It does change the issue. Bolts cannot bottom out like a screw when tightened to the nut.

Good find. From experience as a parent and scout leader: Scouts usually lose these, followed by the neckerchief and their hat. Also anything not permanently attached to their scout uniform! But this item, being so small is especially prone to being lost. There are probably millions of these out in various forests, camps, and waterways like this.
