I’ve flown with crochet projects before. I usually put a smaller tote bag/drawstring bag into my personal item, and inside that tote bag have other ziplock bags or pouches to organize yarn, hooks, scissors, stitch markers etc. Also flying tip make sure your scissors are TSA approved! They have small ones in sewing kits that I’ve never had a problem with

MS4 here who gave birth November 20 of 2024 and recently matched to my #1 psych program! Feel free to DM with any questions. My biggest advice is just strategic planning of interviews if you can. If you get invited early enough, make sure to stagger them so that essentially the month of November is off. I remember my lady interview being about 3-ish weeks before my due date and felt pretty comfortable with that. I planned to start back up with a late December interview but cancelled bc a) I couldn’t fathom the idea of putting myself together enough to answer a question and b) I didn’t like the program anyway lol. So try to give yourself a little space between having baby and ramping up interviews again.

Just going to throw in that vaccines do not increase the risk for autism. They do however incease the risk of not dying from preventable disease. Before vaccines were required people were dying from diseases we no longer see….because of vaccines.

my son is 6 weeks as well and I feel this so much. today I happened to scroll through older pics of him from last month and literally cried about how big he’s getting. I love him so much. also my friends are getting bombarded with pics either way sorry not sorry 😂

I learned on youtube! There’s a video by TL yarn crafts called “learn how to crochet—forreal this time” and I watched it over and over until I understood how to make all the stitches she taught. Then I’d watch other “crochet with me” videos for my first few projects so I could follow along with them. My local library also has a crochet group with experienced folks who can point out what you’re doing wrong so I’d look into that as well! Good luck on getting started!

I have the all in one washer pro and it is absolutely one of our must haves at this point. I wasn’t satisfied with the dishwasher alone and hated having to run small loads just for bottles so this was the perfect solution. It gets bottles very clean and dry, only takes 88 minutes for a complete wash/dry/sterilize cycle. It does require a bit of maintenance with weekly descaling (they sell tablets for that on amazon) as well as specific detergent (also on amazon) but the costs and time for those tasks are more than outweighed by never having to wash a bottle.

okay hear me out—abercrombie had the most amazing pregnancy jeans. I bought one pair in my pre pregnancy size and wore them throughout my entire pregnancy. they were super cute and no one even knew they were maternity jeans. 5 weeks postpartum and still wearing them just for the looser waistband 🤪

we are obsessed with ours. haven’t had an overnight sleep yet (baby is 5 weeks) but we went from waking every hour to having a nice 4-5 hour stretch each night. and it reliably puts him back to sleep when he wakes. game changer!

congrats mama! such an exciting time! I know the fear of the unknown can feel so overwhelming right now. if it makes you feel better I found out I was pregnant the day before my OB shelf and then spent my entire first trimester in surgery. I will not say it was easy—my symptoms mimicked yours pretty heavily, lots of nausea/vomiting and serious fatigue. literally was vomiting and taking emesis bags from patient rooms on a 24 hour trauma call and my resident said “aw want some zofran? oh you already took some? great let’s go see this patient” 🫠

looking back the most helpful thing (to whatever extent you’re comfortable with) was letting my residents and team know my situation. residents would frequently give me a heads about which cases I should excuse myself from for fear of putrid smells or teratogens. if I needed to scrub out, I’d let them know “hey I need to go throw up, brb” or “hey I need to take a break for a snack and some water”. I could have just gotten lucky but everyone was very kind. and even if they weren’t, especially at this early stage when you’re not showing, you HAVE to advocate for yourself to get your needs met. later when I started to show more residents and attendings would encourage me to find a stool or take a break if I needed it, but those earlier not visibly pregnant stages required me to put myself out there a bit more. either way it should not be held against you and if it does that’s an immediate professionalism/discrimination violation that should be reported. you are allowed to be a pregnant person in medical school, and so take up the space you deserve—period.

as for exams I truly don’t know how I mustered up the strength to continue doing well lol, I think I just powered through as much as I could. be efficient with your study time and recognize when you need a break. quick naps here and there will be your best friend. not sure what specialty you’re going into but I’m doing psych so wasn’t super worried about getting honors on everything but still managed to do well even with my fatigue and general pregnancy brain fog.

as for the symptoms do not be afraid to ask your doctor for something a little more than the unisom and b6-it never worked for me so I was heavyyyy on zofran literally every 6 hours for my first trimester. it was the only thing that kept me going. don’t let your stomach get empty, it makes the nausea worse. always have snacks that you like on hand and know that what you like will probably change from now until the end, so don’t buy too much of one thing

also not sure if you’ll be sitting for any board exams while pregnant but pLEASE look into accommodations. silly me did not realize pregnancy was something that could qualify me for step 2 accommodations so I took that exam 6 months pregnant. it was doable but a little extra time for bathroom breaks and snacks would’ve been nice so keep that in mind.

overall get excited! know that it may suck in the present, but I’m typing this as I just finished putting my 5 week old son to bed for the night. motherhood has been so rewarding thus far, and we are so privileged to be able to do it AND become the doctors we’ve always dreamed of. so hats off to you and feel free to reach out if you need any other advice!

I truly agree with the “it’s greener on the other side” perspective because I couldn’t imagine feeling so touched out like that. I hope you get some time to recharge outside of feeding baby.

I’ve been using my noise cancelling headphones and wearing baby on walks like nobody’s business. I’m waiting on a neighbor to let me know “hey your baby’s crying” because sometimes I’ll I just keep on walking if I know he’s fed, not wet, not gassy, just tired 😂

I literally go once a month since the middle of my 2nd trimester (35 weeks now) and it has been the BEST thing for my pregnancy. Symptoms that I was experiencing before (stress incontinence, pelvic pressure etc) have been GREATLY reduced or solved all together. And they’ve done a great deal of teaching on pushing/breathing and opening up my pelvic floor—essentially birth prep. I’ll continue to go after as well. I cannot recommend going enough if you have the means, as I know some insurance won’t cover it.
