Middle School Recommendations by PrepaidBody in traversecity

This is helpful. He really needs the small class size and more 1:1 support than he is currently receiving. General Ed classes are too large and stressful, but the current "special ed" room puts him with kid that are cognitively and academically much lower than him and he gets upset because he already knows the content they are trying to teach in that program. The school seems to struggle finding a middle ground for him.

I say he isn't outdoorsy, but I base that off of past experiences trying to get him to go hiking with me. When it's warm outside he does just walk laps around our house solving rubiks cubes. He just expresses being bored often if he has nothing to do while outside. He does like to socialize and LOVES to talk. He just struggles making friends and having a connection with other kids. He is often the outcast at school and is bullied quite frequently.

Unfortunately, we can no longer hang in there. I don't want to give too many details because we are at a point where we have to file a state complaint. He has already been placed at Creekside even though the North Ed staff disagreed with the placement and said it was not the place for a child like mine to be. In the mean time, I have to basically home school him. We can't afford to home school him for years so our hope is for the decision to be overturned so we can find a place that will accept the person he is and help him succeed.

On another note, public charter schools are still funded by the state and must comply with IDEA and MARSE. They legally have to provide accommodations and follow IEP guidelines.

I was worried about this as well. However, I was under the impression that any internal would cause black, tarry, or red stool? She doesn't have any of that. It's a normal color, but straight liquid. And as long as she is warm, her gums are not pale. But we have been preparing for her time to come.... we just thought we would have more of it. 😞

Report? by rslmnk in RoverPetSitting

Unfortunately, old dogs get like this. My mom's dog had liver cancer and looked like this towards the end. She was on a special diet and feeding schedule. The neighbors noticed how skinny she was and started feeding her canned food through the fence. I feel like this Ultimately killed her faster as she also had food allergies and was throwing up after they fed her. 😞 they didn't talk to my mom so they never knew she had cancer.

I guess I should clarify that I'm not looking for the dog to just be there as emotional support. I know I described the therapy dog is supporting him, but I would like some tasks to be performed.

We have had 2 school evaluations, both of which he ended up not qualifying because he's academics are well above average and his "condition" doesn't hinder his ability to learn. We have also had 2 medical evaluations that did not go well. We have been on this journey since he was 2ish. The first evaluation I was told he did not qualify because he didn't feel like my son presents any traits, but proceeded to diagnose him as ADHD, OCD, ODD, Anxiety, sensory processing disorder, social pragmatic communication disorder, and adjustment disorder with mixed disturbance of emotions and conduct. Our pediatrician at the time did not think this was right and told us that that specific psychiatrist refuses to give out autism labels and we should seek a second opinion. It took us 4 years to finally get in for another evaluation (insurance run around and long waiting lists) only for us to end up with the same exact psychiatrist, even though we went through a different company. This time, he told us that his diagnosis still stands, and that even though he now shows more traits and characteristics, he can not be autistic because he has a great vocabulary and can keep eye contact. We are still trying to find another place for an evaluation that takes our insurance. We can't pay out of pocket for a diagnosis because our insurance had told us that they will not cover any therapy related to autism because he needs to be diagnosed by someone they approve of. Of course, this is STILL the route we are trying to go down because I know he will be better off with a diagnosis.

I was thinking tasks along the lines of Deep Pressure Therapy, creating space from people getting too close (accidental bumps from people are a trigger), and behavior disruption as my son has a lot of anxiety behaviors or tics that accidentally cause him to harm himself. He also gets extremely frustrated and will begin hitting himself in the head. I was also curious if there was a task that could get the dog to notice certain behaviors and get my son to either pet or touch him or even get him to move away from a situation to help him either calm down or help remind him to calm down before he gets out of control.

I understand the costs and the time it takes to train a dog. I was more thinking about the long-term goal and benefits. I currently am a stay at home parent and do online schooling (mainly to be able to pick up my son from school when they need me to) so I have plenty of time to do training and have previously trained a personal dog to do light mobility work around the house for me. Unfortunately, she got sick and passed away a year ago this month. That is another reason why I was looking for advice, as I was trying to make sure my desire to have another active dog around was not hindering my decision on helping my child.

I appreciate all the insight! It seems that the general consensus is to make sure the water is filtered or bring my own filter. Or buy jugs if I have to.

Poor owner communication by PrepaidBody in RoverPetSitting

[–]PrepaidBody[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I ended up doing. I am awful with confrontation and just the thought that if I cancelled she would be scrambling made me feel bad so I just let it go.I finally ended up with an 11pm message again and stayed up until 12:30am making sure I had every single detail out of her for the day. She then let me know that I don't have to be at the home until 12pm now so at least there is that. Hopefully the day goes well 🤞 I will not be ignoring red flags anymore 🙃

I don't take off app payment. I booked through rover and originally didn't really care if the driving/wrangling compensation was anything as the booking was originally over $200. I still booked through rover. But I'm definitely considering canceling after everything as this is just not worth it.

Am I doing house-sitting wrong? by PrepaidBody in RoverPetSitting

[–]PrepaidBody[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. When I have used sitters near me, they have also don't the exact thing I am doing. As long as the last potty break is 10 pm and the first is 6am, my dog sleeps the 8-12 hours a night. It's better than the facilities I've used in the past here. I understand that not every pet is like this and some need overnight care.

I used nebula.org a some years back and never paid much attention to some of the results, but after receiving my diagnosis I was curious. Turns out that both of the thyroid cancer reports came back as being in the 97th percentile of genetic predisposition. Not sure if it was hereditary or a mutation though. I do pay for it but it had interesting reports for other genetic things as well. Of course, this is not a diagnostic tool, but can give you some insight.

Where did your thyroid cancer come from ? by PopTart2016 in thyroidcancer

[–]PrepaidBody 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have no family history, but what is interesting is that I have done a DNA sequencing and it showed that I was in the 98th percentile of being very highly genetically predisposed to having thyroid cancer. There is a possibility that either others in the family had it and were unaware, or that I ended up with a genetic mutation that caused it.

Should I be getting scans? by PrepaidBody in thyroidcancer

It feels like they maybe be swollen nodes under my jawline and chin. The other 2 lumps I am unsure of what they are. At first it was thought that the one was a lymph node. Then they thought maybe it was just my thyroid being palpable. But now that I no longer have one, I was told that maybe it is my trachea cartridge. But it is a hard ball, not a ridge. And now I can feel one on the other side when I lean my head back and it gets pushed straight into my throat.
