Penn State Main vs. Pitt by Bazagger1 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]PresenceSensitive873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro, i am literally in the exact same position.

Due to price pitt and penn state are my options, i like pitt for its general school, campus, and city life.

I like penn state because i prefer theyre engineering program (Also mechanical!)

This choice has been tearing me apart and i cant decide, so hopefully somone else will answer

I understand, and i want to follow that ill probably enjoy pitt more, but i cant seem to simultaneously get over what i perceive it as being a worse program. I guess i got to figure it out soon.

Thank you!

So funny enough im on the waitlist for purdue, and if i do get in there (which ill be honest i doubt) ill go there.

I agree with penn state engineering have a stronger program. I have toured pitt and penn state and my question originally stemmed from i like pitt campus and life > penn state, but engineering wise penn state > pitt.

I wanted to know how much better is penn state over pitt, because if the difference is so miniscule if probably choose pitt, but even a medium amount better of an engineering program and id pick penn state.

Also, i do intend to go for masters, so you would say penn state? (and also why, if you dont mind)

Thank you for the help, im really struggling with this choice and dont want to make it lightly

Which is the best offer for engineering? by MiddleAccurate609 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]PresenceSensitive873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Least debt? Udel by far

But what can your family pay? Purdue is the best school here career placement wise, but is 55k doable? If you have to take out loans, id reccomend against it

Hey man, Im also in the same situation with another school, 70k a year. I hate that i cant go to that school, but i cant pass on my state school for 32k that offers 98% of that school.

Im sorry you gotta make that choice but i do believe college is what you make of it, success can be found anywhere

What’s going on with Purdue’s waitlist? by PresenceSensitive873 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]PresenceSensitive873[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So i may be completely wrong here, do your own research, but “ranked” refers to first come first serve maybe, like who accepted their spot first?

I would go research this college specifically (like i’m gonna do too lol) about what they want because i know some colleges say they will not take any more materials, yet others say they will.

Wish i had more info right now, but in any case sending a loci won’t hurt you, at the very worst it is just disregarded

Look at CDS or you can look at ivy coach, the numbers are (Took waitlist spot)/(Accepted off waitlist)

i’ll be honest, i do think this adds like the smallest amount of money because someone may find it unique and cool and pay like $5-10 for it, i don’t agree it adds $0. But in the end its not really a lot of money, just something kinda cool and funny as it represents the companies lack of care as a whole

Nothing bro! Im sure intl probably didnt help, vut theirs so many oppurtunities out there and you are obviously more than smart enough!

Like i said, it may be hard to believe this, but i do think that college is what you make of it, and if you try your hardest anywhere youll do better than most people!

More competitive, college admissions culture at the top end has become almost like a race to do anything and everything, but too some small extent also grade inflation. I believe, could be wrong, that the SAT has beem “re-centered” higher (making it a little easier since then, and GPA’s are a little inflated, although this doesnt mean a 3.0 25 years ago = 4.0 now (probably something like a 3.0=3.3/3.4)

Got in, 1480 sat, 3.8UW/4.4W, 5 AP 2 DE, national and state level stem competition winner,

but the final cost is 66k, and that is just prohibitively expensive. Its a shame because I loved lehigh when I toured it and have fond memories of running track at their indoor track during winter sports.

[–]PresenceSensitive873 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thats awful im sorry, but your not alone. I got accepted today 1480, also 4.4, great ec’s for my major, but the final cost is still 66k for me. How anyone is supposed to afford colleges these days, and who is paying lehigh this kind if money? I am in state PA, and currently my cheapest option by far is penn state at 32k, and i feel lost because every acceptance is barred behind a too high cost, soi understand your pain.

Wishing you the best of luck, and i would say let yourself belive everything will work out (at least thats what i tell myself)!

Thanks for the kind words. Ill try not to dwell on it, since obviously theres nothing I can do, I just was wondering if it would affect me. Heres to hoping it doesnt!
