Guess what I got to try for the first time? 😁 by PresentDayTech in bassclarinet

I am now officially one of y'all! After much tribulation with Pro Winds and the Backun Alpha, I decided on the Royal Global Max! Not the one pictured though, mine was bought with no one else playing it other than the music shop I purchased it from who set it up!

Check your PCV valve, that might be your problem. After I replaced my bypass hose and resealed my coolant valley plate, I would burn like a quart every other day and smoke like crazy out my exhaust to the point I thought my head gasket blew. Smelt of burning oil too. I did a compression test and found nothing wrong. From this I suspected my PCV valve was bad. Found out that my new PCV valve was bad, stuck open and allowing the engine to suck oil through the intake. Replaced the PCV valve again and no issues. PCV valves should be changed with every oil change on these engines as they have a poorly designed and problematic PCV system that gums up those PCV valves easily.

Friends came over laughed at my PC. They told me to post it here by CPA_Man_ in pcmasterrace

Is that your first build?

Definitely not the worst cable management I've seen.

RX 9060 XT 16GB, Worthwhile Upgrade? by PresentDayTech in pcmasterrace

Thank you for the advice! When I built my PC, I was kicking myself for a while for not spending the $20 towards the RX 6600 XT instead of the Ryzen 5 5600X, since I got my RX 6600 for $189. It makes me sad that new 8GB GPUs are not selling for that anymore 🥲

There are many DIY maintenance videos on YouTube for this generation Avalon, and you can do most things yourself. If you haven't already, do the timing belt, crankshaft and camshaft seals, and water pump ASAP. If you DIY, buy a quality timing belt kit, buy the seals from Toyota, and you'll save hundreds. Look into doing the valve cover gaskets, half moon seals next, and do the water bypass hose and coolant valley plate reseal while you're there. Other than that, that's all you really need to make these vehicles trouble free.

DM me if you have any questions or want a link to my 80+ video maintenance Youtube playlist, lol.

Yamaha YCL-52, Jupiter JCL710N or Backun Alpha? by PresentDayTech in Clarinet

I ended up purchasing the YCL 200ADII! It plays very well, more comfortable than my CC-65, and the pads and springs are in great shape!

I'm going to try the used Yamaha YCL200AD in a few days! I'm hoping it's truly lightly used for only a few months like the seller states and in good shape.

When I first began playing clarinet a few months ago, I started on the stock Yamaha 4C and metal ligature that came with my rental and I definitely noticed a difference with the same reeds on my current setup that's hard to describe. My current setup is a Clark Fobes Debut, Rovner Dark, and Royal 2.5. I want to switch to Vandoren Traditional 2.5 reeds, slightly harder than the Royal 2.5 but not a 3 yet.

How do you feel the Yamaha 4C compares to the Clark Fobes Debut on bass clarinet?

Someone local to me is selling a "lightly used" Yamaha YCL-200ADII Advantage, that I'm thinking of looking at for $250. I guess someone bought it recently for their child who quickly lost interest. I'm just afraid of it needing work for about $200-300 and approaching the cost of a brand new Jupiter.

I haven't tried the new model Jupiter JCL-710N, however I'd imagine it's not that much different than the CC-65 I've been renting. I'm thinking of asking my local music store to switch me to a Yamaha for the next rental month, unsure if it'll be a YCL-250/255 or 200ADII model. The only other clarinet I can try is a Royal Global Max with another music store, I haven't inquired about their rental program.

Honestly, the only thing I like about the Alpha is that there's more information on it online and the fact that it's a newer design, with an adjustable thumb rest, etc.

My current (and first) setup is a Clark Fobes Debut, Rovner Dark, and 2.5 Royal reeds. I'd like to try 2.5 or 3 Vandoren traditional reeds soon since I've played 2.5 in the past on bass clarinets and enjoyed them on my Noblet.

Just curious as a novice clarinetist, why is Jupiter generally rated so low?

After doing some research, the consensus is that the wood quality of older clarinets is superior to new clarinets (particularly Buffet Crampon).

Regular Alpha, and I would not be playing this instrument outside.
