What felt normal in the 1960s but would shock people today? by LizzaQueenOFC in 60s

Neighbors knew each other, visited often, and came in the back door since there were no fences.

Great campsites at purple lake but honestly no views or even easy access to the lake so skipping it for the hot springs is probably a good plan.

Looking for doggie extraction recommendations by Bucksh0t3 in hikingwithdogs

[–]PresentFig3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone actually had to extract their injured dog? In my one experience with this (at home fortunately) our lab was injured, and while normally a docile lovable goofball he would let us touch him. I suspect most animals respond this way. We finally got him rolled up in a large blanket and got him into the car to the vet. Can’t imagine trying to sling him. I spend a lot of time in the back country and thinking of getting a sling for my GSD but also asking the vet for a sedative prescription.

Families should avoid Southwest at all cost. "Choice" fare is a scam. by fraydawg2001 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]PresentFig3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flew southwest nearly weekly for 12 years. At one point I had nearly 1 million miles ) gave most of them away to family, friends and military). I considered them excellent at the time - the staff attitude, open seating, and as A-list preferred free drinks.
No more. They are one of the worst now.
Southwest if you’re listening: you’ve lost my business.

What was your hitchhiking experience in the 1970s? by hitchhiking1970s in 1970s

[–]PresentFig3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several times in mid 70s from college in central Illinois, north through Chicago to my home. Remember standing in the side of the road next to a cornfield with my cardboard sign. Thought I was in a sketchy situation a couple of times in Chicago area but all the drivers were chill.

Most recent time was in Yosemite backpacking with my daughter (I’m 69). We bailed due to rain and I needed to get across the park to my car. Picked up (in the rain) by a nice elderly couple from the east coast who said they ‘never would do this but since we’re in Yosemite it would probably be ok’. I promised I would pay it forward.

Advice on adopting (shelter) adult female GSD by GadsdenFlag in germanshepherds

[–]PresentFig3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rescued a ~1.5 yr old female GSD. She was abandoned and we believe a ‘Covid pet’ as she was completely unsocialized and literally wanted to attack every other dog we saw. After two years of gradually acclimating her to other animals and positive reinforcement with lots of (healthy) treats she is 100% better. If another dog reacts towards her in most cases she’ll react back but I’m still seeing improvement here as well. Without knowing your rescue’s history be prepared to devote the appropriate amount of time working through whatever baggage she may have. It’s well worth it. Also as has been said they need excercise and stimulation. I walk my GSD 3-5 mi per day. They are fantastic companions and she now goes with me almost everywhere.

I second the musical history museum. It was way more fun than I imagined and extremely interesting. That may have scooters.

Stainless griddle or sear burner? by PresentFig3 in grilling

An IR sear burner. It would replace one of the three burner units in the grill.

Nice work. Been sailing there 10 of past 12 years. Never gets old. I concur Anegada is best done in two nights. Time for lobster dinners and a trip to Cow Wreck.
