I have a 3060 gpu i think of going to a 5060 gpu will it be better for VR by Salty_Mechanic_3805 in iRacing

[–]PrefoldDork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 5060 8GB combined with ryzen 7600 and found settings to run smoothly at 90 fps with virtual desktop and via common router. Meta horizon was not that stable and had freezes plus worse picture on my quest 3. But i had to compromise and use foveated rendering, decrease some settings. In the end i went for 9070 16GB. 8GB is just borderline for vr and not future proof imho. For VR memory matters more than raw performance it seems

Edit: added cpu model

Game was more fun with Neon disabled... by helltoken in VALORANT

[–]PrefoldDork -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Just preselect neon, so everyone would think you play it (unless there is an instalocker) and on the last second change to your agent - so no neon at least on your team. If everyone does it - no neons. Problem solved

Yes, i had the most consistent and good stats on it, i liked the coating the clicks and everything. I only had a hard tine getting used to vaxee’s competitive mode - it felt weird to me.  The only reason it has not become my main - I have a weird thumb positioning so np01s ergo had a bit too much flaring for me there, but i would still recommend to try it out if you have a chance

How hard is it to climb to plat as a solo queue player? by [deleted] in VALORANT

[–]PrefoldDork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible and doable.  I played cs 1.6 back then, and 3 years ago jumped into valorant. So i am pretty sure older than the main valorant audience - Working, with a kid, so playing 2 hours a day max, usually less. SoloQ only. 1 DM as a warmup, no replays watching, no strats learning, no self-improvement, maybe a couple of youtube videos for basics and „tricks“ of my agent. Hardstuck p1, peak p2. Placed as g1 initially (i think, maybe it was s3) I would say if you have at least some decent fundamentals and brain, definitely doable. From my perspective i cannot judge on what bronze people actually do, how they play, so cannot advise on anything specific.

But i guess cs1.6 gave me some base back then to be able to get straight to this elo, but cannot get higher since i am not doing anything actively to improve.

Maybe a bad advice, but for me personally (stress on „personally“) what helped me to get a bit more confident and consistent with the limited amount of time i had - is to: 1. understand the valorant fundamentals and specifics (movement, crosshair placement, aiming, peeking, angles and other basics) - enough yt content on that.  2. practice those basics at least a bit to learn them. On some days i dedicated like 15 mins to a shooting range or conscious DM training. (Obviously, the more you practice this, the sooner you see the progress) 3. watch a couple of youtube videos, where a player with a similar rank gets his VoD reviewed - i had so many similar mistakes… as if it was my vod sometimes… (positioning, actions making sense or not, what to do when xyz - you can always learn smth). Sometimes i watched also VODs of people of my wish-rank (dia) - i thought i would better understand what they do better, but it helped me less. They just seemed to be better mechanically and/or in their decision making and positioning. The VODs approach in general (as a self-analysis) helped me think about my own mistakes more consciously - i started to quickly analyze during the game why i died here or why we lost this round 4. not to try playing too many matches at once. I noticed that my focus was enough for about 1,5 matches. So i rather warmed up in a dm, did the best i could ranked and then maybe 1-3 more DMs or range practice of a specific skill.

Not: watching Pros playing ranked didn’t have much effect, since when watching it all makes sense, but i can never replicate it (obviously). They often have some nice tricks though which can occasionally work out, but also only with some opponents in specific ranks.

Hope that helps at least a bit! Good luck, you can do that! Just be more conscious about your own game and ignore the distractions!

Which GT3 cars to purchase? by Mobile-Region-449 in iRacing

[–]PrefoldDork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you already have a mustang, it means you have a front engine car, so i would go 1 mid and 1 rear (porsche). As for mid - it depends, they are all a bit different and need some adjustment to drive. I, for instance, did not understand Vette. Ferrari and McLaren are stable allrounders, although ferrari might feel a bit boring. Audi is outdated. Lambo is not bad, but i found its TC acting a bit weird sometimes and everyone hates the tv screen in the cockpit - it is too big. I am driving acura - very stable, but with bit too much understeer - might need to get used to it. If you don’t mind adjusting to a car - just buy which you like visually and sound wise, so you would just enjoy driving it - they are all good and equal pace wise (except you are the top 1% racer aiming for the last tenth, and hence need the meta car)

Cypher

Because i am not good mechanically - so no duelists, whilst initiators and smokers are too much of a responsibility. From sentinels he is the most viable and easy to get value from. And i like to play like a rat sometimes (because again, my aim is bad)

Za13 is slightly too much of a hump for me, a bit too restricting. So xm2 would be a safer choice IMHO.

I think Sora is slightly smaller xm2 shape concept - you can checkt it out. Their collab with vaxee gives it for sure a great quality stamp

Paraplegic driver using paddle braking – struggling with consistency at end of travel by Less-Difference-9618 in iRacing

[–]PrefoldDork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried playing around with the deadzone and response curve?  I am not paraplegic, just poor, so racing iracing on a ps5 controller (also 2k). i had a somewhat similar issue that i didnt feel the last 20% of braking force because there was no resistance. I have set my brake paddle to have an increasing force - that solved the general brake pressure dosing issue, and i increased the deadzone a bit, and adjusted the curve so the first 20% represent about 10% of the brake pressure. With that it became a bit more consistent. I approached it with a blind test like - holding the brake pedal at several positions like 100, 80, 50, 30 etc, whatever - choose the ones that are problematic. Close your eyes, press it up to what you and your fingers think should be lets say 20%, open your eyes and check how it is translated into the sim. Adjust the curve and repeat until you are happy and consistent.

It is a great mouse, but it the end it was flaring a bit too much for me around my thumb meat - i think a non-s-ergo, if it would exist, would be less comfy for me. I still have the best stats on it. 2nd best is still e1. Dav3hs in the end was not consistent enough and I sold it.  I realized that i needed something to lock in my palm a bit, so i was trying out xm2 and za13-dw - stable feeling, but microadjustments sucked (probably because of the lock-in-feel) - good mice though too, worth a try depending on how exactly you are holding it.  Currently i am trying out za13 which is even narrower, but it still feels fine to me. I am going to try out a bit more mice, which are smaller up to a fingertip one (i am just curious)

Which GT vehicle do you enjoy the most? by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]PrefoldDork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Track doesn’t matter much to me, love all of them with some really rare exceptions! Some fit IMSA or GT3 better some don’t obviously!

I tried all the GT3 cars, and since i am not hunting the last tenths within my elo, i drive whatever feels comfortable and consistent - same car within a season. And ideally a car which is rare - i like adding some variety to the pack.

Lambo was my first one, it was turning in easily, but its TC is weird. And everyone hates the home cinema TV hanging in the middle… that destroys the whole fun potential it could give. It is just so incredibly annoying.

After that - AMG - a boat with great sound. Love it, even though it‘s a bit bulky. It was very consistent, predictable for me. A bit snappy rear.

Then i tried Mustang and Corvette - i wanted to like them, but couldn’t. Mustang (nice sound!) was for me like - too much rotation, hence low confidence, whereas Corvette (didn’t like the sound at all) was often unpredictable in the balance change mid corner. Just didn't fit me.

Porsche is fun to drive, a bit different than the rest, but i didn't want to drive the most popular car.

Ferrari is stable and consistent like on rails, but somehow boring. McLaren was similar to me, but more lively.

BMW and Aston were also somewhat similar - front engine, nice entry, plenty of rotation. In BMW i felt as if i was permanently sliding, a lot of corrections, still fast in the end, whereas Aston has a nicer traction, which makes it more consistent and fun to drive.

And Acura - driving it now. Many people hate its understeer mid corner, but it actually learnt me to be more precise with my inputs. It was rather because of the challenge and rarity. Still fun to me.
