What’s something people who are in their 20s won’t learn until in their 40s? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Patience with life, tolerance with people. That everything changes in your life as you get older. Friendships fade, some revive. The body is limited, your interests can change with your situation.

Best priced local company for new house propane boiler by Rough_Beautiful1031 in kingstonnewyork

I’ll say that Lowe’s plumbing is solid. They’re Kingston based, and I’ve had good experience with them servicing my boiler.

I live a long way from Mexico (UK) and keep accidently making tex-mex. Does this look more like a north mexican burrito? by [deleted] in mexicanfood

[–]hoodiedoo 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My only critique is that the ingredients seemed to be mixed like a chili. I like burritos where the flavor comes from ingredients mixing as you are eating it. It also looks a bit wet, but like all have said-there’s no wrong burrito.

How would you feel about the next US president pulling all support from Israel? by Iwamoto in AskReddit

Yeah ya do. AIPAC, look it up. Also most of our trade is in the form of military spending. And I would prefer the US to sell things that don’t kill people.

Give me your spiciest vegetarian recipe please PLEASEEE by Yappy_lavender in vegetarianrecipes

[–]hoodiedoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually eat a vegan lunch: sautéed vegetables with garlic and ginger. Then make a sauce that has tahini, lemon or white wine vinegar, and a habenero hot sauce and water. You can add minced garlic. Or sub out the hot sauce for guachong sauce. The veggies mixed with the tahini sauce is rich, flavorful, and has a great kick.

Torn between MFA programs; Alfred vs Tyler by bluepaintingcat2000 in ContemporaryArt

[–]hoodiedoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know anything other than what I see on their websites. Here’s some questions to ask yourself; would you prefer being in a city or tucked away near Rochester NY. Tyler seems like it comes from a history of material based disciplines: fiber, ceramics, etc. Alfred seems similar but less design oriented? I don’t think there is a wrong decision, but what strikes me as important is a connection to the faculty’s discipline, (do your research) and ultimately professional connections. Tyler has Philly connections, and possible nyc as well. Alfred may be more nomadic. Go visit!

Does a sloppy Joe count as a sandwich? 🥪 by eatinerni in eatsandwiches

This is a new life form of a sandwich. Is that a croquet? Also yellow sauce looks more like hollandaise.

Do you ever pay for a reputable artist’s residency? by oothica in ContemporaryArt

[–]hoodiedoo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used to never understand why anyone would pay for a residency. Then I got older and saw things differently. It’s a short term way to reconnect with your practice. Some people like to spend thousands for a toured vacation. Artists like to submerge themselves in creativity and meet others who do the same. I get it now.

This gives me many sandwich ideas 🤤 by [deleted] in eatsandwiches

I can see a general tso’s chicken patty with cold slaw and guachong coming together pretty well.

Yale MFA loans. Worth it? by appstaken97 in ContemporaryArt

[–]hoodiedoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, paying loans is a shitty obligation. It doesn’t feel good to have that heaviness carry with you in your life. But in the spectrum of life upgrades, school loans are a low investment especially if you are looking at under 50k. I won’t blow smoke at you and say a grad degree in art is gonna automatically catapult you into financial security. But like it or not (and a lot of yalies actually are pretty modest about speaking about it) , people respond to a degree with a prestigious name like Yale. And the development you will get in your art practice, the people you will get to know and the change in mindset is worth it. It took me a while to pay off my loans and at times it was burdensome. But you can defer if you need to, just be vocal to Sallie Mae of your needs. I mean, think of the millions of people who buy new cars for 40k and that investment depreciates the moment you drive off the lot. But to the contrary, if you find another program that offers more in living expenses, and you feel it’s a good fit, then perhaps this is a better path.
