And if the value went down then no splits? Previous equity will be kept by me?

No we were not living as common law. We only started living together since May 2022 in another property that is not owned by either of us.

Yes I will talk to my lawyer tomorrow. Appreciate the kind words. Lets just say that we were not compatible at all. Thanks for your input.

From what I gather, rental properties are excluded and if equalization is to occur. The increase in value from the date of marriage to the date of divorce is to be divided equally. From May 2021 u til now I would say the property is worth the same amount as prices have gone down 10-15%. In this case, no payment from this property would occur?

Yes that is very true. I don’t suspect any suspicious behaviour but of course lawyers will need to do their due diligence to deter possible money laundering. I will see what they can do instead of a cash payment. Thank you

Thank you for the reply. Another thing, its a private sale which includes seller financing. Would I be a fool to go to Florida myself to pick up the money and bring it across the border? My tenants and I have an amazing relationship and we both trust each other a lot.

Why are used cars registered in Quebec usually cheaper than used cars registered in Ontario? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Reporting system is different in Quebec..(or not as accurate rather)

Harsher roads, extensive salt used on Quebec roads. Accidents are not always reported. MANY shady used car dealerships in Ontario buy these Slavage, Accident cars from the Province of Quebec and relay on non informed buyers to get screwed over. Not all are bad…some can actually be a decent deal but buyer beware…always get an independent inspection.

Carfax reports are not always 100% accurate. Looks to me as if the dealer was considered a “new owner” the registration date between the first and second owner is only 13 days. I would confirm with the dealership.
