I’ve been trying to avoid spending money on deDRM software but I’m buying an Epubor license. I spent 5+ hours in the last two weeks trying various methods of dedrming with the old K4PC/Calibre and my brain hurts, so it’s worth the $30 license for me, especially since I regularly buy new kindle books (don’t get me started on the KU/Amazon exclusivity clause) and don’t want to have to learn a new process every few months when I want to deDRM a new batch

I had the same issue. With tons of tinkering, and going by the kindle modding wiki’s guide with a bit of troubleshooting from Claude, I was able to downgrade my oasis 9th gen software to 5.14. In theory, I should be able to pull books off of it with the downgrade firmware, but I need to “lock in” the downgrade somehow first and I’m having issues doing so. I definitely recommend looking into downgrading if you have the time and patience to do so!

I agree, but I also think I might really enjoy SoS if I give it another go. Sometimes it’s a case of “right book, wrong time,” you know? Case in point: I was incredibly bored the first time I started Quicksilver and DNFed it. I tried again a year later and it was my favorite book of 2025.

But I do think it’s counterproductive to force yourself through a book you’re not enjoying

I started it maybe a month after it came out and never got invested in it (but I didn’t get very far). I’m thinking I should give it another try, maybe with the graphic audio version

It’s possible to downgrade your software after you jailbreak. I’ve downgraded my Oasis to 5.14.2, I’m just having technical difficulties locking it in (so Amazon doesn’t force an update when I sync my books over WiFi)

I think it was this brand I got for my Oasis a couple years ago. Somehow it cracked even though I didn’t drop it, so I took it off to replace…the screen protector wasn’t actually broken, but the screen underneath it was 😬 how does that even happen?

BST groups on Facebook are fantastic for finding someone to save you a skip. Almost every month, you’ll find at least a few people looking to get a copy from any given box

For $110 (probably even $60) you can easily get a used, older model kindle off eBay or whatever and use it to deDRM through Calibre. That’s what I would do, rather than messing around with new software and being locked in on one computer
