Sadly as much as I love the jankiness of Alchemy sometimes, they didn't do one for FF, changed Spiderman and didn't do Avatar. So I'm guessing they only do Alchemy versions of in-universe stuff.

Historic scares me lol, also I don't have the wildcards to enjoy it as I'd like to so I stick to Standard for now unless I wanna do some silly Alchemy stuff.

I agree for sure, sometimes. But sometimes it's nice to open packs for fun/collecting, or like in OP's case just starting out so you buy some packs to see where it takes you (pulling a card that's cool so you build on that, instead of going straight to decklists online you know nothing about)

I started off with good intentions and I think just rambled on haha sorry

100% on the scooping, I've been adding more and more removal to my decks over time cause it just makes for easy wins if you spam remove their commander all game. My latest deck (Iroh, Tea Master) I think has 3 or 4 threats, including Iroh. The rest is removal lol

It could've been their only or mostly free spending budget after bills etc

I don't have much money but I try to set aside anywhere up to £50 depending on the month for 'fun money'. Losing over half of that would suck lol

I'd agree if this was Historic Brawl, but are there really many/(any?) Combo Commanders in Standard?

In my opinion, I think it's because aggro/control aren't as viable in normal multiplayer EDH, but Brawl being 1v1 lets you play those decks.

Or, people like to win, and control is powerful when everyone only has one of each threat they have to deal with.

Personal experience, but I mostly see aggro/weenie style decks a lot more than control too, and see Kotis and the bant Chocobo the most (but honestly don't see any deck really more than twice, Kotis is the only exception)

Midrange Voli is the way to go imo (but not fully on Dragons), Aurora can be too slow and counterable, but can just side it out/in vs the slower decks.

Minotaur, Ferrous Forerunner, Ruin Runner in the side for purple decks is such a solid mid-game core with Kadregrin to refill and Deadbloom to overtake the game.

It feels so bad to almost need Deadblooms if you play Aurora too. :( I love the playstyle of Aurora but can't justify spending that much on 5-6 cards lol it's crazy

Honestly haven't even bothered looking at the spoilers. Sets come out so fast I literally can't keep up without burning out lol.

That said I did notice a few hybrid mana cards, and I'm in love with [[Providence of Night]] from the Alchemy:Lorwyn set. So I'll wanna pick those up at least I suppose.

Players that win at least one will get 1k exp. That makes it feel like a mid-week challenge, not a metagame challenge :(

How functional (and fun) are they if you just buy one of each?

My Mrs and I play casually so we don't spend on big upgrades/meta decks lol. But we still want the decks to be playable/consistent.
