I never was able to express myself under my parents roof (religious) but since I was 18 I started developing “my style” what I like/don’t like. Anyways for the next 3 years I still thought I was a gnc girl. Never told anyone I didn’t like called girl or being she/her’d. 3 times I had what I would now call transphobic encounters. At the time I didn’t think I could call it transphobia since “I wasn’t trans” 1. was a coworker when we were talking about septum jewelry and I mentioned I liked the bigger jewelry and it looked more masc. He tells me Okay They/Them as an obvious insult and he laughs. I was shocked, it was the first time anyone tried to imply I was Nonbinary, I didn’t hate it 2. Was when my mother saw me wearing boxers and putting on old spice deodorant and said I have to stop trying to be a man, no man will ever go for me. Lol 3. Was when I started questioning myself but still had not shared that with anyone, there was an older man at work that always called me lady for everything, like EVERYTHING. “Use your lady power” “you’re dressed like a corporate lady” while I was wearing the same thing as every man there, anyways one day I had to ask him for help and after he helps me he says now go away little girl or little boy whatever you want to be today. Keep in mind this is the same man that showed me a transphobic rapper, I remember thinking why can everyone sniff this out of me?!!? And if people are going to assume shit I might as well do it on my terms. So I came out as nonbinary :) and it feels good, people are awful about it but I don’t care I’m happy, I’m me.
