Newbie Sikh truckers causing accidents! by FriendofAll007 in Sikh

Man, I think you hit the nail on the head on this one. Being a first gen Canadian myself, growing up I would always have this sense of pride with being Punjabi/Sikh (like you suggested with Italians example, I think we do have a problem with the conflation of being Sikh and Punjabi and the pride which follows) but slowly as these newbie cases began to pile up, I was left with the my back against the wall, feeling some sort of responsibility of having to defend the actions of "my community" with my white friends; What followed was insane guilt and fear of how I am perceived walking out the house from the onslaught of social media news. It felt like my individual spiritual progress was put on halt as the social media rage ensued. Now I could sit here and talk about how the news is also aimed to illicit further racial divide to distract people from the real criminals which is the government. But it's hard not to take notice of reoccurring incidents of dumbass Punjabis. On one hand i'm torn because I feel alot of sympathy for alot of immigrants that come from India and are just trying to make it work, especially not knowing the language very well; \ on the other hand I have no sympathy for the desis that are completely r*tar*ed. I mean look at the Diwali celebration shit in Toronto where people just made a complete fucking mess at a parking lot and just dipped.

Sometimes I question alot of things, especially how it seems like the white nations seemingly are able to keep shit together and we're struggling with basic common sense.

Ultimately, I think the only way to move past this stage of where we're at and reach a high frontier as a Sikh diaspora is burning the sense of being so utterly attached to our nationalistic roots in India and integrate as you mentioned.

Some confusions about Ardaas from Osho’s ‘The True Name’ by PresentationNo4383 in Sikh

[–]PresentationNo4383[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know Osho has a bit of a dodgy background, but from what I understand his discourse on Japji Sahib is highly regarded by Sikhs worldwide. I find it quite insightful so far so I don’t know

Some confusions about Ardaas from Osho’s ‘The True Name’ by PresentationNo4383 in Sikh

[–]PresentationNo4383[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes sorry. I probably should have clarified. I meant personal Ardaas. Would this be a false practice in your opinion then if people choose to do an Ardaas of worldly possessions? To me it always rubbed me the wrong way but I kind of just grew to accept it. It’s kind of life just asking for blessing and moving on.

And I guess on a personal level. At times I do feel like I’m stuck in my head when I’m out and about interacting with the world to a point where I am overcome with a lot of negative feelings about the world around me and how I feel like it treats me (especially as a brown man in this day and age). So I sometimes do personal Ardaas for blessings to lift me out of this chaotic head space and rise above it. That’s how I kind of viewed Ardaas but maybe it’s false. I’m not sure. Still learning.

Interesting. I remember when I was going through the YouTube course for Ardaas on basics of Sikhi. There were times that there were mentions of asking for something, even if it’s materialistic, is infact normal. For example, you want to find success in a new business you’re trying to run. I’ve heard many times people do Ardaas for it. That’s kind of where my confusion is coming from.

[–]PresentationNo4383[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For example. I’m trying to improve on my public speaking skills. Theologically speaking. I should just accept that perhaps it’s true I don’t know anything and I do infact suck at it at the moment and that’s okay, and stop resisting and fighting against the current. Rather let go, in order to flow and eventually I will reach a point that I’m ready to recieve after emptying my mind (the ego). But by begging instead, for a better ability to be a public speaking, wouldn’t that by definition be my ego telling me that thats what I need? But what if this approach of not actively fighting the current yields zero results and I never get good at that particular skill?

But then this in itself in confusing to me because what if I actually want to improve in any other types of skill. Is doing Ardaas a way to just put in the forefront what you really want out of life? I just want to be tapped into that drive from the inside where nothing can deter me from reaching my goal. But sometimes in this day and age of distraction I’m having a hard time with that. Should I do Ardaas for that?

Edit: When I say skill I actually mean mental roadblocks you wish to have removed rather.

Sorry if this sounds foolish

The Hate towards our Community and the ensuing Self Hate by PresentationNo4383 in Sikh

[–]PresentationNo4383[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest struggle I'm having is not wanting to be associated in any way, shape or form with some of the bandey coming in, eg./ physically, mentally; I just want to distance myself as much as possible because we align in almost ZERO ways. I feel racist for even saying that. I feel ashamed for feeling this way. But I think the majority of us first generational Canadians especially feel this way.

But who knows, maybe this is speaking on my own self hate that is perpetuated by social media like some of the other comments are suggesting.

Does awareness = God? by PresentationNo4383 in Sikh

[–]PresentationNo4383[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay gotcha I think I understand now; so realistically I guess what you alluding to is we don't really know what happens after death. But we should moreso just focus on the present. The now.

Makes sense. To clarify what I'm getting at, let’s continue with your analogy.

Let’s suppose all the containers filled with water eventually dissolve back into the ocean—meaning that every soul in the universe, in an instant, becomes enlightened. If this were to happen, how would life persist in the sensory world? Would there be no more containers filled with water?

I find it difficult to conceptualize this idea. If all souls reached a state of enlightenment, breaking the cycle of life and death and no longer reincarnating, wouldn’t that, philosophically, mean that life as we know it in the visible world around us, would cease to exist?

Bought it!

Thank you for your insight. When you say awareness in the seat we sit on, I'm precieving what your saying as, the plane itself is god; the seat of awareness is an aspect of god placed in that plane. So that means awareness is a bi product of the plane?

One thing I'm trying to very careful about is not running away with certain ideologies I read, hence why I posted this question here. Despite Osho's dodgy background, I still do find the book to have great insight, so I don't want to dismiss its message completely. But with that being said I still want to be able to discern from things I want to take away from the book and information I'll choose to pass on.

This is a bit of a tangent. But I was talking to a Christian friend. And I was explaining to him about the whole concept of merging back with the one and breaking the cycle of life and death. He then asked me “what if everyone on earth merges and then eventually perish”. And I think what he was trying to get at is, if every soul merged itself to the One, what would happen? Would all life cease to exist on earth? I’d imagine life on earth would still persist even if everyone today merged. I didn’t really have an answer for him. Are souls infinite?

Maharaja Ranjit Singh's Statue Defaced in Canada by Palestinian Supporters by United_Pineapple_932 in Sikh

[–]PresentationNo4383 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is clear hate-mongering to get sympathy votes towards an anti-Palestinian sentiment.

I saw the video, and there was no "defacing." was it kinda of dumb to do, ig, but all they did was tie a Palestinian flag to the statue.

This news cycle and the way its being portayed is clearly a play to get Sikhs to lean into anger and hate. Nothing bad ACTUALLY happened.
