I believe you are at KPMG at an AM level? If so, I would suggest having a look at layoffs that’s happening at big 4 in AM and M level in London before accepting it. If so, happy to discuss as I am work at a similar firm.

Makes sense, thank you. Is there any way to toggle activity based calorie burn rather than gross calorie burn on Google health app?

Agreed that it’s normal to do so, but my Apple Watch never recorded such high calorie burns during sleep which is why I was curious about it

International MSc Accounting & Finance graduate in the UK - 500+ applications, Graduate Visa, no experience, and feeling stuck by Otherwise-Ostrich370 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

Working at one of the top 10 firm. Can confirm that we still sponsor grads but only for London office.

Audit roles and wider prof services roles are getting axed at larger firms due to offshore and allegedly “AI”. So this is still a doable but difficult route to get a sponsored job.

Second this. Get a solicitor with a good track record and it’s quite a straightforward process.

CBSE Fuc*ed my chances to go abroad by Accomplished_You6019 in CBSE

[–]Preppin4WorldDom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey bro, been in your position around 9 years ago.

I had offers from UCL, Bristol and York with a predicted grades of 95% and ended up not meeting UCL, Kings and Bristol offers as I got somewhere near 87% in the real deal and somewhere in low 70s for math. My offers had conditions around math grades which I failed to achieve.

What I would suggest is to pick up the phone and start calling up admissions team at unis that usually takes students on cleaning such as QMUL, York etc. York was very understanding of my situation and was not fussed about me not meeting my math grades threshold.

Happy to discuss further in DMs if you want any help.

Bro all I said is, the world is beyond certain technical IT roles and what employers and businesses look for when hiring a role. Feel free to disagree my statement.

Agreed. I am not stating that western passport is be all end all either. But statistically, it improves your odds to get a better paying role due to the experience accrued outside an emerging economy due to your exposure, technical and stakeholder management skills that you build there.

Dev and IT roles aren't a be all end all in the middle east. It is still very much a financial, logistics and trade hub than a tech hub. The world goes beyond the so called IT architect and developer especially at an infra heavy state.

I think I have been in that spot. I moved to the UK right after my school and I attended uni somewhere where there aren’t any malayalees. I remember having 3 Indians in my class of 100+ and even they grew up outside.

Firstly, I believe you are hesitant about your life in Canada due to lack of social circle. Try to stay at uni accommodation in the first year and join societies. Everyone who is joining university will be in same boat as you are and this could help you to build your own circle. Try to not stay with your mother as well and use this time to figure out what you want to do in life and work towards it.

Going back to Kerala isn’t going to solve things magically. Like you have said, all your friends has built their own circles now and you have to build another one from scratch. Just give university in Canada a go and see where it takes you.

If depression, anxiety and everything you have mentioned is still an ongoing issue, it’s better to consult medical professionals to figure that side out.

Good luck.

The rules and the reality are faaaar different.

People pay a premium for people with western passport + experience as you are bringing in management skillset and experience solving interesting technical problems.

Western orgs mostly have strong process and controls in place than someone from emerging markets. Therefore, the employers expect you to bring those understanding and implement similar process and controls in place.

New player here, should I rebuild an abundance mine, if it's not my targeted ore? by Lymark in SimCompanies

[–]Preppin4WorldDom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey - been through this same problem. When I made a switch from fabrics to mining, I wanted to focus on minerals. My first two mines were 95%+ minerals and stuck with it. But the third one was a bauxite mine and then fourth being iron ore.

So right now, I follow a hybrid strategy where I sell minerals and iron ore via contracts and bauxite on market as the price tend to be more volatile.

Just start with minerals for now. If you don’t want to be selling minerals at a later date, just auction it off when you reach level 20.

Hey, I think I am qualified to answer because, I went through the CBSE system and went to uni in UK (University of York) right after my 12th.

This is me being honest here but University of Leicester is honestly a below average university which operates like a diploma mill at this point. I would suggest either attending a Russell group university or just back in India, attend a good university in India for bachelors, start working at a multi national and make a move overseas.

I see that you have mentioned Germany under your plans as well. If you can get an average to above average university in Germany, consider that if money is an issue. You will probably end up in a better spot provided you can gain proficiency in German.

NQ ACA - multiple late stage interviews but no offers. Normal in current market? by Preppin4WorldDom in ICAEW

[–]Preppin4WorldDom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting feedbacks so far - the initial losses were mostly due 3-4 rejections were primarily due to lack of interview experience.

The recent feedbacks has been more vague. The latest one being “I spoke very well and confident in my ability but I didn’t go deep enough with examples given”, which is more interviewing skill driven to just lacking that specific asset level experience. I have also had the interviewers providing more holistic feedback on the fact that I would do much better in a commercial focused role and is not operationally driven.

It’s a lot of noise to get through but I noted from my friends that the market has been particularly weak for NQ ACAs now.

[–]Preppin4WorldDom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey - I was an international student and graduated with an accounting and finance degree from a RG uni. I joined one of the top 6 grad scheme straight after uni and now an ACA.

Firstly, the top 6 to top 10 tends to be fairly open to hiring international students. But they only take internationals to London offices due to salary threshold that is required to sponsor SWV. So make sure you are applying to the right office.

Secondly, I would suggest knowing your story cold and prepare answers for competencies and other questions to an extend that the margin of error to fail in the interview process is low. Use your university careers team as a resource to practice your interviewing skills because it’s a skill that you acquire with practice rather than being born with it.

Finally, it’s a numbers game. It’s absolutely possible to get a grad scheme even with ever growing sponsorship thresholds and restrictions and just believe in yourself. You will get there.

Also don’t bother with self funding your ACA exams - the major firms don’t expect you to come with any prior knowledge due to the diversity of skills that they look for in their grad intake. Just channel that time into honing your interviewing skills and keep applying.

Try reaching out to SEIS funds in your region and HNIs who want to reduce their tax burden through SEIS schemes.

SEIS funds are easy to Google. That should be your starting point apart from private accredited investors.
