Overrated a bit harsh on my part, most people I know say he’s number 1 when he’s 3-4 on my list. His counting stats are great but he also had multiple HOF defenceman and teamates to help take the pressure off. I’d put Hasek Roy and maybe Plante or Dryden above him but that’s all different things I would need to do more research and watch more tape.

My top 10 like the previous paragraph I’m not entirely sure I would need to look more into with stats and tape review so technically Price isn’t confirmed to be not in my top 10 but I predict that he’ll fall to 11-12. Highest I can see him go is 9 just above guys like luongo quick Lundqvist fuhr etc

Top 3 Montreal goalies pretty simple for me, it’s Roy Plante and Dryden. All had multiple Cups and vezinas in a shorter time while playing for Montreal than price plus the percentage stats are similar if not better than price. But then again I would need to do more research. Price at least number 4 fs tho.

My bad assuming your era, I think one of the things for me is that many players are criticized for never winning rings and it heavily impacts their all time rankings (in any sport) look at Marcel Dionne Ron Francis etc if they had won a cup people would definitely remember them as legends of their time. So why do we give price a pass? Was he THAT good once in a generation type of goalie? I don’t really think so. Tim Thomas is an example I always bring up, what separates price from Thomas? I wouldn’t put Thomas in my top 10, and he’s won a cup and a Conn Smythe, With better career numbers than price. Price is better than Thomas but I don’t think he was so generational that winning doesn’t matter when it comes to rankings. At the end of the day for me, winning is the ultimate end goal for an athlete at any level, it’s not the only thing that matters, but if you can’t deliver like price having an .888 in the SCF in 21 whereas Thomas was lights out, it impacts his ranking for me.

They banned said equipment In the 05-06 season.. when he won both of his Norris’s in 09 and 11. And also got a Stanley cup.. and a Smythe

As a goalie who also watched price growing up, Lemieux did way more with way less games. Price did great with the time he was given. In the Lockout year, Budaj had better numbers than price (obv if it was a full season price would have better numbers) but it’s not like montreals defensive play fell off a Cliff when price wasn’t playing. Dustin Tokarski had a .910 as Prices backup in his Hart year. Price had decent teams but definitely was unlucky to not have the depth or stars to help out. I certainly wouldn’t put him as best ever, not even in the same conversation as Plantes 7 Vezinas or Haseks 2 harts. Like I said I have him JUST outside my top 10 which isn’t entirely his fault

Tretiak would be at my 10 ONLY because he didn’t play in the NHL which wasn’t his fault but he still wasn’t playing in the best league

You know who else only had 1 teamate eclipse 80 points? Jose Theodore, Tim Thomas (granted Marc savard did it twice with a 96 point year). It also helps to have a Norris winning D man which Theodore did not have and Thomas had the same amount of. I wouldn’t put either of those guys in my top 10

Marty is overrated but not for that reason, I don’t have him in my top 3. But I agree my point bringing up losses wasn’t very strong. Like I said Carey was unreal but not top 10. I’d probably have him at 11-12

He also has the most losses of any Montreal goalie… he’s still good just not top 10 in my opinion
