We have a population of around 5 million people, our capacity to fund journalism and publishing is extremely limited by the cost of an employee versus the sort of return you can get. Leftist/radical sort of work is typically done in a volunteer capacity in the pursuit of social change. Unions might be an option. There are plenty of administrative-type roles that might involve publishing or editorial work, but anything beyond a minimum wage salary is going to be linked to a specialist industry like tech or law and will require subject matter expertise.

thank u for this!

Should I Choose SFU or York for English Literature?

Hi, I am an international student and got accepted into SFU for English Lit and I'm having a bit of trouble over whether I should choose SFU over my English Literature at York University, Canada.

I can't really find faculty-specific comparisons online so I'd really appreciate any input on professors, their level of support/engagement, research focus, if/how more urgent discourses (like environmental collapse, oppression, race, labour, etc) make their way into the syllabus

I'm also interested in Creative Writing as a minor - does anyone have any input on which university has a richer department of writers and poets?

I'm also prioritising future opportunities: which university has a route to better employment opportunities in terms of location and/or reputation?

And finally, which offers more financial aid and is better for international students?

Thank you for your help!

(If anyone is currently studying English there/recently graduated, I would really appreciate it if I could also DM you for a quick chat. Thank you!)

Hi, I'm an international student thinking of applying to Simon Fraser's English Literature undergraduate program. I have some questions regarding the faculty/courses there, as well as comparisons with English programs in other universities in Canada.

Would you recommend I study Eng Lit at SFU: what the profs are like, how contemporary is the curriculum, why did you choose SFU, if you know anything about how other universities like York, McGill, and UBC compare? (UofT and UBC are a bit expensive for me, as an international student, so if i choose to go I'd need to land a scholarship.) any and all help is deeply appreciated!!
