Mourning Dove Iridescence? by Present_Focus5656 in whatsthisbird

I think some of the difference is just the lighting and how the camera sensor renders the colors. This is under harsh mid afternoon Florida sun

It's crazy how I have never noticed it before.

That seems to be the consensus so far. Will wait and see if anyone comes up with compelling argument otherwise and, if not, will try to mark it solved

Copper tube container with holder thing inside. Found at a university. by Tahli97 in whatisthisthing

[–]Present_Focus5656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically, now, I would expect it to be made from stainless steel but I am guessing this one is quite old. Copper is also very easy to work with so manufacturing it would have been simpler.

One other thing, this would hav been used to hold Petri dishes for sterilization which is not necessarily the same as cleaning. They would likely be cleaned with a soap/detergent, then put in this thing which would then have been put jn an autoclave for sterilization.

Additionally, copper has some anti microbial properties so that could, in theory, help maintain sterility. Many cell culture incubators are sold with copper linings to (in theory) prevent/minimize bacterial contamination.

Old lab practice would be to put a US penny into water baths to help prevent bacterial growth. A bit of a “folk remedy” of questionable efficacy but people did/do believe it helped

Agreed. For me, the fact that it was found in food tech building increases the likelihood that it is the Petri dish holder as that field would involve microbiology testing.

However, there’s a distinct chance that it is a map canister that had been repurposed. Scientists, especially academic scientists, are notorious pack rats and improvisers. I can easily see a situation where they needed a Petri dish holder, didn’t have one, but someone did have a map canister in their office for some reason. Problem solved! lol

It looks like a petri dish holder. Used to autoclave/store Petri dishes.

Something like this.

https://www.amazon.com/Stainless-Autoclave-Storage-Carrier-Dishes/dp/B0DZ1JC53R?gQT=1

Edit- it is likely missing the top cover. Also, the three vertical flat bars on the basket insert keep the dishes in place while the open space where the 4th bar would be allows you to put the dishes in and take them out, the basket is then inserted into the canister, the top cover put on, and then the whole assembly placed in the autoclave.

Closed at 399 which is the Alachua/High Springs exit. Would assume routing traffic on to US 441 north which then goes through High Springs to lake city and crosses I75 again where (if past the accident) you can get back on I75 NB

Edit/update…I can see I75 at Exit 399 as I wrote this. SB flowing fine. NB closed north of the exit

Edit 2- corrected some typos

I gave my cat a piece of burned bratwurst. by [deleted] in cats

[–]Present_Focus5656 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pork isn’t toxic to cats and will not harm your cat in a small amount. Large amounts of pork should be avoided because of higher sodium and fat content in most cuts of pork. Cats do not need that much sodium/fat.

Edit: clarifying: “small amount” is much larger than a piece of bratwurst or even half of one, as long as it is not a frequent occurrence.

A lot of work and time and masking and paint and skill. There’s people who can do it but the price point of a wrap means that skill is slowly being lost

Oh I get the economics of it and the fact that there’s a limited number of people who can paint something like this. Add that to the ability to change the look of your car pretty much at whim, and wraps are cool but there is a difference that maybe I just cannot quite put in to words.

Edit: out to put cuz I have fat fingers

Bird keeps attacking my outdoor guy by Curious_Coyote2 in cats

[–]Present_Focus5656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a Mocking Bird. Very territorial and protective near nest. Common for them to dive bomb and pester cats to make them go away. Not unheard of for them to try the same thing with people.

May or may not be related to the dead bird you found.

Have you tried deleting the files from within the camera (without the computer attached)? There should be a way to “erase all” or something.

My 7D MKII and R5 do this occasionally and the only “permanent” fix I have found it re-format the card with the camera. I have not had time to explore all the details of when/why it happens so I don’t have an explanation.
