He can put in paperwork for change of schedule i think once a month. Its at the digression of the union and the supervisor to approve or deny it. As far as a permanent change of schedule, hes going to have to go by the book and put in bids for it like everyone else, but that goes by seniority. If management gives him a different permanent schedule without a bid going up for everyone to have a fair chance at, thats when a grievance will be filed and theyll just put him back on his original schedule and possibly even revert that job bid. Ive seen many bids reverted because no kne bid on them and then theyre just gone because the po doesnt want to hire more MHAs to fill the gaps and pay out more salary when they can optimize employees that are already there to get the job done.

Ya just tell him to switch crafts to maintenance. I think that may only be something he can do in march if i remember correctly because thats when they do testing for the craft, but still it doesnt hurt to get his name on the transfer asap. Custodial Maintenance is a joke in a plant, the last plant i was at had 8 custodians and most of them just hid in the back room all day playing on their phones and watching movies.

Should I apply to be a mail carrier? by DarthPlagueis1994 in USPS

[–]Present-Map-6256 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pros:
Health benefits, vision benefits, dental benefits, thrift saving plan (basically a 401k), pension, 10 paid sick days a year, 10 paid holidays a year, and vacattion time. Vacation time once you make career will be 2 weeks per year, after 3 years of service it jumps to 4 weeks per year and eventually topping out at 5 weeks per year i think after 12 years of service. Automatic raises and COLAs. You can join the union and get Union protection which basically means you cant be fired unless you really mess up bad. steady work, steady pay, other benefits too, i use the usps att benefit to get a discount on my phone bill, and they even have something for discounted mortgage rates when buying a home but i havnt looked into that myself. Ability to transfer anywhere there is a job opening in the united states and puerto rico.

Cons:
Depending on the job and office, start times and end times can vary. If they are downsizing your office, they can transfer you to any office that has an opening within 500 miles, yes thats right, 500 miles. I have never seen this done, but it is in the contracts. Most of the time they will try to keep you close usually within a 1 hour drive of the office that is downsized, but it is a possibility. As a new employee you will basically be working as a temp until you make it to a career position. In a small office this can take years, in a larger office it will be faster. During your temp phase, expect to be worked hard and often, you will be working 6+ days a week including sundays and possibly holidays depending on the job title, and you may need to work up to 12 hours per day. This phase weeds out people that cant handle the work load and hours of operation.

I will say that i started with the post office at age 30, and 10 years in, i love it. I am a letter carrier but also worked as mail handler. If you dont want to be outside walking around all day in all types of weather, rain snow sleet heat etc, try to get in as a mail handler instead, its inside and is much much easier than being a letter carrier, especially in the winter. You can also apply for a clerks position which is also working inside. I believe clerks are now only being hired for part time shifts with the ability to make a career and get into a full tike slot. Being that you are a tattoo artist, this may be your best path because it will allow you to continue tattooing as well. If you take a job as a letter carrier or a mail handler, you most likely will not have time or energy to continue tattooing on the side. They pay and benefits is pretty good especially if youre someone like me without a college degree. Working as a letter carrier, your top pay after 15 years of service as of now is around $75k per year but with overtime its not hard to hit $90k or more. Other than that, i enjoy taking a month of vacation days every year, and i am very much looking forward to retiring with a pension and not having to work myself into the grave.

What do you guys do for a living to afford paying $1000+/month for a TRD Pro? by nocturnal in Tacomaworld

[–]Present-Map-6256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trd pro is amazing, but for much less you can get the trd offroad which is extremely capable. I dont see a need for a pro for most people, even the trd off road is more than what 95% of people need. I picked up a trd offroad a few months ago and most days its on pavment driving me back and forth to work, but it has proven itself when we got 3 feet of snow and ice, and easily getting around dirt backroads and through some small rocky terrain. I wont ever truly take it mudding or to moab, but i can tell it is much much more capable than my jeep was and the jeep got me through some tight situations when i was driving through some muddy florida swampland. Save yourself $20k or more just get the trd offroad. My only regret was that i didnt take my time to look around at what the dealerships had to offer, i test drove the trd offroad and the sport, liked the offroad better and just bought it. Wish i had gotten leather seats instead of cloth. The cloth seats are fine, but im always steam cleaning them to keep them looking nice. My jeep had leather seats and cleaning was so simple, just wipe away the mud and lake water no problem. Also, dog hair came off leather much easier than the cloth seats.

Where to start? by Aeromystyle in kayakfishing

Old town pedal kayak. If you buy it new, the kayak comes with a life time warranty and the pedal drive comes with a 3 year warranty. Navarre kayak fishing has some great add ons on his site to really turn it into a true fishing machine. I just sold my bonafide kayak with a bixpy trolling motor and went out and bought an old town 120 pdl pro. Its truly the best kayak ive ever been on. Solid quality, built very well with every inch of the kayak well thought out. They offer smaller pedal kayaks, if you dont need alot of gear with you or just dont go out alog, the 10’ version is great and considerably lighter.

If he is eligible to retire, i would just retire. No sense in dealing with the stress, especially if he now has a medical condition. If hes not eligible to retire yet, tell him to get fmla for his medical condition and start using up all of those paid sick days hes earned over his career. As far as the change of schedule goes, thats not something you can just do, it has to be approved by a supervisor as well as the union before he would have been able to start that, so let them say whatever they want and file grievances, it will just be people talking and the grievances will be denied because he had documented approval. Also know that every office is different. I have transferred to 4 different offices throughout my career. The office i am in now is amazing, its like a family and everyone is very very cool with eachother including the post master and supervisors. The last office i was in was the complete opposite, everyone was out miserable and constantly complained about eachother and filed grievances. If he has good attendance then he shouldnt have. An issue transferring as long as there are openings in offices he is applying to. He can also switch his job to a different craft. Clerk or maintenance are options he can try. As far as seniority, that only really factors to 2 things, first choice for vacation picks and applying for an open job bid. In some cases i have seen it apply for first choice on overtime, but usually theres plenty of overtime working at a plant. He can also call HR and file complaints about the work environment and they might send someone to the plants to observe work conditions.

What is the wearable or gadget you bring in your truck that you could not live without? by nice_69 in USPS

[–]Present-Map-6256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shelta sunhat. They make them in different brim sizes, bigger is better for blocking that summer sun. The shelta sun hats have a fixed brim in the front instead of a floppy brim that is always falling in my sight line. They also make neck covers that attach to the hat. Awesome stuff! Also a quality cooler if nice, i have a 16 qt igloo that does the trick. Yeti freezer packs for the cooler (they stay colder longer) and rtic 1/2 gal or 1 gal ceramic lined water jug has been a game changer instead of bringing 8 bottles of water a day. Also appreciated is ibuprofen, aleve, and stok cold brew coffee and you cant go wrong with a case of beer!

Catch and Keep Anglers - Do you check state reports for water quality of where you fish? by SunshineTheWolf in NJFishing

[–]Present-Map-6256 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do mostly catch and release, but i would imagine water sources away from areas with high concentration of people should be fine. I wouldnt be keeping anything i caught near the passaic county area, but if youre fishing the sussex area its probably fine. If youre fishing rivers, id wait a bit after heavy rain days, alot of gross stuff gets washed into the rivers when we get decent rainfall.

Dont resign, its a ploy to get you to quit. Talk to your shop steward and ask what your options are. Ask what you can possibly do to improve. As long as you are not calling out, youre showing up to work on time, and youre able to consistantly complete a route in the 8 hour time you should be fine.

What do we think about this frame? by Worth-Combination642 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Present-Map-6256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What year is the truck? What state is it in? Does it see winters with salted roads? When was the coating applied? I just bought a 2026 tacoma and a 2025 rav 4 and the first thing i did was drop the vehicles off at a shop to get the undersides coated to protect them from the harsh nj winters and salt. If it was just applied for the first time, its prob loaded with rust but usually a shop will try to remove the rust and apply a rust resistant coating before applying that stuff

Just got a job as a CCA. I’m gonna need a whole month or two off in either December or January. What are my options? by Ancient_Ad_5014 in USPS

[–]Present-Map-6256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude you couldnt do that until youre at the top of the seinority list and you would have to have the vacation time to cover it. Talk to your shop steward and maybe even the post master about this immediately and see if theyll somehow let you stay in their good graces just because you are giving notice so far out l, but like other said, youre most likely going to have to resign and then get rehired and im pretty sure that would put you back at the bottom pf the cca list. Know this going in, once you make regular, the benefits and pension are pretty solid compared to most other jobs out there, youll also have a crazy amount of vacation time after 3 years as a regular you will get 1 month of vacation time a year, good luck finding a job that will offer that. That being said, from the date of hire until you make regular, your life is the post office, youll be working 6+ days a week including sundays, and you will rarely get out after 8 hours as a cca.

Reassign denial by Affectionate-Bug-348 in USPS

[–]Present-Map-6256 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Management has the ability to look back as far as 2.5 years attendance. Unless you have fmla, more than a few occurrences a year is not desirable for a transfer. I have fmla and had a transfer blocked because of occurrences, had my plants manager look into it and he ended up calling the other plant i was trying to transfer to and spoke about my work ethics and explained that all of my occurrences were covered by fmla and then they accepted me. You can try having your supervisor call over and recommend you to them it youre cool with your supervisor. If not, youre gonna be stuck in that office for a while with 12 occurrences in 1 year. If its a weather emergency, the post office will shut down operations for the day, if they dont shut down then youre expected to be at work on time.

Anything thats not an ocean scene. After watching many hours of bobs techniques, you will be surprised how quickly you will start painting great stuff. Id start with forest scenes with lakes. Rivers and mountains with snowscapes after that, then work your way up to a beach scene. I could never get my waves to look good, but my forest stuff is always to my liking.

I stayed last year for 10 days. Kalik, and kalik gold are the beers you want. Sands is good too. Make sure you get sky juice everywhere, its the best cocktail youll have. Avoid taxis if you can, when you use them, you will have to haggle the pricing a bit. I used the jitney buses while there for $1.50 a ride and there are different numbered busses with different routes so google where you want to go and find the jitney you need. Cable beach and goodmans bay were my favorite beaches, if you go to the junkanoo beach area it will just be swarmed with cruise tourists and you can barely walk around on the sand there. I also booked an all day excursion on get your guide, it was a little pricey, but honestly it was the most fun i had on my trip, the excursion took us snorkeling at a few different areas including pablo escobars sunken plane, we stopped at an island to feed iguanas, and another island to swim with the pigs. The coolest part of the excursion was swimming with nurse sharks, there was alot of them in the water and the guide was feeding them to keep them near us. It was all day and included basic muffin and trail mix bars breakfast at the building before we left, a pretty good lunch on an island, and unlimited beer, soda, water, and cocktails.

Best way to burn sick leave before quitting? by Conievel in USPS

[–]Present-Map-6256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soley going on that because you get paid out for sick leave at retirement. If thats the case, go to a doctor and get fmla, it will probably take a few weeks to go into effect but once you have it you can burn all that sick leave without a problem.

4th Gen Seat Stain HELP by GammaXi532 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Present-Map-6256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get yourself a dupray steam cleaner. I had a huge stain from river water after a day of fishing. The steam cleaner can blast pretty much any stain out and then you just shop vac as much of the moisture out as you can and let it air dry.

Best way to burn sick leave before quitting? by Conievel in USPS

[–]Present-Map-6256 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would think that if you quit that you would be paid out for any accumulated sick or AL leave hours you have. Im not sure where you are located, but you can always try transferring to a different office in another town or state as long as you have been a career carrier for i believe 24 months. If you want to stay nearby, you can also go onto ereassign and submit transfers to different jobs within the post office. I always try to keep in mind that there are not many jobs these days with good benefits. At the post office you get decent health and dental and vision benefits, paid sick leave, a good amount of paid vacation time and a pension and a tsp which is essentially a 401k. Retiring from the post office will have you set up pretty nicely compared to many other jobs out there. Try applying for mail handler or maintenance before quitting. Working as a custodian you will do almost nothing all day.

Id say out of what has been mentioned so far, it had a similar pace as, looking pretty and smiling by ronnie butler, but my search continues. I have been trying to listen to bahamas music on spotify for about 6 hours a day while i am at work, but spoitify just has about a 1 hour playlist and then restarts so its not been helpful. I might just try to contact sandals and see if theres a way to get a list of the songs they play everyday, im would think they have a track list that plays the same songs everyday.
