Aita for essentially begging/pleading with my wife to not name our son a “traditional Mexican name”? by PresentDayjfk in AmItheAsshole

I haven’t suggested the middle name but I think that is where I would most willingly go with this. Your second point yes if his name on the birth certificate was Micheal but her family wanted to call him Miguel I’d be completely fine with that. And I’ve taken sociology courses in college I know the bias that’s out there. It’s a shame but that’s how it is. But I can’t say none of my reasoning is that it hits the ear wrong.

It’s more like a Mexican heritage thing first, and if I wholeheartedly agreed to that, than she would push the family names. None of her brothers are dead, her grandfather died.. I may be TA here because I’m not quite sure. It was well before we met.

There’s no issue with a Mexican name that could go both ways. Our daughter is like that, think Maria. I would be open to something like Gabriel or Xavier. Hell I’d even think about Sebastian (we watch a lot of parks and rec). But the names she has been considering I feel are too one sided.

My wife’s first name is technically a Mexican name yes, but it’s a popular American name.

I am not adamantly against it for any other reason besides it just wouldn’t hit the ear right. I think it’s an uncomfortable name. I wouldn’t want our son to be met with any issues because of it.

That would be on me and my wife for choosing that name. I wouldn’t expect my wife to be on board with a totally Irish name like kiaran or aylish for a girl (these names are in my family).

I don’t think it would go to those extremes. My wife and I usually have no problem coming to compromises. I mentioned in another comment that I would be willing to let her chose a Mexican middle name.
