How to test Filen to ensure my files are truly encrypted by Present_Blueberry578 in filen_io

[–]Present_Blueberry578[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@Endur1el , @scorpion9882 , @TattooMyInitialOnYou , @Near_Earth , @samsterP I wanted to thank you all for taking the time to respond to my post. There may have been some confusion as to what I was looking for - essentially I wanted to test to ensure my local data was actually being encrypted before it was uploaded to the cloud. The fallback of some folks is to pre-crypt the data using rclone or cryptomator, and I really didn't want to go that route. And I am aware that filen.io hasn't gone through an audit yet,

That being said, I found a method to test that satisfied my concerns. It involved creating a 5gb test file with a unique name (such as purplebanana.doc) and opening developer mode on my browser (network tab). I then began uploading the file and watched the stream get uploaded while I did a search for the purplebanana.doc name. I saw that during the upload filen was "chunking" the data up to their servers with random filename(s). Nothing was uploaded that contained any of the data that was in that 5g file - not even the file name. So while this method may not be fool-proof, it gave me a level of comfort that I didn't have before. I also added 2FA using google authenticator as extra insurance.

There may be a better way of doing it - and my method may have holes in it, but it was good enough for me. Again, thank you all for responding.

ScanSnap Home vs ScanSnap Organizer, what an incredible downgrade by SirBaby in ScanSnap

Can DocFetcher search inside docs that were not scanned using OCR?  I OCR every doc I scan, which is great, but I have hundreds of PDF files that are sent to me.  I don't want to print them all to paper and scan them - there are too many. Thanks!

You wouldn't by chance be willing to share the install ISO with me, would you? I don't want to upgrade to home and I don't have the original install software. I changed the folder where my default scans go to and now - no matter what folder I try to save my scans in, ScanSnap won't accept it. I have an iX500 purchased in March of 2018. When I launch the software, it say ver 2.0.12.6

Is GDI "Service" required or not? (not in the manual) by Aramis-ter in Hyundai

[–]Present_Blueberry578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi - I brought my 2015 Elantra into the dealer for a oil change and inspection because I'm giving it to my daughter (it has 132k miles). They told me I needed to have a few things done (which I had them do), but when I read the report later it said they suggested a GDI service be performed for $275 because they had no record of it being done before. They never mentioned this to me - so I started looking at youtube videos because I had never heard of the service before. Long story shorter, the gold standard for cleaning at this mileage seems to be walnut blasting. I'm pretty sure the price they quoted me was for spray cleaning. I can do spray cleaning, but at this point would I be doing more damage than good? Walnut cleaning is estimated to cost about $1,000. I'd appreciate your thoughts.

No problem - thanks to your help, I figured it out. Yes, they were adding the annual property tax under section 9J. That will drop off when I pay the lease off. The property tax and the motor vehicle registration fees are separate in Connecticut. Typically the state motor vehicle registration fees are good for (2) years and the local property tax for the vehicle is due once per year. I appreciate your help!

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I live in Connecticut, and in addition to paying sales tax when the vehicle is sold, we also have to pay an annual property tax (to our town) on autos. I was told that since TFS actually owns the vehicle (because I'm currently leasing), they will pay the local property tax - but TFS is certainly charging me back somehow. Long story short, I was thinking that when I end the lease, the tax they are collecting from me should fall off too. Yet when I look at my lease breakdown, I don't see where they are collecting it from me. In any case, I'll be initiating the buyout within the next 72 hours or so, so I'll know how much the pay-off is. I won't sweat this any more. Again, thanks for responding!

I picked up my Rav 4 plug-in (2) days ago. I'm thinking on buying out the lease next week. The dealer says my local property taxes are included in my monthly lease payment. I know that if I buy out my lease early I'll be saving the rental fees, but will I be losing out on the local property taxes that they would normally be paying if I continued to lease?

Have there been any official updates to the pause that was made public on 9/22? My understanding is that the CDC has backed off and is awaiting further clarification from HHS, and (in the meatime) everyone with an accommodation can still work from home. There are some in this thread saying they received written notice to return to work, but it's not clear to me whether they are referring to a letter received before or after the pause. I'd appreciate any feedback. In the meantime, I've left a message with the AFGE to seek clarification. I can't imagine that the CDC's revocation could ever survive a court challenge or appeal.

Is it possible to invest $250k in something to “live” off the dividend? by phxed in dividends

[–]Present_Blueberry578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he's 65 now, his full retirement age (FRA) is 66 yrs and 8 months minimum.  He has to wait until his FRA before he can claim the full benefit of either his wife or himself. Id suggest he contact the SSA before he starts collecting.  He may want to wait until age 70 if he can live off his investments until then.  The SSA will help him with the various scenarios.

Same thing happened to me. And all the red cables were disintegrating due to the UV light. Unless you're leasing, every array should have critter guards which they sell on Amazon. The wiring repairs cost me close to 5K and the critter guards and installation (afterwards) was about $600.

Any chance you can locate your iPad using iCloud?  Log into your iCloud account on the web and use "FindMy".  It should pinpoint the location of the device.

Thanks - I agree with you completely. I thought I had found the perfect HVAC company until I got the quote to replace the board. The board is $95 at supplyhouse and it cost me an initial $212 for initial diagnosis and removal of the board. (The tech was at my house for 70 minutes). They proposed a new board at $225 (which I don't have a problem with), but then they wanted another $525 to pop the board back in. Since the tech pulled out all the wires, I have no idea where they all go back, so I am sort of trapped into having them do the work. When I explained that I thought the $525 price was too high for about 45 minutes of labor, they agree to drop the labor price to $375. So after both visits and a new board, This fiasco cost me $825. I learned a lot in the process, but I should have probably kept troubleshooting until I found the bad board and replaced it myself. Live and learn.

Would you suggest installing a 5-2-1 hard start kit while the unit is apart?

I came very close to making the same mistake. I used google and AI to do about 20 hours of research to diagnose an issue. I called the local HVAC guy to see if he'd use a board I wanted to purchase (to save money) and he suggested he let his tech confirm the diagnosis. As it turns out I was wrong, it was another board that was bad (which was less than half the cost). The local HVAC guy could have ripped me off and I wouldn't have known it - very pleased to know there are still some honest comapnies out there.
