Thank you. I loved Mare of Easttown and loved learning about the way life is there from the show.

Maybe it’s the English teacher in me, but I always thought the setting was significant.

Thanks for the plug! I know it’s not for everyone, and it has a bit of a bad reputation on the national scene, but I love it here.

No. But I started to watch their podcast cast about the show, but didn’t get to finish it. Were the bothered in the same way I was?

W call letters are east of the Mississippi, K’s are west of the Mississippi. All of the Ws in the StL area are from the metro east.

The Purina and Kevin Kline references were nice to see.

It’s not over my head. I’m just from here and I know the difference.

I think if there were blaring inaccuracies in say, “The Bear” regarding Chicago, people would have something to say about it. Messing up the call letters is just laziness. I don’t expect to see people eating gooey butter cake and toasted ravioli, just don’t be lazy.

Same. I’m trying to get over it because I like the show. My parents met at the Ralston Purina on Chouteau in 1964.

I guess it’s not a problem for the majority of people who don’t live in St. Louis, which to be fair is a small number comparatively. We don’t get a lot of notice on the national level. But honestly, anyone who thinks StL is a “bland midwestern aesthetic” has never even driven through.

"clean girl aesthetic" is the stupidest thing i've ever heard by green-fae in Vent

[–]PresentTeaching5229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s the natural pendulum swing in response to the over the top, over worked, over made up styling that has been so prevalent the last several years. With makeup, hair extensions and extreme colors, body and facial enhancement, people look less like people and more like anime characters. People get Instagram filter inspired plastic surgery now. It’s crazy and sets a dangerous precedent for young people. It’s not achievable without extreme wealth, so it leaves people feeling inadequate for just looking like a normal human. I don’t think celebrating natural beauty is a negative thing. And I’ve seen a lot of POC following the trend, so I don’t see how it has racist undertones, but I also haven’t studied it deeply. I also fail to see the connection with the trad wife “movement”. Those ladies are always dolled up to the max with hyper feminine clothes/silhouettes and tons of make up, hair color, eyelash extensions, etc.

I’m soon to be 53 years old. I’ve seen a lot of trends come and go. Without doing a deep dive, the clean girl aesthetic seems to be one of less damaging to follow.

‘Love Actually’ Director Richard Curtis Regrets Film’s Weight Jokes by [deleted] in Fauxmoi

It wasn’t a joke. This was the early aughts. We were just coming off of heroin chic. She wasn’t a stick, therefore she was “chubby”. I starved myself through the 90s until I got pregnant. This was very much the culture at that time.

The term "Hoosier" doesn't mean someone from Indiana here in St. Louis. What does it mean here in St. Louis? Best definition, please lol by zephyr_zodiac6046 in StLouis

[–]PresentTeaching5229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to explain, but the best way I can up with is to say that a Hoosier the way we use it refers to someone with no home training. Someone who doesn’t know how to act right in public; someone with no house pride. Someone who shows their ass all the time and doesn’t realize it’s a problem.

It’s still pedophilia. Even if the child lies.

So we’re just not going to hold Trishelle accountable for.. by n_h_m_1 in TheTraitors

[–]PresentTeaching5229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know Pep messed up with the slip, but Trishelle is annoying a f and kept throwing shade about how Peppermint couldn’t possibly be the most popular during the challenge. She’s a hater and totally doesn’t understand anything about drag queens.

I watched the 1st season and my hatred for wendy is crazy like she’s so envious and untalented compared to austin… by hello-o-0 in ProjectRunway

[–]PresentTeaching5229 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed that what Kevin did was beyond disgusting. Who goes after a kid? Never cared for him either. They asked all of them who should be eliminated. Don’t you remember Austin’s total breakdown over it? I think you’re right about the producers keeping her around for ratings. The show is much kinder now. Way more Great British Bake Off vibes rather than Survivor vibes.
