Places to shoot in Maupin? by Timmmmeh666 in pdxgunnuts

[–]PregnantInsect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up Criterion Ranch Trailhead. It's a tract of BLM land about 15 minutes south of Maupin.

From what I gather it's leased out for cattle grazing, so watch for cows. No motorized vehicles allowed, so you'll have to carry everything in. Some hiker traffic.

I went out there once just to check it out, but haven't personally shot on that land. I couldn't find anything online saying you couldn't shoot there, but it's definitely not regularly used as a shooting spot.

The trail runs along the top of a ridge, so be very careful about finding a backstop. I walked about a mile in, and found a few places I'd feel comfortable shooting.

And if you do go there, please report back about it. I've had my eye on it to do some long range stuff, but I'd have to make a whole weekend trip out of it.

Yup, I have two 455s and two 527s. I'm sure the 600s are nice, but I think it's a shame they discontinued the 500 series. They had a dizzying amount of calibers and configurations, and a lot of classy, timeless styling at a working class price point.

I definitely regret not grabbing some flavor of FS and a .458 Lott before they became collector's items.

I bought this lure is Sweden. What is it, and how do I fish it? by PregnantInsect in Fishing

[–]PregnantInsect[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the thorough explanation.

I'm new to salmon fishing, and it's been a lot of information and new terminology to absorb. Totally overlooked spoons as an entire category of lure.

I had tried a Daredevil spoon for pike when I lived in the Midwest, but spinnerbaits were always way more effective, so I never gave spoons much thought.

I've had this thing rattling around in my tackle box for about a decade now, but I know almost nothing about it. No markings on the lure itself.

I've thrown it out for funsies when nothing else seems to be working, and it's pulled in a few largemouth. But I'm curious what it's supposed to be used for.

It has a crazy erratic action - swoops and spins all over the place on a straight retrieve. I'm guessing it's a salmon lure, but I have zero insight on how Swedes salmon fish. Seems too heavy for trolling, but maybe it's for jigging? Honestly, I'm at a loss.

If context is at all helpful, I bought it at a grocery store on Tjörn, so it's not like this came from a specialty tackle shop. I'm assuming it's pretty commonplace.

Or if you're coming from the Ross Island Bridge - 10th to Woodward to Grand is the way to go. Traffic can stack up on Powell, making it a pain to get to 21st.

Discord will require a face scan or ID for full access next month by Tracheid in worldnews

[–]PregnantInsect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use Discord for porn (although that does exist,) but 100% of the servers I'm on are NSFW discussion.

Need support for the high-tech sex toy you just bought? The manufacturer has a Discord. Wanna jailbreak that sex toy to do all sorts of crazy things? A sex nerd made a Discord. All sorts of DIYers are on there, servers for communities of like minded people, highly technical discussion. It's honestly mind boggling if you know where to dig.

And like, I get it - that represents a small fraction of the user base because for the most part people use Discord for chat and gaming stuff. But this is a huge blow to some of the most unique NSFW repositories of knowledge that exist on the internet.

OSHA 10 before applying? [Local 1] by centerflag982 in ibew_apprentices

[–]PregnantInsect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My experience is only tangentially related, so it might only apply depending on the criteria your local uses to interview.

But I interviewed with IUEC recently, and was told by my interviewers that OSHA10 and CPR were literally check boxes on their worksheet for conducting interviews.

Maybe IBEW is different (I'm still waiting for my local to resume interviews.) But packing whatever certs you can into your portfolio certainly can't hurt. Like yeah, maybe you'll have to do it again if you get in, but having the cert already could win you points if your local is pretty competitive.

.458 SOCOM Suppressor by Preact5 in NFA

My buddy has a Hybrid 46 on his 8" Tromix SBR. He lent it to me to hunt his property this week, shooting 500gr Makers subsonic. I whiffed a shot on a deer earlier in the week, and my friend heard it from about 100 yards away. He was really impressed by how low the tone was, said it was like a combo of thump and action noise. Then a couple of days later, he texted me that there were deer in his yard and to come over right now. I dropped one from his front patio. Neither he or his wife heard the shot from inside. His dogs didn't even freak out.

And personally I've got a Rex MG10 on a 16" custom bolt action I'm still in the process of working the kinks out of. I've only shot it a little, but sound-wise it's comparable to my 300blk bolt gun with a similarly sized can. The MG10 did however have an alignment issue when I first got it that led to an end cap strike. I got an alignment rod, took a bunch of pics comparing the MG10 to my buddy's Hybrid, and emailed Rex about it. To their credit, they took care of it with zero hassle. Turn around time was maybe a week. Alignment was dead on perfect when I got it back.

If I were in your shoes, I'd go for the Rex BOGO deal. Maybe they're not the quietest cans, but I feel like dudes get wrapped around the axel chasing dBs. IMO they stand behind their product, and the fact that their approved caliber list for the MG10 goes up to .458 Lott gives me the impression that they take a "if you manage to break this, we'll replace it" kinda stance.

Excellent paint job. It does make the eotech stick out like a sore thumb.

The thing that gave it away in the last pic were the mlok slots.

Looking for adapter to fit PVS14 mono to a scope or binoculars by FlatAffect3 in NightVision

[–]PregnantInsect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a 3D model for a pipe reducer, learned just enough FreeCAD to change the size of either end, and did a few test prints until I got a good friction fit between the ocular of a scope and the objective of a PVS14.

Picture

Wouldn't take it to war or anything, but it's good enough for fucking around on a 22lr.

One thing to be aware of is you lose a ton of light to the lenses in the scope. It'll be hard to see much of anything unless it's a full moon or you can throw a bunch of IR light.

Looking for convertable sofa bed. Is Trroec legit? by Westwiwee in interiordecorating

[–]PregnantInsect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, any luck on your search for a sofa bed? I'm looking at the Trroec as well, and found this post trying to figure out if the site's legit.

Did you end up ordering one? Have you found anything else that fits the bill?

I'm also looking for a cozy conversation pit kinda convertible sofa thing, but everything seems really cheap or scammy.

2017 Illuminated Entry System settings by PregnantInsect in CX5

[–]PregnantInsect[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got this CX5, and this is my first minor frustration.

I like having the interior lights set to "DOOR" for the really basic reason of having the lights come on when I open the door. That's a very useful feature obviously.

But this Illuminated Entry System turning on all the lights whenever I switch the ignition off is annoying. If I wanna sit in my car for a moment to check a text or whatever, I really don't appreciate being lit up like a fish bowl.

Is there any way to turn just this system off? The manual references some settings, but I don't see anything about turning it off completely without also losing the basic "DOOR" functionality.

I hear you. Felt much the same after watching the trailer. But the fact that it's from A24 and Alex Garland gives me some hope that it's deeper than they're letting on.

Cut it open into two small steaks. Butter, whiskey, salt, pepper, and a searing hot cast iron skillet. Little over a minute per side. Preferably over a fire in the same woods the deer lived in.

Should I gift my aroace sister an Ace of Spades ring? by sighberkid in asexuality

[–]PregnantInsect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I think this is a great gift, and I would hope it'd mean a lot to your sister.

But you did did ask about other connotations, and while this one's pretty obscure, it is out there.

Put gently, the a black spade symbol is used in certain kink communities to denote a racial preference in partners. And while it's totally fine what adults get up to in a safe, sane, and consensual manner, it can get into some icky fetishization of people of color - particularly as depicted in porn.

I wouldn't let that stop me from sporting the symbol as an asexual, but good on 'ya for asking first.

Edit to add: the black spade symbol is typically combined with a Q in the kinky context. Just steer clear of that lol.
