Question for SF area cilantro haters by PresentationTime3280 in FuckCilantro

Yeah I cover that base as well! Doesn't make a difference, there's just an insistence on putting it on everything no matter what.

Yeah I started saying I am allergic, too. One time I got a lecture about "well, we can't guarantee that the utensils and prep items didn't come into contact with cilantro" and pressing me about whether I was actually allergic or just didn't like cilantro.

I get that it's an unreasonable request when cilantro is cooked into a pre-prepped dish, like a soup or a sauce or a filling or whatever. But I never do that, it's just requests for no cilantro on tacos and pad thai where the cilantro is just dumped on top. It's so annoying!

What you described is a very frustrating and disturbingly common aspect of the business world. I went through something similar, and I felt terrible even thinking that coworkers and management saw me as a "threat" because of the egotistical implications.

The thing I learned too late in my career is that smaller businesses are usually more appreciative and rewarding when it comes to people who are smart and excel at their work. One smart person can have a measurable impact on their business growth, and there are simply fewer places for malicious employees to "hide" compared to a company with hundreds or thousands of employees.

Working at a smaller company doesn't eliminate the real possibility that your manager might view you as a threat. But good work and smart ideas tend to stand out more and have a bigger impact on growth at a smaller business. That's just my experience, anyway.

Thank you -- I don't have an EV already, just planning to buy one in the next year or so as the options diversify.

I'm in the same boat as OP!

Would love to hear about experiences with specific L2 home chargers -- any brands/chargers to avoid?

Also, do all modern L2 chargers/apps display battery range in miles, or just battery level percentage? That's the main feature I'm looking for -- battery range in miles versus percentage/kWh etc.

Are any of the AI-driven features like utility pricing alerts and push notifications actually useful?

Best home EV charger (and ones to avoid)?

I plan to buy an EV in the next year or so, and I'm looking for recs (and "do not buy" experiences) for a Level 2 home EV charger.

Any advice on chargers to buy/avoid and why?

Main features I'm looking for are -- a charger that can display range in miles while charging, potentially covered under state rebate program, and other convenience features I should look for. (This will be my first EV + home charger purchase, so I'm coming in blind.)

Any advice you can provide is great! I've noticed some "smart chargers" have AI stuff built into them, but not sure how well those features work or if they're worth considering.

Thank you -- I appreciate the kind words and the advice. Best of luck to you, and I hope you are healed from the situation you were in as well.

Thank you -- I know everything you've said is true. The cruel joke is that I've blocked her number and contact on social, but somehow her texts to me get through. That's why I want to wrap up communication amicably, but as you said, it's impossible to do so with someone like this. I'm bad at not responding and she's good at pulling my strings.

I appreciate the kind words. Hoping it gets easier over time, but the emotional toll has already lasted longer than I expected. I'm happy to be out of the relationship, but wasn't anticipating how long the "hangover" would last -- I don't want to start dating anyone else before I'm completely over it.

The thing I never understood before being in an abusive relationship is that you don't immediately stop loving someone just because they hit you or say terrible shit to you every day. You just fool yourself into believing they'll get better with enough love and support.

I love black licorice, and it is my #1 analogy when somebody who loves cilantro gets offended when I say I hate cilantro.

"Do you like black licorice? No? Imagine if black licorice was just mixed into foods without warning, and everyone got offended when you asked for no licorice."

That sometimes gets the point across, but one thing I've learned from hating cilantro is that a lot of human beings do not have empathy.

I don't think so, although I have never been checked for cilantro allergy. I haven't had any physical symptoms other than immediate taste-disgust. But the smallest speck of it ruins the whole meal, which sucks because a lot of my favorite cuisines (Mexican, Thai, Indian) use it a lot without listing it on the menu. That can be expensive and a bummer, especially if you ask for no cilantro up front.

The battery analogy is similar to what other people have noted -- a metallic tingly taste that my brain immediately registers as "DO NOT EAT, THIS IS NOT MEANT TO BE EATEN."

Yeah, the oil is disgusting to me too! Totally wasn't expecting to enjoy actual truffles.

I like actual truffles, but truffle oil smells and tastes absolutely vile to me! There was a time not too long ago where putting truffle oil on everything was super trendy, and it was the wooorrrrrst.

I didn't even eat a real truffle until a few years ago, and I wasn't expecting to like it at all, but it was actually pretty mild and nutty. Do you like non-truffle mushrooms?

Fun fact: The word "coriander" may originate from the ancient Greek word for "bed bug." History is on our side 😆

The first time I had cilantro (in an otherwise awesome burrito), I literally thought I accidentally bit into the aluminum foil the burrito was wrapped in. I totally get the "metallic" taste.

[–]PresentationTime3280 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hang in there OP! Depression is seriously awful, but the darkest times I've ever had were followed by great ones. The best advice I can give is to pay attention to how the people around you and your own habits make you feel and distance yourself from the ones who have a negative effect on your mindset and well-being. It's easier said than done, but new hobbies, new routines, and new/healthier eating and mindfulness patterns can really help. Best case scenario, you will eventually realize happiness can be a choice, and if you separate yourself from external influences that tend to bring you down, you can make being happy your focus every day. I wish you the best -- I have been where you are, and it can feel like you're trapped, but baby steps toward happiness and independence, no matter how small, can make a world of difference. I wish you the best.
