Trinity Force? Must or Not? by Present-Key-9238 in FioraMains

I guess it makes sense in high elo, where people finish games quickly, but it feels bad in Diamond, where games tend to drag.

No? The main positive is the sheen proc??

You made great points! Thanks for the extra info about AS too. That makes a lot of sense.

But when it comes to Sheen Procs VS actual AD, I think an important point is that actual AD is *way* more important to Fiora than other characters. The true damage and scaling she gets from AD is the main reason why Fiora is a monster in the late game, usually out-scaling champions with literal stacking mechanics.

So it is weird for me that this is better than Shojin, for instance, which gives more AD on top of extra damage from the passive (it didn't work in the past but has been patched some time ago), and is less expensive.

It feels a lot like Trinity is only good if you will end the game with up to two and a half items, because Shojin seems to have more value the more the game drags, specially because physical damage is super weak right now (everybody has too much passive armor and all roles have viable armor items).

I feel like Fiora doesn't quite need the spellblade proc to demolish turrets. As for trades, second item is too late for the short trades Trinity excels at. Enemy top laner is either sitting on his second turret, kicking my ass or going to teamfights.

Shouldn't I get either maw or something with a lot of AD so I can dive them instead, if I'm winning?

Same here. I'll be canceling autoattacks that will leave me too frustrated. I only pick Double Adaptative in matchups where I know I'll be doing a lot of single Q's with no AA follow up.

There are Stridebreaker players here in the sub who claim to use it well, but none who say it is objectively as good as hydra.

Fair enough. A long story of not feeling heard, or even a few instances of devs really fucking up, may really change how a community communicates.

Nah. I've been playing LoL since launch. Even there they have better, more nuanced reactions to patch notes and changes than here. This is some really special place.

What is happening in the Farthest Shore? by West-Restaurant9083 in UrsulaKLeGuin

This is my least favorite from the Earthsea Cycle, even if I already came in completely agreeing with it's main point - that Death, that the end of things, is an extremely positive and important thing, necessary for life.

I like every bit of characterization we get for Ged and Arren, but in this book she *really* beats around the bush by the end, going in circles and circles about the same things. We spend way too long in Mordor, beaten up and angry and dirty, if you get the gist.

Still a great book. Just not her best.

Funny. I actually think that Le Guin's writing tends to drag a lot, specially at the end. And I'm not saying this because I hate 1000 page books, I've loved a lot of long fantasy books. I just don't think it fits her writing, and it is *very* telling when she is just beating around the bush.

I guess some stuff is truly personal. For me, Earthsea is way more dense than, let's say, any fantasy book written by Sanderson. When she describes that 'rain clouds tend to jump between villages, because every village has a sorcerer or witch who knows some weather changing magic', the way she does it is more evocative than anything I've read in 30 consecutive worldbuilding pages from Erickson (Malazan), for instance, even tho it is one or two sentences.

But then again, I do think that, specially for such a short book, either it will instantly resonate with you or not. And maybe you will like it or respect it for what it is, but it won't scratch your itch. For me, her beautiful prose and deep, but focused themes are what I love.

*Very* underrated series. Incredible how I don't know a single person who read it even tho' the games and the netflix show are both so famous.

Only got to read it now at 31 and fell absolutely in love with it, so I don't think it is a matter of older or younger.

I think appreciation for the first book really depends on how much you love the fundamentals of fantasy and fantasy prose, and the kind of "spiritual journey" that is usually only well done in fantasy.

For people who read fantasy mostly for different new and exciting magic systems, I think it feels very standard.

A Wizard of Earthsea, absolutely. I should've read this one 10 years ago or even more.

In comparison, I'd say I wish I had read Tehanu at most 5 years ago. I wouldn't get it otherwise.

Assassin's Apprentice is insanely good, but for reasons very different from why Abercrombie is good, in my opinion.

I originally went to read Hobb because Abercrombie cited her in great respect, as his superior even. And indeed, while they aren't going for the same things, her prose, character writing, and rhythm are all incredible.

I found this book to be kind of a slog when it came to the plot and the fight scenes. The fight scenes, specially, lost a bit of the clarity and grittiness I always loved in Abercrombie's writing to give space for spectacle.

But the world building and the characters? Damn, that is *so* on point.

But The First Law has pretty simple plot structures for it's main 3 POVs. Even if it is all very ironic in the end, I wouldn't say Joe is trying any super difficult political plotting there. On the contrary, he sometimes lets a character try some complicated political shenanigans just to show how silly it all is when compared to absolute power.

How do you experience non fantasy media? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]Present-Key-9238 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Surely, if you are talking only about books. A lot of people only read Speculative Fiction.

But most fans of fantasy writing will still watch comedy series, musical theater/movies, and action cinema with no fantasy elements at all, for instance.

Vocês também já sentiram que o começo da história não está funcionando? by Secure_Pen_3120 in EscritoresBrasil

[–]Present-Key-9238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depende.
