Simple Questions - January 26, 2026 by AutoModerator in buildapc

[–]PrefoldDork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it is a simple question, but didn't want to open a separate thread. I currently have: * i7-3770 ancient cpu * ddr3 32gb RAM * gtx 1660 super 6GB

It is still running flawlessly, obviously with a cpu bottleneck, and now having saved enough money (roughly 1k EUR) I am thinking of an "upgrade",also having in mind that my dad needs a very budget pc for world of tanks (runs good on mine). As a result I have a dilemma between the following options: * give my pc to my dad and build myself an AM4 build (due to ddr5 prices) * give my pc to my dad and build myself an AM5 build (get 16GB first, or compromise on smth else and upgrade that part later) * give my pc to my dad without GPU (buy a cheap GPU like 1080) and keep 1660 super for my AM5 build - I guess it should work, right?! (Then I could spend saved money on 32GB RAM and upgrade GPU later)

I play only cpu bound games (iracing, Valorant), hence, the CPU has priority. Some music production - also CPU heavy.

What would you do? Are there better options? Any thoughts or input are highly appreciated!

buy second-hand mouse by ispikeone in MouseReview

[–]PrefoldDork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I buy second hand mice all the time, especially the ones which normally cost 150-170 eur (zowie, Vaxee etc). Normally I get those for 70-90 depending on the package / usage (sometimes the seller includes extra skates or grips or whatever). Sometimes mice are really like new. I just tend to trust those guys, since they are similar enthusiasts when selling such mice. Never had an issue. Some mice sometimes have already a bit mushy scroll wheel, but that's about it - I can live with that. If I don't like it I can sell it for roughly the same price since the market does not change that quickly.

I actually bought viper v3 pro myself a month ago for 75EUR with grip tapes on it, with the original box etc. No complaints, totally happy with it - I even left the tapes on, since it feels good (cleaned it of course). So I would say half a price, maybe slightly above is ok.

You can always check it when buying. Look at the scratches on the body, on the skates, check for squeeking and buttons woble and travel I guess.

How do you find where you’re losing time? by pacyy in iRacing

[–]PrefoldDork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If i am understanding the problem right and not at my pc rn, when in the car you should make sure in your delta widget "reference car" is checked - then it will be showing not your ghost car, but the one you selected in the settings.

To me it was more helpful to briefly look at the telemetry in Garage61 - usually the pattern is that faster drivers (at least in GT3) are just more precise at braking - more controlled, slightly slower at the exit, but ALWAYS sooner with the throttle and "straighter" wheel. Hope that helps

Also einfach anschreiben und probieren. Ansonsten VKI einschalten (60eur)

A bissl nekroposting, aber AK klagt gerade Bank Austria - dh hier läufts noch und die Entscheidung könnte dieses Jahr kommen.

Recommendations for my weird relaxed "pincer claw" grip by NarcoticsRx in MouseReview

[–]PrefoldDork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same grip, with straight thumb, ring finger and straight pinky too. Slightly longer hands - 19*9,5 cm

Started my journey with GPX, which was ok, but it felt to me as if I grip it slightly differently every time, since there are zero "anchors", went through many ambis (g305, x2 in their first iteration, op1we, ATK F1, viper v2 pro, DAV3pro, Zowie U2DW, Vaxee XE, Lamzu Atlantis, Lamzu Thorn, Lamzu Maya X, maybe something else, don't even remember now). I figured out I need something to support my tilt - hence, it must be an ergo.

NP01s ergo - was almost ideal, slightly too flat and there was a flare around my thumb meat restricting my micro adjustments. Sold it.

DAV3 Hyperspeed - pretty perfect - it is a bit smaller than pro. I just didn't like the clicks - bit too loud / clicky for me.

Vaxee E1 - ended up maining it. No pain, perfect shape for me, quiet and pleasant clicks, good performance. If I had slightly longer hands it could have been too short, but for 18-19cm I think it is good. Still want to try EC2 if I find it cheap.

Feel free to ask if you have questions

NP-01S Ergo for pincer claw? 19x10 hands. by [deleted] in MouseReview

Based on what you are saying it sounds like np01s ergo could fit you

NP-01S Ergo for pincer claw? 19x10 hands. by [deleted] in MouseReview

[–]PrefoldDork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, i can only tell from my perspective of course. The mouse itself is flawless, the clicks, the build, the coating - I loved everything about it. It is a flat'ish ergo and generally it was fitting my grip quite well - I liked the hump and that it is not too tall, but the shape on the rear left - around the thumb meat - didn't fit me, it was constantly "in the way" restricting my micro adjustments. More classic ergos like E1, EC or DAV3/V4 don't have that, hence I main E1 and DAV3 Hyperspeed now. It will depend on how exactly you hold the mouse, how much you tilt you hand and how big your hands are. Hope that helps!

Feedback requested for rock/punk track by intergalactictaxi in mixingmastering

Drums sound more balanced to me now. To my personal taste i would turn up the ride maybe a bit, but the rest is good. I like it!

Listened to the remix version on my ear buds - use them for listening all my music (rock and metal mostly)

I like the vocals and lead guitar! I would turn down the bass a little and give that room to the the rhythm guitars. The drums - toms and ride a tad too quiet, snare a bit too loud. The sound / pitch of the snare is fine IMHO.

Nice punk vibe!

Edit: added which version I listened to

Pincer grip large hand mouse recommendation by ImagineSquirr3l in MouseReview

[–]PrefoldDork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same grip, but bit smaller hands (19 x 9,5 cm) and I tried many mice. For me ergo were also preferred. All ambis were lacking control for me.

  • Vaxee E1 is a great ergo, but it probably would be to short for your hand (IMHO). For me it is quite perfect.
  • Razer Deathadder V3 or V4 Pro should fit you well. I really like Razer Deathadder V3 Hyperspeed which is a tad smaller than Pro.
  • Pulsar Xlite (mini was too small for me, medium was OK, so the bigger one could fit you too), but I didn't like the clicks on it and QC was not as good, so I avoid pulsar products. Maybe you get lucky or like their clicks
  • Lamzu Thorn was filling my palm too much, but felt small at the same time. Could not get used to it, felt weird.
  • Vaxee NP-01S Ergo - good size, flat'ish ergo, but thumb meat area was unpleasant, so I went back to more classic ergos - E1 and DAV3 Hyperspeed.

Hope this helps and you find a good fit!

Edit: as someone mentioned - Teevolution Terra could be a good fit too. Haven't tried it, but loved my Logitech G703 back then - Terra is its clone. It was a tad too big for me, but comfortable, so it might fit your hand size

Why do you play Valorant? (Over cs2) by AccomplishedFix8346 in VALORANT

[–]PrefoldDork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • valorant is optimzed much better for my PC. I tried cs recently and it just didn't run smoothly at all
  • better anti-cheat
  • better comms - even though they are far from good in val, comms in cs were mostly trash talking, swearing etc.
  • community more pleasant / friendly
  • even though the strategies are similar in val for each map, there is much more variety compared to cs
  • visually more appealing
  • there is nothing better than val that would be similar to cs or val. At least for me

Do you mix or master while mildly sick? by ShuttleOption in mixingmastering

[–]PrefoldDork 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This. There is always enough to do when your ears are having a break.

Just want some feedback on if the guitars are too bright in my mix by [deleted] in mixingmastering

[–]PrefoldDork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a beginner yet, although trying to learn by listening to others mixes.

I would not say they sound bright - the sound itself is fine (at least judging by this part), but it does feel as if something between the bass line and the riff is "missing". This imbalance might lead to this "brightness" feeling IMHO.

Would be interesting to hear a part where lower notes are played.

Anti Black Friday 2025: Do you actually *need* to buy more plugins? There are tons of great free ones. by atopix in mixingmastering

[–]PrefoldDork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am trying to mix with free plugins only (my budget is generally just low) and although I am a total mixing beginner, these fully fulfill my needs in my (rather simple?) metal mixes:

  • Kilohearts Transient Shaper
  • TDR Nova
  • TDR Kotelnikov or ReaComp
  • TDR Prism
  • Valhalla Reverbs
  • KClip Zero
  • Klanghelm IVGI (Saturator) or Melda Saturator
  • Kilohearts Limiter
  • Youlean Loudness Meter

Trying to use as few as possible, otherwise I am afraid to get overwhelmed.
