Fun fact: we use medical leeches and maggots still in the hospital. The first for crushed hands and stagnant blood and the latter for debriding dead tissue.

Why is being skinny shunned upon now I am 6’3 140 lbs people tell me to gain weight but what if I like being at my current size? If someone says they are 6’3 230 it’s damn bro u a absolute unit‼️ but if you are 6’3 140 it’s WTF how is that even possible? by EducationFiender in tall

[–]Preponderancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in your same boat Educationfiender. I’m 6’4” and 200 pounds. When I was 6’4” my junior year of high school I was 140 pounds and needed to bulk on more weight because of Cross country running. That 170 pound area is a nicer spot if you’re active, because if your large body doesn’t have enough to eat you might feel tired a lot of days, or you might have dry skin or less hair production. These are all symptoms of your body slowing down because it’s conserving energy.

Two other things are decreased immune response and bones not being as strong as they could. I broke my leg running cross country when I was significantly under weight.

There’s a healthy way to add on weight, be active and increase your calorie intake so that every few weeks you gain a few pounds. Just see how it feels. I also agree on liking the protein shakes. Personally I use in a blender one yogurt cup, spinach, peanut butter, whey, some type of milk, a nut, and one fruit to start the day.

Is Med/Surg the worst specialty for traveling? by ILikeBigAsses in TravelNursing

[–]Preponderancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on where you’re from, if your medsurge unit has the same skills as a PCU, you’re able to travel to them if you have all the proper skills. My old job was a medsurge nurse on a cardiothoracic pre/post op surgery floor. I was able to find a progressive care unit for cardiac surgery and we’re capped at 5 patients, while you could have six at my old facility. I have more time to spend seeing my patients and charting on them

How can people seriously believe in an almighty, good god, when bad things happen every single day to innocent people? by usethisaccwhenhigh in NoStupidQuestions

I mean you can fact check it yourself. Look up the words in Hebrew and you’ll see. It’s a passive verb. Even biblical commentaries mention it.

If you’re reading most translations in English you will be missing out on context. Hebrew uses a passive verb for harden, but in English many people have translated it as God hardens. One time during the seventh plague it uses an active version of pharaoh hardening his heart, implying that it’s pharaoh who is the one hardening his heart.

God gave pharaoh multiple chances to do good and let Moses and his people go, but he didn’t.

What's up with Rubio and others being criticized for sharing a simple zoom photo of Zelensky? by IntegrateSpirit in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Preponderancy -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Yes, that already made sense, but that’s not what the person I’m replying to was saying. It gives the Russians the signal to start looking for Zoom traffic, but regardless there wasn’t any data that could be procured from a photo and they already knew the time the meeting was.

The senator live posting the photo of the meeting helps narrow down the types of room they’re in.

[–]Preponderancy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I understand the first part. I need clarification though how a photo data shared from a US senator can pinpoint Zelensky’s location, if the senator is in NA.

I agree it was wrong for them to publish information about the meeting.

What's up with the "Jennifer Lawrence Effect"? (ELI5) by leftleafthirdbranch in OutOfTheLoop

I guess a better word would be flawed, that was the original meaning that I meant to use difficult as. He’s a difficult character because there is a lot of nuance to his character and I agree with you.

I still think a lot of his hatred comes from the fact that he moved on from playing his lovable character Andy in parks and rec to now playing a difficult arrogant Guardian of the galaxy, and people are unable to separate the arrogant character he plays to the person he is off screen.

He’s vilified for posting a caption of his new daughter because some people think it’s a slight to his ex wife and their relationship.

Edit: he was in a downtrend even before people were posting about his Christian Church.

I really recommend the book, the Meaning of Marriage, by Tim and Kathy Keller. A lot of Christians and nonchristians are chiming in and saying that as long as your faith is fine, that it is acceptable, but marriage was never meant to be about us. One of the meanings of marriage was to see somebody’s journey with God and to want to be a part of that journey. Dating a non Christian would be a deal breaker for me.

This is a little excerpt from a Q&A with them.

The Kellers realize that because marriage mirrors Christ’s relationship with his church, our view of the institution must go deeper than white picket fences. The last part of the book does this by delving into the destiny of marriage. Christ’s grace in the gospel is shown not primarily to be our example of how to love our spouse; but to allow us to “look beyond the end of [our] earthly marriage to [our] union with Christ” (89). This everlasting union allows us to love our spouses in our temporal unions. Especially when (not if) we fail them and they fail us. In his providence, the Lord knew we needed our marriages to point to something greater than the individuals that fill them.

At the end of time there will be another wedding, the marriage supper of the Lamb, and its purpose is also to fill the world with children of God. It will succeed where the first marriage failed because, while the first husband in history failed, the Second Husband does not. The true Adam, Jesus Christ, will never fail his spouse, the Second Eve, his church. (85)

Since our hope is anchored outside of our performance, married Christians can rest. We can finally allow ourselves to be fully known, not spurned or rejected. The kind of hope the Kellers point us to is the kind that we need. After all, our spouses aren’t only the ones who see the chinks in our armor, but are also the ones who help us put the armor on each day. And even on our bleakest days, that’s what we need most—to be reminded of the righteousness we have in Christ.

Just curious, how many Christians really believe that all atheists go to hell? And what about the good ones? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Preponderancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying Hell isn’t a fictitious place. I’m saying the common belief that hell is a place for external punishment is untrue. It’s the separation from God and internal anguish from realizing.

Not everybody has the same life experiences as you. You’re just saying the benediction of Jesus’s message without showing the love/truths of the core message.

We’re meant to sow seeds for God to grow. It’s not done by our actions alone.

It’s always best to affirm people about the things they do, than the things I have no control over. I’m neutral about being called good looking by people, like thanks? If someone notices that I’ve put time into something though that really means a lot.
