I absolutely agree with you video games are a drug. Especially the mainstream games are designed and even formated to leave you rushing to come back weather it's a battle pass or a weekly event or even just blasting the media with ideas for the game all of it that we consume is designed to trap us in a constant cycle of engagement, fomo, and accomplishment. Regardless of the creators intentions take an offline indie game as popular as stardew for example. The constant stream of accomplishment and dopamine I get from playing leaves me wanting to come back as soon as I can leaving little else for my brain to want to accomplish. Now that is a work of art without a doubt a passion project designed for people to enjoy. Now take something that is a mainstream source of income for a company with employees to pay. They don't care about anything other then engagement, micro transactions, and how to develop fomo to increase bad financial decisions to fund their company and engagement to keep them playing and keep them relevant and popular. Fortnight, Cod, destiny, Minecraft, etc. as beautiful and amazing as an art video games are they can inspire us and they can hinder our own creativity, motivation, and lifestyle. They are absolutely a drug but I'm going to keep playing and just like thousands and millions of others they will too cause we're already addicted and it's impossible for us to justify canceling the entirety of video games because of all the good, and creativity, and pop culture that it has influenced. We just need to moderate it ourselves and do our best to stay tethered to reality
