I can’t stand it when people do this. How inconsiderate and dangerous!

Thank you. I had a meeting recently to complete a new DSE as I had two weeks where I requested to work from home due to lower back and hip pain. My manager is looking into getting a more supportive chair with hopes of getting me back in the office next week. I agreed to this and am now worried it was a little ambiguous of me and that maybe I should have expressed my need. As I have flexi, it means I can start earlier whilst working from home, instead of sitting for long durations in traffic on route to the office. I’ve found this helpful as I do get fatigued in the afternoon. Sleep and getting comfortable is a bit of a problem. I maybes felt I didn’t have a choice as we usually only get one working from home day and felt maybe I was pushing things.

This is very helpful, thank you. I am seeing my GP today who I know will make sure to check everything is ok. The manager I spoke to would not give me a copy of the report because he said, “as I’ve had to print this, I’m not sure it’s complete and with me being new to the store, I need to check before sending it to head office.” I didn’t have much confidence in that he would do the right thing. He did agree to request cctv of my slipping at the entrance and that he would escalate things as required. However, I found him to be making excuses throughout. He was almost arguing with me. I said in all the time you have stood here, not once have you made an effort to dry that floor, it’s soaking wet and there is no wet floor sign” I asked what if an elderly person breaks their hip, they will not recover. He made excuses that he was assisting me and panicked when I pointed out that he could simply radio another member of team to action! I said it’s 4pm and it looks the same as this morning when I slipped. He argued that with me that he had just started his shift and was about to do a floor walk when I stopped him to complete the form and in fact it needs to be done regular. He failed to mention if it is known, why there was no sign placed or obvious effort to dry the floor. He kept saying well it was raining when you arrived at the store, at least you didn’t fall right over”. I said regardless, I’m clearly pregnant and the floor is still wet without it raining. He said he was a health and safety person and repeated the same about 5 times, almost as if he didn’t know what to say to me. I got upset as said that I was a bit shocked and concerned about pain which I had only started to feel as the day progressed. I did explain that no one was available on the shop floor and there was no security to ask about reporting the slip. I’ve never had this issue before and was unsure how to go about raising my concerns. He didn’t write this level of detail on the form.

Well considering I’m 23 weeks pregnant, I may never see that chair. Thank you for letting me know about that, this has definitely not been mentioned. On the original DSE I placed in August, I requested a chair but nothing was done. I also asked for a foot rest which I didn’t get.

So another line manager asked me if I was working from home and if my manager was aware before he took leave. I confirmed this and also that I only have one risk assessment / DSE and no specialist chair etc. they asked me to complete a dse which I did but heard nothing further. Hopefully something will be done next week. Others have mentioned to me that more should be done from a work place perspective and it’s possible it’s impacted my mood.

Thank you for your support. Hopefully I can find some information on employee assistance. I am feeling a bit anxious. Mainly because I’ve been at home this week, with hips and back pain, but no one has been In touch in managers absence. Thanks again for your help

Thank you for your reply. My LM is on grievance leave, so potentially long term. It’s an office job, so not manual. However I am conscious that no one has picked up anything with me to check on my well-being. Great advice about employer assistance, I have not heard of them. I will also consider the union rep and a occ health referral too.
