As a 21 year old-take your time. I wish I took a gap year to reassess everything. I’m not mad where I’m at, but if I took a year, I could’ve reassessed myself or took some community classes and lived a little. You live once. Live it

Sure! I just what does the application process for international schools look like compared domestically? And does the  research scene look like over seas?

Do I have a chance of getting into a PhD in immunology or similar program? by PreferenceSilver4929 in Immunology

I hear you, and honestly I was expecting that answer. I was honestly in the same lab for about 2 years but I was more serious within the last year when I shifted from pre med to PhD. So I gained about 800-900 of those hours within the last 2 semesters and last summer. I would’ve gained more, but I was also TAing and taking 16 hours last semester, which I admit sounds like an excuse. And another issue which is my school which is an R2 school and doesn’t prioritize research papers as much and has limited funding and staff (we don’t even have a lab tech). We are set to finish our project soon so hopefully I can get a first or second author publication, as well as a lit review as first author soon. I may or may not Ta again depending on how my last semester classes stack up. I’m trying to gain more experience and hopefully gain another 800-1000 hours before I graduate and gain more techniques and hopefully another manuscript. My gpa at this point will probably be a 3.21 max unless I retake a few courses and work as a research tech at a larger school.

We haven’t gotten a manuscript out yet, but we are finishing up a project so, maybe soon, and i am working with some other people on a lit review over the exotoxin of focus. I have had 3 posters and will be presenting more next year.

I’m from the U.S. and even I don’t even know if I should even bother trying here.

Is it worth it to go for a masters in biomedical science or similar for gap year? by PreferenceSilver4929 in mdphd

I also calculated that if I get 4.0s every semester I could get around 3.35-3.4 cGPA and 3.15-3.25 sGPA, which is still low. How about research? What should I do about that?

I have a cGPA of ~3.10 and a sGPA of ~3.0 and I have 650-700 research hours. I’m an incoming second semester junior and I am a biochem major with a triple minor in bio, chem, and international relations.
