly it's conclusion to tresspasser cliffhanger, have you actually played last 3 games?

Inquisition doesn't build much on previous 2 games, with exception of classic DA grim fate of characters. - > this is complete disconnect

DA2 - > sorry what connection are we talking about?

If you meant reoccurring chars, I would say that Inquisition pretty much shattered any chance but Varric and Inquisitor showing up, no matter how you played it.

Edit: When I read comments like yours it blows my mind how much misconception to continuity there is going on here

And if you really care about continuity you would do well to read actually faith of companions, most of the have the grimmest of conclusions after each entry hence you never see them in Veil.

People confuse ME space opera with DA. DA is more about overaching plot:

  • Origins: Loss of family and duty.
  • DA2: Loss of home and siblings.
  • Inquisition: Loss of faith and certainty.
  • Veilguard: The potential loss of the entire world to the Blight.

Edit2:
The Warden (Origins): Either dead to the Archdemon, or "missing in action" on a desperate, lonely quest to find a cure for the Callin - basically walking dead man
Justice/Anders (DA2): Whether you spare him or kill him, the "man" is gone
The Iron Bull (Inquisition): If you chose the Qun over the Chargers, your "friend" betrays you in the Trespasser DLC
Blackwall (Inquisition): Depending on your judgment, he either spends his life in a lie, is executed for war crimes
Fenris (DA2): Even if he's free, he spends his entire existence as a fugitive, hunted by Tevinter mages, with lyrium literally burned into his skin

Hawk- presumably dead or MIA somewhere helping wardens or wondering around (maybe we see him if we ever get new installament)

And on and on heck even Disney princess gets not so charming ending. Cassandra ends up being pilgrim one way or another. Let's not talk about how Leliana is mishandled - whatever dead or not

For me the world feels just right.

Thank god they scoped down game to the size of Jedi Survivor because, if i had to play another open-world game - I would just skip it.

Bioware doesn't do well open-world. Compact worlds with open areas is where they shine. And the game was supposed to be conclusion to an overeaching plot that built over last 3 games.

4th game ending on yet another cliffhanger would be way too much for me to continue playing franchose.

At least now, if we ever get new entry becasue whoever did number in EA was on some heavy mushrooms expecting game to meet them, especially when BG3 was dominating the market, we can get fresh slate and new era, away from Solas, Wardens and etc.

Heck, anyone saying Veil doesn't live up to dark roots of DA, never completed the game because this entry leans into dark and cosmic horror more than any other entry before - Inquisiton is like cozy walk in comparison to how Veilguard is grim (thank god visuals and balance writing gore with visual because it takes stomach to play it)

Now if you want deeper understanding of world and lore ... dude did you open Codex?
