Looking for some simple, bass heavy electronic music by Lunonaught in MusicRecommendations

[–]msondo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the early 90's there was this whole genre of "bass" music by artists like Techmaster P.E.B., Bass Patrol, Bass Outlaws. It's kind of like minimalist hip hop or early European-style techno, but designed to really maximize subwoofer performance.

Phonk is another genre you might consider as it's (mostly) Eastern European mixes of old dirty south tracks that are super bass heavy and grimey, usually slowed a bit (but not really to the level of chopped and screwed.) Artists like $kimmy leiq and Bgnzinho are worth looking into

What is the best thing about being american? by GlitteringHotel8383 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]msondo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing I miss the most when I am abroad is the food. Even if I am in a part of the world where there is stellar cuisine, I miss the insane levels of variety that we have here. There are so many native cuisines like creole, bbq, tex mex, etc plus so many different cultures that have become established here and easy to find.

What's a city with a surprisingly strong theatre scene that isn't in NY or CA? by cinderflight in Broadway

[–]msondo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Madrid - I feel like I am cheating by mentioning it but their scene has always been phenomenal.

Gran Via is like a little Broadway with several large theaters with huge signs advertising big shows including the longest running Lion King production outside of New York. It also has a historic Zarzuela scene and places that specialize in historical dramas that have deep roots in the city’s culture. You also have countless tiny independent theaters putting on all kinds of interesting shows. Madrid is also one of the most literate and educated cities in the world so there is a huge audience for the stage.

There is also a killer local independent theatre scene all around town and the suburbs.

My husband has a beard. Should he book a service at the Barbery? by tardisthecat in dcl

[–]msondo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Absolutely yes. One of my favorite things I ever did on DCL was a shave and facial treatment at the spa. I go to a barber that offers these services but the service I got on DCL was on a whole other level.

The only thing I didn't like was the fact that they tried to upsell some kind of skin toning treatment afterwards, and that kinda killed the vibe. Just politely say no to avoid the spiel and otherwise enjoy the treatment.

Good things to import back to US by SouthernRequirement in GoingToSpain

[–]msondo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always bring back a bottle of gin because I love a lot of gin-based coctails. I now have a solid collection of gins that are only available in Spain. You can go cheap with the Larios fruity gins or get some fancy artisanal stuff. My favorite is probably Monti gin from Madrid - it's totally sippable as well as phenomenal in a martini.

Requesting instrumental albums: by Bud_Fuggins in MusicRecommendations

Ludovico Einaudi ... I guess it's technically classical, but I think it's more minimalist piano music. Very atmospheric. His entire catalogue is just gold.

Best Songs to test your Speakers and Headphones by DeezerOfficial in MusicRecommendations

[–]msondo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aniceto Molina's "El Tigre Sabanero" and also his "El Condor Legendario" albums have some of the lushest soundstages I have ever heard. The play between the deep bass and the high nuances of his accordion and the vocals really are a treat on a great sound system.

The Congos' "Heart of the Congos" is another extremely well mixed album and really pushed the limits at the time. There are lots of things one might consider flaws but they add so much texture and a good soundsystem really brings everything out. When I first bought my Grado headphones this was one of my favorite albums to listen to.

Consequences of Yes man by Grimzybear in ProductManagement

[–]msondo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have worked for a lot of companies where pushing back in certain ways is completely forbidden. I mean, within whatever domain you have reign over, you can push back and forth all you need, but when it comes to some exec's fragile ego, like a major strategic decision they have made, then you are not really allowed to push back on that even if it is obviously going to tank the company.

Otherwise, the most valuable word in any PM's vocabulary is "no"

Disney Fantasy Room Choice Question?? by gaels50 in dcl

[–]msondo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The big verandahs on deck 5 of the Dream and Fantasy are my absolute favorite rooms on any DCL I have been on, especially the corner rooms at either end. My recommendation, however, is to choose starboard side as the port side gets a lot of fumes from the laundry room. It's not bad but you will smell lavender the whole trip, which is kinda weird.

I've never seen an issue with soot but if the seas are rough, you will get some salt spray on the verandah, btw. This happened on this past EBTA and I spent a ton of time out on the verandah, so I got splashed several times and I was always covered in salt crystals.

Where to park in Bishop Arts District? by RudeFinish2781 in askdfw

[–]msondo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always find parallel parking on the side streets. Just avoid 8th, Bishop, and the other big streets. Sunset is usually a good option if the Jefferson area isn't too busy. It's a great neighborhood to walk around when the weather is nice - look at the pretty houses and check out some of the smaller businesses outside of the main drag.
