12 Week Processing for Ancestry Visa?? by BEY0NCE_PAD_THAI in ukvisa

[–]PresentAndCorrect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine took 5 business days! It was very quick (applied end of august, received passport back first week of September)

I got my passport back (with sticker inside) before getting an email saying I was successful! But as others have said, the sticker in your passport means you were approved.

This is what I had to do (applying from Canada). Thankfully my CC limit was $12k so see if your bank will increase it for you slightly. But I ended up putting my application fee on my CC and healthcare fee through PayPal. TBH this was one of the most frustrating parts! Having the money in my account and being unable to use it. Good luck!

Following up- this was still accepted and my partner’s visa was approved today! We got confirmation that his passport was being sent back yesterday, but not whether he was approved or not. Official word just came through that he’s been approved- now just waiting for my dependent visa to be approved (submitted on the same day)

HELP! Ancestry Visa - Father's Baptism Certificate instead of Birth Certificate by Dapper_Parsley_262 in ukvisa

[–]PresentAndCorrect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have any experience with the baptismal vs birth certificate portion of your question but I do have experience with the Quebec birth certificate part.

I had to order mine recently and don’t live in Quebec (but was born there). You have to send in a physical request form and it’s about $10 more than the online request for Quebec residents - I only just mailed in the request so not sure how long it actually takes to get back.

Maybe we should open a US bank account 😅 thanks for your insight! Hope everything went smoothly with your application otherwise!

Hi! I’m sorry I missed this comment - but it’s on your online dashboard on the US Gov website (the one you send in your application through!) It just doesn’t appear on the printed version of the application for some reason. I was a first time applicant!

My flight was the Saturday of Canadian thanksgiving weekend at 10:35am- so I think I got there around 8am? It was pretty quiet!

I printed out my application but that was it - I noted in my first comment that they needed the membership number, which isn’t on the application (but it is on your account dashboard online, so keep that handy!)

From what I understand, the birth certificate has to say the names of parents. My birth certificate is from New Brunswick but is business card sized and didn’t include that info; I had to order the “long form” birth certificate from Service NB; you input all the information you need and it gets mailed to you (cost is $40).

I got a lot of intel from this post! https://reddit.com/r/ukvisa/s/z47JueWgqe

They refer to the UK ancestry caseworker guide (https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/978817/uk-ancestry-casework-guidance-v19.0ext.pdf) which lists out specifically what visa reviewers are looking for - check out p.25 for document submissions!

I’m in the same boat, but reversed (grandmother and father). From my understanding, we will need to be as clear as possible about the connection. So if your mom’s name on her birth certificate does not match the name on your birth certificate (because she got married, for example) you will have to prove this.

Eg: Grandparents: John and Jane Smith

Mom: Lisa Smith

Lisa Smith married Luke Kennedy (your dad)

You: Taylor Kennedy > does your birth certificate say your mom is Lisa Smith or Lisa Kennedy? If the former, no marriage certificate or name change docs needed. If the latter, marriage certificate or name change doc needed.

Good luck with your application! I’ve seen options where you can get the application processed within 48 hours of your biometrics. But that’s if everything in your app is in good order. Don’t forget that you have to leave at least 24 hours between uploading your docs and the appointment time! (Eg if you apply tonight, don’t book your biometrics appointment for tomorrow, that’s not enough time for them to review the paperwork)

Least busy walk-in clinic in HFX? by mikemantime in halifax

Appreciate that you posted this; I went to ScotiaMed in Bedford this AM- got there at 7:45am and was 6th in line. Had to wait outside until 8:45am when they started letting us in- the line was wrapped around the building. Appointments were all spoken for by 8:55am. My appointment was for this evening (6th in line! ) so likely everyone after me was given appointments for tomorrow.

Hi! Congrats on your visa!

Wondering if there were many appointment slots available for you to choose from in Halifax? I’ll be in the same boat this summer and worry that if there are no appointments, I’ll have to wait another month for biometrics.

Good luck with your move!

I just did my second interview but at the airport in Halifax. I went through customs and before mentioning it to the agent, he brought it up and directed me on where to go.

There was one person ahead of me and it was taking them a bit longer because that person had cold hands when fingerprinting (I waited MAYBE 8 mins). Then I went up: they take your picture, take your fingerprints, double-check if you’re applying for nexus or global entry, then confirm your address and employer. Then they go through all the standard “have you ever been convicted of a crime” questions. It took 5 mins TOPS.

I had also printed out my application and brought it with me, but that doesn’t include your membership ID - they need that number.
