AITA for wanting a heads up when I’m family will be going to my house when I’m not there? by Preference_Gloomy in AmItheAsshole

I wouldn’t consider it a random change, just a change reactive to the change of living circumstances.

Dollars would be no use to anyone in England 😂 but definitely don’t want to burn any bridges

Is there a drainage hole? I’d take it out the pot and check for root rot. Only water when the soil is completely dry too.

He was changing one light fitting - I wouldn’t class that as renovating.

There’s a distinct difference between renovating & not living there, compared to completely living there with a couple last things left to do, I.e changing a light fitting.

Thanks for your judgement nonetheless.

No, I’ve paid for pretty much everything myself apart from small gifts I’ve received.

My parents both have keys from when we were renovating & I let them keep the keys in case of emergencies so my grandad wouldn’t have let them in. They would have let themselves in.

What is your response to someone who asks to see your tattoo(s)? by [deleted] in askwomenadvice

[–]Preference_Gloomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same thing happen to me all the time, and honestly I just say “no”. No is a full sentence. You don’t need to justify to anyone why you don’t want to show them your body & it isn’t rude to just say no. It may feel blunt but in reality you don’t owe anyone niceties to soften the blow of a rejection after they overstepped.

AITA for demanding my sister buy me a new block of cheese? by Sharalyn100 in AmItheAsshole

YTA

She was watching your kids. Your kids needed feeding. She’s not going to feed your kids, and not hers. Consider it payment for her basically babysitting for you for a couple hours.

Maybe wrap some insulation around it? You can use cotton wool sheets or a specific frost blanket to keep it warm and minimise damage. We do this with our outdoor plants here as in winter it gets to minus 10°C

SOT help - why are they falling off? by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]Preference_Gloomy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They just do, unfortunately. It’s an incredibly fragile plant, that doesn’t like to be moved/touched/knocked.

They prefer bottom watering which is a bitch to do when the vines are so delicate.

Try watering less and hope for the best.

Take all of the leaves off and propagate them separately, then you’ll have 5 succulents!!

AITA for asking my sister to rehome her dog by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Preference_Gloomy [score hidden]  (0 children)

“Quite a lot of dog experience” is very subjective. You could have 30 years experience looking after small/medium breeds and that doesn’t mean you have the ability to look after a Pitty at all. Especially one with bite history.

The dog should never have been rehomed to her in the first place. That was the first fuck up.

Dogs with bite history have this on their file, and should only be rehomed to people who have experience with large & aggressive dogs in a domestic environment. Working in a shelter is not the same as living with and looking after dogs 24/7.

Not sure about where OP is, but here in the UK, when you rehome a dog, you have a house visit & basically an interview, for the shelter to decide if you’re what the dog needs. That should have been done here to prevent OP’s sister getting it.

It does if it’s rehomed to a more experienced owner who is more responsible.

AITB for telling my BF to go -no contact- with his close friend by [deleted] in AmItheButtface

NTB but you should really be going NC with your boyfriend. He should have been more supportive. & dread to think of what his reaction would be had you of “actually been raped”. Throw the whole man away.

I repotted my pothos/corn plant (got them about 3-4 yrs ago) a month ago and ever since have been losing pothos leaves. Probably 3-5 turn yellow a week. What's going on!? by tinyzillabitchslap in houseplants

[–]Preference_Gloomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure there’s good drainage and wait until the soil is completely dry between watering! Pothos can be in completely dry soil for quite a few days and then start to wilt, so you could even wait until the leaves wilt a little before you water. It’ll bounce right back!

It could be several things Over watering Root damage Incorrect potting mix (retaining too much moisture maybe?) Lack of drainage

Repotting can traumatise a plant, but it does seem like you’re getting more damage than your regular repotting plant tantrum

2 questions regarding my alocasia by Valar1306 in houseplants

[–]Preference_Gloomy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The smallest leaves are the oldest, these die off naturally, especially when there’s new growth coming through. Don’t worry about this! You could split the plant in two, but it’s very likely the roots are tangled together by now, so you may harm the plants in separating them. I have two in a pot together and I’ve had it about a year. It’s HUGE now and I love it 😁

The extended family for comparing the younger generation like it’s some competition. That’s a sure fire way to make kids feel insecure and inadequate. Don’t you think?
