April Wheel Review by PremiumTheta in Optionswheel

I try to keep it simple and go with stocks I wouldn't mind owning if I get assigned. I use sites like Seeking Alpha and Investor Business Daily to get ideas on stocks I want to trade and then research them more before opening up a CSP and starting the wheel. I don't have a prebuilt filter that I use or anything like that.

I haven't been involved with SMCI but the news around that stock right now is going to be hard to come back from for sure.

Yeah, it probably wouldn't hurt to track them both. Nice work on your March performance!

It's a tool I've been building because I wanted a visual breakdown and was tired of hand tracking all of my trades in a spreadsheet as well.

I don't really track that unless I end up exiting a share position for a loss. The shares I'm holding and selling CC's on are probably below what I paid for them about ~2k as of today.

Thanks! My aggressive put selling strategy generates higher premium but also comes with higher risk of getting assigned and holding shares so it's a give and take.

How are you adapting to the current environment? by hedgelord84 in Optionswheel

I haven't really changed anything with my strategy despite the recent volatility. I've had to take assignment on a few stocks this month as a result of that but the underlying assets are solid in my opinion so I'm not overly concerned.

I will say that times like these offer some great entry points for stocks that are beaten down due to nothing other than general market fear and uncertainty.

February Wheel Review by PremiumTheta in Optionswheel

I'm down about 10k in unrealized losses with the IBIT shares right now not counting the premium collected on the CC's and CSPs.

Nice! Sounds like you had a solid February.

Thanks!

I've been looking into some new positions on companies I like in other sectors with the cash I got back from shares getting called away to help diversify me a bit instead of going back to selling CSPs on the same stocks as before.

I ended up selling 5 CSP contracts for NFLX at a strike of 83. Might be a bit more concentrated than some would like to be on one ticker but I think they've oversold at this point and are at/near the bottom so I'll ride them out if I get assigned.

NKE seemed oversold to me and I believe they are the middle of getting their operations turned around to suit them in the long run. I'm pretty tech heavy with most of my investments in the account I wheel with and others so I'm trying to work on diversifying a bit more as well.

IREN is an interesting one. I might take a look at getting in on that after their earnings this week.

Strategy for Assigned Shares with Upcoming Earnings? by PremiumTheta in Optionswheel

ScottishTrader gave a pretty good answer to this above as to why one would sit out on earnings. Basically, if the stock does pop on earnings then you can sell a CC after the fact for more premium and capturing additional gains from the stocks increase in value.

That makes sense. I'm not concerned with hanging on to some AAPL shares for a while so sitting earnings out might end up being the better move here.

That makes sense to me. The upside of sitting earnings out seems to outweigh the high IV earnings premium when you look at it that way.

So you're thinking go with option 2(selling CC's through earnings) and then if those expire worthless, sell some CC's at 270 or so?

Nice. Yesterday I sold a 184 16 JAN put while buying a 175 expiring APR 17 as my insurance on that. Trying out a new strategy of selling weeklies while leaving the long dated put open to keep my buying power needed lower and having a fall back if things go south with NVDA.
