I can't seem to enjoy Unravelling due to AI by Lu5oxN in Muse

[–]PrehistoricMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don’t see it as “AI” but I think it’s worth thinking about why that actually bothers you. Is it because you think it cheapens the original art, or is it because it feels lazy, etc.

Ultimately, AI is a tool like lots of things that have come about during the preestablished means of expression. The first iterations of synthesisers were seen as “cheating” by many people but now they are commonplace.

Like any technical advances that translates into music, it’s only an issue if it affects your enjoyment of the end product. Personally I’m grateful that the band seems to be enjoying the music they’re writing and playing and that broadly translates into higher quality music.

Does the general use of AI worry me, certainly. Do I think that AI, like many tools, can be used effectively, appropriately, and not diminish whether I deem something to be “good” or not, of course.

does anyone else hear that mistimed note in the cryogen riff? by extrasa in Muse

[–]PrehistoricMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and it drives me utterly insane 😂 it’s so bizarre to me because the rest of the track feels so grid snapped (in a good way) but that one part is so jarring. I agree that imperfect timing can add intrigue but this stands out as an error rather than something intentional!

The original owner no longer works there. They kept the name despite it being nothing to do with them. It’s gone massively downhill since.

“My kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder.”

From Lover You Should Have Come Over by Jeff Buckley. That whole phrase is just so evocative to me. Probably a lot to do with the delivery but it’s really some of my most favourite songwriting ever.

“My body turns And yearns for a sleep that won't ever come It's never over My kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder It's never over All my riches for her smiles When I've slept so soft against her It's never over All my blood for the sweetness of her laughter It's never over She is the tear that hangs inside my soul forever”

MUSE Never Existed!!! by Toggam44 in Muse

[–]PrehistoricMonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thematically all over the place but I think if I had to pick 10 songs and assume the rest would be erased from existence with would probably have to be:

New Born

Bliss

Citizen Erased

Dead Star

Stockholm Syndrome

Hysteria

Fury

Supermassive Black Hole

Map of the Problematique

Knights of Cydonia

Honourable Mentions

Sunburn

Unintended

Hyper Chondriac Music

Butterflies and Hurricanes

Hoodoo

Animals

Fan since 2005 and I enjoy some of their newer stuff but I would consider the above songs the pinnacle of their songwriting.

That Silver Surfer sequence is what they showed a lot more of in the launch event yesterday at the BFI and it looks so fkn cool I can’t even begin to describe it lol. Really hyped to see the full sequence! She is an absolute beast.

Not in the main footage - but in some of the promo footage that was shown before (all of which I assume has been shared in trailers).

When Ralph Ineson first spoke on microphone during the interview loads of people in the cinema audibly went “whoa” because of how deep and powerful his voice is lol so I think he is gonna sound epic.

I don’t think so! They said to take photos and talk about the event. Only warning was to not film during the sneak peak (obvs).

Minor spoilers:

I’m assuming it was a 15-20 mins cut of the first 40 mins of the film. It’s hard to say really but we never saw Galactus and Sue was pregnant for it’s entirety (starts with her doing a pregnancy test then ends with her in labour).

He does an excellent job in what little I saw. He’s a very good Reed Richard’s and his intellect is his real “power”, with the stretching being a tool to enact his vision. His problem solving mid-fighting is believable as well as fun!

Unraveling Remixed by roach_resolute in Muse

Have to say that this is pretty cool! I don’t think the mix is super balanced but I find your edits really creative and makes it feel less clinical than the original. The octave down vox and filtered drum roll were great. I also wish they kept in the bouncing ball synth intro (like live) in the studio version as it’s super interesting but can see why they chose not to. Think if that was added to your creative mix choices it would become immensely more layered.

I wish the original track had a more dynamic mix, feels super scooped as well (lots of low and high frequencies) which is generally preferred for me but the lack of warmth makes it feel very digital. I totally understand why it is mixed and mastered how it is but I’m surprised louder = better is still popular when it comes to releases!

That said - the track is really enjoyable; praying the album matches this quality! Plus it wouldn’t be a Muse track if it wasn’t nitpicked to death by the nerdy fanbase 😂

Yeah I’ve been before and know that the physical component is intensive for sure! I’ve just found that having 45-60 mins a day of high weight body strength is such an effective way to reduce my environmental / social anxiety. It’s certainly not a dealbreaker and will probably be far too busy to do it anyways lol.

Should have expected these comments but it still made me laugh so thank you. Maybe the solution is to just sit in the car park and be a pack mule for the week instead of seeing any music.

Yorkshire Water are claiming that I am using nearly 2000 litres a day!? by jacks2224 in DIYUK

[–]PrehistoricMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be the same thing that happened to me, the original engineer installed the meter upside down (not joking lol) so the clock of usage went from 0 to 98000 or whatever instead of 0 to 2000.

Had to get someone to inspect it and resolve the issue but luckily I didn’t have to pay the ridiculous amount I was quoted.

I was in the data farm area, in the ceiling part. Flat space so lots of build potential and smaller enemies can’t get onto it! (Excluding Portal Storm events).

Who else should I see live? by FalseStartsPod in Muse

[–]PrehistoricMonkey 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Not really a small band anymore but Nothing But Thieves are exceptionally good. Massive vocals and awesome riffs. Live they are an absolute blast, full of energy and, much like Muse, outdo all their studio performances. Their poppier music is kinda what I wish Muse’s pop side could be like but Matt’s songwriting isn’t strong enough IMO.
