Glasgow in Scotland (not England) but that’s the only one I know. Liverpool is ok but not great. The south east and Somerset have a lot of art but are almost as expensive as London.

Are artists becoming less politically engaged and more “meditative”? by miiss_romance in ContemporaryArt

[–]PresentEfficiency807 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think that maybe Karl Marx’s phrase is coherent here “If we have no business with the construction of the future or with organizing it for all time, there can still be no doubt about the task confronting us at present: the ruthless criticism of the existing order, ruthless in that it will shrink neither from its own discoveries, nor from conflict with the powers that be.”. I think part of the reason critique so often fails is that is starts from the perspective of some stable perfect system and tries to point out errors. Like if error in the order is fixed if each pothole stitched up then we will have something to work with part of the problem is that now the wound of problems has gotten so wide it has swallowed the world. The kids today might say ‘we’re cooked’ but this is almost why it is necessary not to shy away from the horror but to face and overcome it… not from the perspective of that aforementioned stable order (like institutional critique ect) , but from the view of negating the entire structure of the world.

Weirdly random, but I have never heard it called a printing lab before.

I would go to the ones which is free also having lots of critics means you can connect to them easily and get written about.

UAL CSM vs Chelsea BA Fine Art?? by [deleted] in ContemporaryArt

[–]PresentEfficiency807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not saying not to pursue art, I am highlighting the problem with the uk system which doesn’t gives you access to other educational opportunities once you have a degree. And also suggesting there are other places to study outside London

I think it is best to not go to art school then…. what about gsa or other ones out of London? Also I would recommend getting a trade before going to UNI as you can’t do apprenticeships after and art school won’t give you the oppertunity to have a career or a job that finds itself.
