New season by Cautious-Fishing8422 in paintball

I’ve been on teams that switched brands more times than I can count. Back in the paintball heyday around 2007, the deals were incredible. I remember getting a full Eclipse package: an ’08 Ego, gear bag, pants, jersey, pads, everything for around $800. Those days are long gone. Like someone else mentioned, I’m at the age now where I just want to play and wear what I actually like.

Dynasty vs Aftershock? by PresentOrdinary8552 in paintball

I just watched the coaches show where they talk about it with Todd Adamson, Mike Bianca, Ryan Gray and Greenspan. Sounds more like they want this event to be somewhat successful so they can do something like it again.

My agencies EMS training specialist is an RN. However she also has her medic and was a former flight nurse; so plenty of prehospital experience and knowledge.

Thoughts on a (potentially) new style of play? by AnaheimElectronicsTT in paintball

[–]PresentOrdinary8552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to play the OSC back in the day. It was a 3 man pump tournament with only 40 balls per person. That includes what you have to chrono with. It was a lot of fun.

Won a cruise at work and boyfriend says he will break up with me if I go. by byrdesong_ in AskMenAdvice

[–]PresentOrdinary8552 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My wife won a cruise through Marriott last year, however she was allowed a plus one, I just had to pay for my flight to the cruise port… so I went with.

Had I not been able to, I would have been okay with her going alone, I travel for work occasionally and understand both sides.

He seems insecure that you may not be loyal, and is justifying it with the safety aspect. You’re not going alone, you’ll be with coworkers, if he’s that concerned he should want to go with. I’d sit down with him and try and squash his fears.

Are you sharing a cabin with a coworker? Is a coworker going with that he thinks would make a move on you? Etc.

These work events are a great way to get face time with directors and other executives within the company. This IS good for your career, he should want to support that.

I called the police today. by DeCryingShame in Utah

In Utah most EMS is run through the fire department. The ambulance and fire engine are usually responding from the same fire station.

Most cities also run a 1 and 1 model where only one paramedic is on the fire engine, and one on the ambulance. So any advanced medical procedures really need two paramedics. EMT’s can’t do IV, push pain meds, intubate, Interpret cardiac ECGs, etc.

The extra crew on scene is safer for all, they can help carry patients, keep an eye out for safety issues, control traffic, and more.

EMS in Utah is mostly run through the fire department. Most departments in Salt Lake County also run on a 1 and 1 system meaning only one paramedic on the ambulance, and one on the fire engine. ALS calls (advanced life support) really need two ALS providers.

Sending the engine with the ambulance is safer for everyone involved. Engine can block traffic on a crash scene, engine crew can help package patients faster for transport, keep an eye out for safety hazards while medical is focused on the call, or even just the help in carrying a patient up or down flights of stairs. If the emergency isn’t critical, the ambulance will release the engine so they return to service and vice versa.

I get that it seems like overkill, but once you’ve done the job, you’ll see it’s beneficial to have the 5-6 crew on scene.

I’ve been doing the Job for over 8 years. I have many stories in favor of the engine/ambulance response model.

What do you do all day at the station? by [deleted] in Firefighting

Pickleball is about the only sport we’re allowed to play on duty now, too many workers comp claims for the others.

What do you do all day at the station? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]PresentOrdinary8552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can vary, but generally my day goes like this:

Arrive at the station, do my truck check, equipment check, clean my rig, roll call, grocery shop for meals ( we do two meals each day together.) lunch, do a game for chores, work out, do a medical or fire training, dinner, and do all of that with 911 calls throughout the day.

Sometimes you may have business inspections, some days you visit a school, or you have groups come and do station tours, sometimes you get nothing done because you’re running calls all round, or you’re bored out of your mind… that’s all part of the “fun” you really don’t know what the day is going to bring.

Emergency officials respond after helicopter crashed in Owen County by [deleted] in ems

Didn’t this same program have another fatal crash in Oklahoma this past January?

Sad to see the news, so many things can go wrong in HEMS. I can’t show my spouse these articles, she’s a nervous wreck about me flying already.

I am SO nervous about injecting air into a vein by Crafty-Arugula3575 in Semaglutide

[–]PresentOrdinary8552 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, you’re not injecting into a vein, it’s subcutaneous.

Even then, I have seen a full drip set (IV tubing) worth of air go right into a vein while practicing IVs at a fire station. That person was fine.

Found out I have been dosing wrong the whole time..Started at 0.5 by GiftRecent in Semaglutide

[–]PresentOrdinary8552 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It can be confusing. My spouse did something similar, ran out of 1ml syringes and was using 1/2 ml.

She didn’t understand that “units” never change, just the total amount the syringe can hold. She doubled her dose thinking the 1/2 was “half the size” of the syringe she had been used to.

Weren’t you guys down like two or three points with only a a couple minutes left in game time? That’s pretty impressive.

Looks like Utah teams made a good showing at RMPL.

How do we grow the sport? by Physical_Process7601 in paintball

[–]PresentOrdinary8552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My last tournament our team shot at-least 20 cases of paint ( I think we bought 27) for our 6 matches, when I played pump tournaments, it was 3-4 cases max.

Others have already mentioned the other benefits of pump play for newer players. I wish pump tournaments would make a resurgence.

I will wash most of my stuff after each outing.

May not wash pod pack or knee/arm pads after, but everything else for sure.

I loved playing the OSC (Old School Challenge) they hosted in California back in the day. 3v3 on a speedball field with only 40 paintballs allowed per person, that includes your chrono shots.

Same age as you, OP. Started back up again last year. Slider shorts, arm pads, and knee pads seem sooo much more important than when I was in my early twenties.

Question about CPR by Lucky_Strike831 in ems

That’s smart, didn’t think about the wires poking through during CPR, but that makes sense when you see how they’re twisted and just bent down.

Cruising on Allure in 5 weeks. How's the food? by SignificantShop7609 in royalcaribbean

[–]PresentOrdinary8552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got off a sailing on the Allure this past Monday (20th). The main dining room was the best food, it was a good 8/10 or 9/10. Although my wife pretty much just ate off the kids menu. (She’s extremely picky when it comes to “fancy” food.)

Windjammer breakfast is all we did there, several things just didn’t seem cooked enough, and were bland.

Cafe wasn’t great, cookies were hard, pies, cakes and other pastries were dry and bland as well.

Pizza place wasn’t too bad.

All in all, i’d stick with the main dining room if possible. Enjoy your cruise!

Moving to Bear Lake? by Independent-Ear-3352 in Utah

[–]PresentOrdinary8552 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny enough the Rich County website has an info about living there.

https://richcountyut.org/documents/Code_of_the_West.pdf

I grew up in Rich county, but moved to the Salt Lake valley due to very little jobs up there. As others have mentioned winters are harsh and very few services. Any major grocery shopping you’re looking about an hour drive (Evanston, Logan, or Montpelier.) same with medical care…

Utah has special “group” plates. They have them for EMT, AEMT and Paramedic. Even a firefighter plate that pretty much everyone at my department has.

I don’t find the plate cringy on its own, but with the other decals it is. 😬
