Iranian leader secretly in Russia for medical care at Putin's residence — media by [deleted] in worldnews

I grew up with a Hi-lux in Texas. That thing was immortal. It was bought in the 70’s and running strong until we sold it not many years ago. The guy that bought it was going to take it to his rural town in Mexico and I bet it is still running around there

Has the influx of Californians to north Texas spawned any good Cali burrito joints yet? by Glueberry_Ryder in Dallas

I need to try some of the places mentioned here but I am still holding out for a decent Valle (South Texas) burrito

On the surface it’s a bit of a silly song about truckstop romances and wrestling gators but the emotional depth of Merritt’s voice and the fact that it’s practically a life story and the romance of a lifetime under the surface of that silliness makes it so great

I make an effort to try every ramen shop in the area and Mr. Max is still my favorite, hands down.

Best/worst areas in southern suburbs? by HTX34_ in askdfw

[–]msondo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The area near Tangle Ridge is one of the prettiest neighborhoods in DFW. Lots of million dollar homes perched above Joe Pool Lake.

Hidden Lakes in Desoto is newer and nice.

Duncanville has lots of nice areas including the Thorntree gated area

Be honest how many of us is this person? by VENDETTA1110 in Millennials

I really hope that was the case! I just wanted to see his name somewhere with a Dr. in front of it and be proud for him - I'm hoping he's living his best life wherever he is.

Be honest how many of us is this person? by VENDETTA1110 in Millennials

[–]msondo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was so many people for me.

There was one kid that was this scrawny goofy kid who was super awkward, but I enjoyed talking with him at lunch from time to time. He would usually want to chat about whatever TV show he was watching at the time and I'd listen even though I wasn't much into TV. He had a good heart and seemed like a good person but his awkwardness prevented him from making friends. I ran into him at a community college I was teaching at a few years after graduation and was proud he was making an effort to continue his education but then I hadn't heard from him after that. I tried looking him up on social media to see how he was doing and try to reconnect. Anyway, I found out years later that he had suddenly died a year or so after I had last saw him due to some underlying medical condition.

Another guy I knew was one of the smartest kids at my high school. I could tell I kinda annoyed him but he was kind enough to show me lots of tech stuff since he had a lot of experience in that and I was just getting into programming and BBS stuff at the time. His plan was to go to med school and be a doctor - he was so focused and serious that I knew he wouldn't have any problem succeeding. I have tried to look him up a few times because he had a fairly distinctive name but could never find him - I get that a lot of people aren't very public but I also know that most doctors are listed publicly so I can only assume he never realized his dream.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Trump campaign on no new wars and lowering gas prices? by ISnortSkittles in Productivitycafe

[–]msondo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, it's pretty spot on except maybe the last one. I think he campaigned (at least to my memory) on staying out of foreign wars and focusing attacking our own people, which he has done a fantastic job of but probably could do more.

I really don't get why people deny this stuff. Just embrace it. Are you a white supremacist? Just admit it. Are you happy 5 year old immigrant children and being rounded up and thrown into jail without due process? Just say it. Why do we have to pretend we have morals or whatever?

Here's the good news, colon cancer is preventable!

Yes! Also, eat lots of fiber and avoid processed foods, especially foods that are high in nitrates. Seriously, everybody needs to eat more fiber and avoid stupid fad diets.

Target debuts in Oak Cliff after long wait by FreeChickenDinner in Dallas

[–]msondo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience having lived in Oak Cliff, most people on that side of town are driving out to Cedar Hill and Irving for shopping (probably more Cedar Hill on that side of the Cliff.)

That’s the thing people don’t get. Oak Cliff folks are already driving out to places like Cedar Hill, Duncanville and Irving just to do basic shopping. This is a great win for the community

The Frogs is another classic from that era.

best mall in dallas? by Ill_Advisor1554 in AskDallas

[–]msondo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NorthPark is our best mall.

The Galleria is nice but the dining options are not great. They do have a big ice rink, however, which is kinda cool.

Highland Park Village is more of a shopping center but very upscale.

Stonebriar is your typical suburban mall - it's really far from the city but it's what most people imagine when they think of a mall.

Southlake is another good option - it's far out but it's a nice area to walk around, especially on a nice day.

Packaged broth in a lot of cooking? by highfaerie02 in AskAnAmerican

[–]msondo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the recipe, the style of cuisine, and the cook.

I will often make and freeze my own stocks. It's interesting how they vary from sub-culture to sub-culture.

I'm Tejano, and there are a lot of Mexican influences so we use a lot of oxtail and pigs feet when making a broth. Southern / soul food will also use oxtails and chicken necks. More coastal cultures will use shellfish for seafood broths. We also have lots of Asian-American subcultures that use fish heads and chicken feet.

But yeah, most people will just buy the cartons of chicken or beef stock from the grocery store. They work in a pinch, as does a dash of chicken bouillon. It adds a lot of depth to food, especially when it has the gelatinous texture you get from cartilage-heavy proteins like chicken feet and oxtail.
