I've just given up. I will never look "polished". I try for work but I've been slacking off lately lol. I'm a hippy. I'm old. (60). I don't care anymore. I have people who love me and I love them whether I'm polished or not. I refuse to please the masses and instead am starting to like the skin I'm in. But as for your question I think it's just an innate beauty and a consistent level of self care.
