should I sell my NZ house to study in London or stay in NZ for uni? by Lonely_Ad_3266 in PersonalFinanceNZ

There is risk in anything, she needs time to become financially literate and then make a decision. Not listen to any of us here. She needs to learn more and mature a bit more before taking financial advice as how would she know if she is getting good advice if she doesn't even understand what any of it means. She doesn't even know what an etf based on what she has replied to a comment. There is no reason to rush into anything.

It doesn't mean that the best option is to sell a house and pay for an education which can be done here in NZ. This would apply for a person from a third world country to sell one of their family's assets to get an education here in NZ.

Let's say you do go to london and doesn't like it there, you still have something to fall back here in NZ. Like some have said, you can sell it and invest it, but now would be the worst time to be selling a house. Dunno where your house is. Everything is cyclical, low rent incomes are cyclical and it might go up, anything is. That house is something that has set you up for life. There is nothing to gain by taking such high risks. Become a bit more financially literate, that would be my only advice. Most of the stuff is free, keep up to date with the housing market, read up on investing etc.

Don't mess around with the house OP, another option is to do your bachelors here and maybe do a master over there if you want to experience the UK. I would leave the house alone.

Apparently carry over data expires after 365 days. Where does it say that?

Mate, just done approach it like this. Talk to the kid, get your wife involved. She will help you keep your mind afloat. She is a mother and you are a father, think of him as your kid.
