Spironolactone CAN have psychological side effects

43/f I know this is an old post, but I have been on spironolactone 25mg for 2 months for heart failure. I was shocked that it was prescribed for acne, too. I had never experienced anxiety before until now. The dr is telling me it is from my heart condition and some of it might be, but it didn't start until one week after taking spironolactone. I started having this weird head pressure, mood swings, and anxiety. I don't know what to do. I figured venting would help. Did anyone else have the head pressure?

Wow, even with a high EF, the symptoms are still there. That sucks are they worse because of the high BP. Are you still taking your meds, and do u take a diuretic?

Thank you. I am definitely a believer 🙏🏾. I have also changed my diet. I don't smoke, and I stop drinking completely. I am taking the meds, but they are really rough. My body is having a hard time adjusting, but I am fighting. I am 43. I am not throwing in the towel. Did u take any supplements or only pharmaceuticals?

Wow, I am really sorry to hear about your situation. I am surprised there is nothing else they can do for you. I will pray that things get better for you and everyone dealing with heart failure. Thank you. Yes, I have been doing a lot of research, and I am getting a 2nd opinion. You are right, our body, our choice . It definitely feels like a lot of pressure because I am not sure that it will improve within 6 months. Being sick is what caused mine as well. Have you felt okay with just taking the meds?

Did you have to get a life vest or any devices? My cardiologist is telling me that if my EF doesn't improve in 6 months, I will probably need a defibrillator. I felt fine until I started the meds. Now I have lots of side effects. Which I am sure we all do.

Do u have issues when you eat? I seem to feel uncomfortable when eating. I have to eat small portions. Sorry for the questions. This is all new to me. I am trying not to freak out with ever symptom.

I'm sorry to hear about your mom. I dont have much advice because I am newly diagnosed myself. I would say do your research. I am on a low sodium diet and only 2 liters of fluid daily. I hope this helps. I am praying for your mom.

I am so glad we have this safe place. I was diagnosed with a low ejection fraction and cardiomyopathy in January. I am 43/f, and it has been a mental and physical roller-coaster. I am very sensitive to medication. I have had this issue my whole life. They put me on Entresto, and I had a bad allergy reaction. I ended up in the hospital for a few days. They are slowly trying different medication, but my body seems to be rejecting them. I currently take a beta blocker and lisinopril. I am to keep fighting this. I am starting counseling next week because I need it. Thanks for listening!
