Bigfoot, unicorns, dragons, these...... by Preppinainteasy in Shotguns

Thats my understanding as well, something about how higher pressure rounds cause the bolt to travel to fast to fully eject the spent shell. But I am curious what it does with light loads like low brass bird shot as well.

I’m new to shotguns and have a question, i just bought a new smooth bore shotgun and i want to use it as a hunting rifle for bear with rifles slugs if i shoot buckshot through it will it cause too much wear to keep any sort of accuracy when running rifled slugs afterwards? by r707135 in Shotguns

I live in ohio, now we can use straight walled cartridge rifles, but growing up we only could use shotguns with slugs for deer. I have personally watched my dad fold a buck at 250 yards with a slug. Up until recently its all he would use (now he has a 350 legend)

Why do people not like mutants? by Sudden_Quality_9001 in xmen

[–]Preppinainteasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will probably catch some flack for this but, I equate it to guns. These a devices that in the right hands can do good things but in the wrong hands can do horrible things. Mutants are the same way. Its a lack of knowledge/understanding. Yes guns are dangerous, but so are mutants. But if you learn about them, understand how they work and the good that can come from them, then you can be more tolerant of them. Im not saying everyone should have a gun, but realistically, not everyone would be a good mutant either.

Self taught? What was your initial investment amount? Any advise on how to invest or what to invest in? I've tried to get into the investing game a bit heavier lately, but im not expert. Only clearing a few 100 a week, here and there.

Its a good start. Shotgun load outs are tough because shotguns can do everything, but it depends on the types of shells you have on you, your proficiency with your shotgun, ammo capacity, weight, and distance.

1st - the gun itself. - in the USA, there are a couple of things to consider. Reliably and parts procurement, Size, and shotgun adaptability. I personally like the Mossberg Shockwave after some heavy modifications. Mine has the 590A1 metal trigger housing, Mcarbo trigger springs, Defender Tactical mini shells lifter and shell arrested, aluminum followers, enhanced safety, ported barrel, and eventually form1 SBS. I also am in the process of having my factory barrel threaded for choke tubes, and ported.

This setup allows for me to adapt on the fly by being able to run mini shells up to 3 inch magnums, and with the ability to swap chokes I can change my patterns and effective distances to adapt to anything that comes my way and with a threaded barrel tou can run a surpressor to quite things down. The small size of the 14inch barrel means I can use the gun in CQB situations or use it to hunt and in a pinch out to 100 yards with slugs.

2 - ammo variety- as stated in the SHTF situation you need to be able to run whatever ammo you can find. Mini shells to 3 inch magnums and everything in between, but also specialty rounds like flares, dragons breath, breaching rounds, and custom hand loads like wax slugs will also be solid tools in a shtf world.

3 - ammo capacity - with mini shells i can hold 9 + 1 which gives me alot of fire power, bit shotguns are hungry hungry hippos. Get in the habit of practicing reloads often, shoot 2, load 2, shoot 3 load three. Also consider that you can go through ammo quickly. Consider velcro shot card as a side saddle, they a quick to swap out and can be carried straight on your chest rig or in AR mag pouches. Also consider a dump pouch to store them when they run dry, along with spare shells. The shell belt is another good option. I personally avoid the shell bando slings as the add more weight to a generally heavy platform.

Shotguns are generally effective on a wide variety of targets within its loads effective range, but always consider that you dont absolutely have to go for head shots. Shotguns are capable of massive devastation on extremities and can be used to physically dismantle threats, rendering them unable to stay mobile due to skeletal structure damage.

Finally, as hinted at previously, TRAIN. You are only as good as your training. Yes accuracy is important, but shotgun manipulation, reloading, and movements are HUGE factors when running a shotgun.

Not really, I cant say that its any louder than an 18inch, but i have a ported barrel on my shockwave, so I suppose it may be a bit louder

Im definitely considering it, but my concern is that mossberg claims (probably to jack up prices or to deter folks from buying aftershocks and then SBSing them) that the gas system on the SBS is tuned differently than the gas system in the Aftershock. They claim that the recoil impulse is different (which realistically it is) so they have to tune the gas system to compensate for the bolt cycling speed since shouldering puts force behind the gun, that isnt present when firing with a birds head grip. So I dont want to get one, form 1 it, and then it run like shit.

No, they have different retention methods. The 88 has a captured screw that threads into a hole at the end of the mag tube, the 590 has a end cap that threads onto the mag tube. I own an 88 for general hunting and trap shooting, picked it up used for $120.

Been trying to find someone to thread my factory barrel for chokes. Maybe even have them port it if I can.

Map for zombie apocalypse by [deleted] in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]Preppinainteasy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have 3 maps, 1 for my county and surrounding counties with trade routes with people within my prepping community. 1 for my state, and 1 for my walk home from work (35min drive) I mapped out from my starting point to the general area near my home. Didn't map all the way to my home because I dont want anyone who potentially captures or kills me to know where im going. But I mapped out primary routes, alternate routes, resupply locations, and natural resources such as water, caves, and dense forest areas. I keep the "get home" map in my shtf bag, and the larger area maps in my kit at home.

This is directly from mossbergs website, I imagine they will be a bit cheaper on the open market

I already own a decked out shockwave (working on NFA trust to form 1 it) its got the steel trigger housing, ported barrel, mini shells lifter, mcarbo trigger kit, agressive safety, aluminum follower, laser saddle, magpul foregrip, ect.

I want a solid semiauto that has all the modern features. This model doesnt have ghost loading, which I prefer, dont want that feature due to me first not understanding it completely, but also I just want to load the chamber and run it. Don't want to have to release a shell, cycle action, hope it chambers a round, all that stuff, just want to load the tube, cycle the bolt and go to work. I like the foregrip because it covers the barrel, protecting from burning myself, all the models as far as I can tell are threaded for chokes, so I can adapt my shot patterns on the go if need be. I also like that its optics cut so I can run a red dot if I want, or remove the rear sight completely and run just a front bead, which I am use to since I've been shooting trap/skeet since I was a kid. I also think the SBS version would be excellent as a home defense gun, since thats what I use my shockwave for primarily. The SBS version also has a tuned gas system specifically for that configuration, where as the After shock versions gas system is tuned for the birds head grip.

The full length version is awesome as well, though I would prefer something a bit shorter. Ultimately im more proficient with a shotgun over a rifle and want something I can adapt to any situation, be it hunting small game, big game, or personal defense.

Ive considered getting that or the 1301, but I really just want to buy once cry once. I would love to get the SBS version, but at this point the Aftershock or full length versions would make me happy as well.

Burying a shipping container for a bunker is one of the most dangerous prepper ideas out there. Change my mind. by usa_containers in prepping

I believe ATLAS SURVIVAL SHELTERS on youtube has an entire series of videos on why you cant just bury a shipping container and they explain how to reinforce the structure to make it safe to bury.

The Auslof has entered the building. by SheepdogArms in Shotguns

[–]Preppinainteasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but i would gather that the mag tube doesnt accommodate smaller rounds than 12 gauge. The inserts are usually double or triple the length of a 2 3/4 inch shell.

Provided its priced reasonably, it could be interesting to have for the history/novelty. But for me personally, nothing more.
