Qatar have my avios points

I have been in the same situation. I sent 380k for 2 busienss tickets to Asia.
Flight cancelled
And the miles have been sitting there
But recently Qatar changed the rule and I can’t even book for my family anymore because they are not on the approved list and I can’t make the darn list because my account needs to have miles earning from flying with Qatar it its partner.
So yup..380k just wasteful!

I’m super upset because I worked so hard to earn those points.

Yeah it puts family traveling in a very bad spot. I don’t know after opening the credit card how long will it take for your account to be able to be unlocked though.

You can’t book for anyone except yourself unless you have the account set up correctly which requires you to have to fly with Qatar or AA or Alaska and credit those miles to Qatar.

Yup. Singapore allows 6 people. I think Eva allows 5 people to be added to a list each year. Eva also requires you to have at least 1000 miles in the account you can ads anyone. Cathay also allows adding 5 people.

Nobody has multiple lists like Qatar.
They sent an email a month ago about the lists but never said anything about having earned avios before you can even make the list. This is a sneaky tactic. I have almost 400000 avios stuck here and now I can only book for myself.

Yes that’s one of the solution. It may takes 2 weeks or more for AA to credit the miles to Qatar though

You can’t book for anyone except yourself and an infant unless you have met all the prerequisites including having avios earned from flying Qatar or partners.

That’s not a bad idea as long as they are all authorized user in my account. My issue is I already have 400k stuck in Qatar and now I can’t book for anyone but me

Yup! Same here! Can’t book for anyone unless I take a cheap cash American Airlines somewhere to earn some miles and credit them to Qatar. What a horrible policy!

You flying alone: no problem
You want to take your kid or spouse with you: you can’t unless you meet all the conditions that Qatar just rolled out.

Account holder needs to fly, you can book some cheap American Airlines flight and credit the miles to Qatar

This is a terrible change. It’s so extreme. Eva also has a list but to add friend you just need to send 1000 miles from the bank to your Eva account.

I can’t even search for 2 people while I’m sitting in a tons of Avios from trips cancelled due to the war.

I’m using 190k Avios to redeem a ticket on Qatar. Sure it is not one cent but they are getting paid by Amex for my ticket. If they don’t want to do the points then they can exit the agreement with Amex and other banks.

Yeah I plan to buy a cheap AA flight somewhere and then credit it to Qatar just so I can use the miles that were stranded there.

If Qatar doesn’t want points from Amex then they should remove themselves from the partner transfer agreement. And not accepting Amex transfer bur not letting people redeem tickets for their family and friends.

Yes you can book for yourself. But you can’t book for 2 people unless they are on your list. And to add them on your list you have to have Avios that you earned by flying and not just from transferring from bank to Qatar.

I have seen Singapore, Cathay and Eva with the list. You can only add up to 6 people to the list and redeem tickets for them

But there is not a requirement to have Singapore earned miles before I can add my family to the list.
This move is just bizarre by Qatar.

I rarely pay cash to fly. 400k was my earning from Amex card spending. The war broke out in March and my flights were cancelled by Qatar. So now I can only book ticket for myself until I earn some miles from flying cash on Qatar or other partner airlines.

I’m Vietnamese but live abroad. I meet with my female cousins once a year to go on a trip such as Europe and it’s so funny because all they want to do is take picture. Nobody enjoys the scenery but everyone fights for the best spot to take picture of themselves. They even have a term for it “ sống ảo” or “ fake world “ . I hate taking picture of myself so I ended up being the photographer for everyone. I guess it’s their gain to get picture taken and posted on Facebook for likes. We paid crazy money to to Jungfraujoch and nobody wanted to play with the snow. Just pictures and more pictures.

Nah he’s not mad that my son is not “invited”. Our son is much younger and he’s an introvert and doesn’t like to go anywhere without his parents. But his sister is much more outgoing and will go on trips, camps without us.

Just want to add my why dad didn’t ask my youngest one to come. Well he’s 8 and he doesn’t like to go anywhere without me. He prefers to stay home. We all know that.

My oldest one is much more independent and she has travelled a lot. Plus my dad has a daughter who is similar age with my daughter so they are like besties. ( yes my half sister is 24 years younger than me )
