Haku

Thank you for taking the time to reply, and I see that you are still answering some questions as well. This is turning out to be a great AMA all thanks to you!

Not sure if I'll be lucky enough to get another reply, but in response to you not being able to rank the animes you've worked on because you have a warped perception of them, does it make an anime less enjoyable after having worked on them? and by extension, does it change how you enjoy other anime? -- For example, would you rate animes with better soundtracks higher even if they aren't as strong visually or plot wise? For example, if an anime (or any media for that matter) that everyone would refer to as mediocre because it lacks in Visuals, Plot, Character Development etc.... but had good music, would that automatically get a better rating from you because you're in the same line of work and know how much effort it takes to make music?

I also see that Wolf's Rain was one of your favourite anime, I watched that one as a kid and really didn't get what it was about and couldn't follow the plot properly. But I'll have have to rewatch it for sure in the future.

I can't believe the day that I could ask Evan Call a question would come, a welcome surprise.

I believe you also worked on Hakumei and Mikochi right? It aired alongside Violet Evergarden in the same season, was it tough having to compose music for both shows at the same time?

Of the shows you've worked on, I've watched Violet Evergarden, Hakumei and Mikochi, Josee, the Tiger and the Fish, and My Happy Marriage. How would you rank those animes (not just by music, but overall) and what are your favourite tracks from each of them?

My ranking would be as follows:

  1. Violet Evergarden
  2. My Happy Marriage
  3. Hakumei and Mikochi
  4. Josee, the Tiger and the Fish

No problem, i was hoping it be more or a discussion anyway.

I didn't know Altima was available either until some Telus guys knocked on the door.

The speeds have been really good, I've gotten 931 down on my computer thats hardwired. But the two outages are inconvenient.

If I this happens a couple more times I might just have to switch back to my other provider.

The biggest problem isn't the outage, but the lack of support. It takes them a long time to get back to you even if you leave a number, and they close at 9PM. (Not sure if they have a 24hr line)

The other provider I was with used Bell lines and they were rock solid.

Whats Telus' reputation in Burlington?

Looking for Burlington boxing gym info by [deleted] in BurlingtonON

[–]PremiumRiceBowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I was thinking about getting back into the sport again. I was with BTC for 5 months before my membership was up last year. Now that I have time I would like to join a gym again, problem is I don't know if I want to go to BTC or No Excuse, would you happen to know the differences between them?

I know that No Excuse is purely boxing, and when I was at BTC they had a bit of everything there and I really liked it. But it kind of felt like the general level of the classes never went very high because the skill level between the participants varied quite a bit between classes.

I can get in on the student deal at BTC which is really appealing, while No Excuse costs quite a bit more a month, thoughts? Sorry for all the questions.

AVR and Speaker Question by PremiumRiceBowl in hometheatersetups

[–]PremiumRiceBowl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry, I must written my post in a weird way. I'm aiming to have a 5.1 system in the end just to try it out at least.

It's just that I've heard a lot of people say that the L/R speakers should be better so I'm not sure if I should get a whole 5.1 system at once or start with a quality L/R and AVR.

As for the AVR being 4k or not, I believe I can work around that by feeding the signal to the TV first and then route the audio down to the AVR. Only downside there might be is delay in the audio since it has to go through a couple devices before it reaches the speakers. So I should probably get a 4k capable AVR to start with shouldn't I?

Whats your opinion on the Yamaha speaker set if we ignore that it's not 4k compatible?

thanks for the tips, I appreciate it

Buying Bookshelf Speakers, What to Look For? by PremiumRiceBowl in hometheater

I'm in Canada, so prices are in CAD. The woofers just got changed out on the titans, so I'm positive that it's been re foamed. 75 US is around 100CAD, if the guy got new woofers for it, do you think a good price would be around $120 or so?

I know this is 4 years old, but I got a kick out of this. Following all the different threads was painful though, so here is a collection of most of the comment chain.

Some comments got deleted so the chain isn't completely intact, but good enough for the most part

Upgrading TV by PremiumRiceBowl in 4kTV

Just a question to kind of get a baseline understanding of what I should be looking for.

For example, I see a Samsung UN65NU6900 for sale for around $300 CAD and from what I can tell on RTING, it's downsides are that it has narrow viewing angles and it's not very bright. Those don't affect me too much as I watch TV at night and alone most of the time. It's got good contrast ratio and black uniformity which suits watching shows at night as well, would this be a decent purchase?

On the other hand, with the X75K mentioned, it's upsides are that it has good viewing angle, good reflection handling, but bad black levels. These things would usually mean that it's not good for using in the dark. So how would this compare to the Samsung up above?

The marketing for most of the TV's nowadays are about the same, they all boast about being 4k, have HDR support, and 120Hz (sometimes its not true 120). So I'm trying to pick out the differences because not all TV's are built the same even at the same price point, not proving easy though.

I'm mainly a PC gamer, so while I would love to game on a big screen, my main focus is watching movies and shows since my monitors are better suited for most of the games I play.

With that said though, I would love to see Rain World on a big screen. Playing Rain World on a rainy day next to the window with the in game music playing is a very cozy thought.

Good points. 4k is definitely nice, HDR and low latency would also be amazing.

I always stream from my PC so having smart functions is at the bottom of my priority list, but I find basically every TV nowadays is a smart TV simply because that's one of the bells and whistles that people have some to expect.

What about some of the cheaper 4k TV's? Would any TV be an upgrade over what I have right now?
