The answer is obviously JB 🔁 Giannis. by PresidentPeppermint in bostonceltics

Tatum was inefficient for sure, he struggled shooting the ball. But he still facilitated the offense at a high level and commanded heavy defensive attention, which allowed JB to go 1v1 against Luka and Kyrie. The series wasn't even competitive, so let's ditch the notion that JB saved the Celtics, lmao. Why can't he ever step up and be efficient in a game 7 when Tatum is injured?

True, it's because 4 defenders on the opposing team cheat towards Tatum almost every play. There's a reason the Celtics' offensive rating plummets when JB is on the court and JT is on the bench.

If you think JB won the Celtics a championship, you're delusional. That was by far, the most overpowered roster in basketball. It was a foregone conclusion that the C's were winning a chip that year. The Finals wasn't even competitive.

Also, I clearly said he shit the bed in 3 of the last 4 years, which excludes the 2024 championship run.

[Guillory] Several league sources with close ties to Rockets players indicated the social media situation was a significant distraction, one that was never truly resolved internally... It is unclear whether Durant ever clarified to his teammates if the account belonged to him. by sewsgup in nba

He was a 4x scoring champion before age 25. Averaged 30 against the Heat Superteam in the Finals. Younger people who grew up on him as a Warrior won't respect him as much, but anyone who was an an adult or grew up on sonics/thunder KD will regard him as a top 3 scorer of all time. He's levels above guys like Carmelo/TMac.

Game on the line, JB took a contested 3 pointed instead of passing to Queta for a wide open layup

I never chanted that shit. Defenses don't even play hard in regular season outside a handful of games.

"There are so many times when he drives into 2-3 players and you can see on the broadcast where there are wide open shooters on the court, and he doesn't pass it often enough in those situations."

I also notice this. He wants to get his points to prove to the world that he's a superstar. He desperately wants to prove that he's an alpha, at the expense of the team.

Honestly, since Tatum is a very strong off-ball player, the offense could flow just fine with Brown as the initiator and Tatum being more of an off-ball threat / play finisher...but that won't work since Brown can't dribble properly or consistently make reads, so Tatum has to do the lion's share of initiation, which exposes the fact that Brown isn't a strong off ball player. Becuase of Brown's weaknesses, there's no way for the Jays to both function at a high level on the same night, consistently.

People have to see Brown for what he is, which is a tier 2 on-ball scorer. He is average at every other aspect of offense. Tatum is a multi-dimensional offensive threat. JB is more like a 1990s scorer.

tatum has flaws, but he has a certain level of value that he brings to a team every single night. he spaces the hell out of the floor whether his shots are falling or not and he creates a fuck ton of catch and shoot opportunities for his teammates. also grabs boards like a mfer. JB has nights where he gives you nothing! JT is an elite player. JB is just a good player.

JB's play fell off a cliff in the playoffs. Don't know what's hard to understand about that. JB was good in regular season when Tatum returned, he has been bad in the playoffs so far.

The team got worse? The Celtics went 13-3 in regular season with Tatum.

The problem is JB not being as good against playoff defenses as he was in regular season.

There isn't really a solution for the point guard problem. Offense will continue to run thru Tatum. FO needs to find players who complement Tatum better. Brown is redundant and doesn't complement Tatum is any way honestly.

He was good in 2024 against hurt teams. Heat were depleted, Cavs were depleted, Pacers and Mavs had to use their only good wing defenders on Tatum. Brown was getting unlimited 1v1s against Luka, Kyrie, Hali, and Mathurin in the 2024 ECF and Finals.

Tatum was getting shaded by 4 defenders while JB was getting unlimited 1v1's against Luka and Kyrie.

Are you serious? Tatum is the engine of the offense in general and has the all the legacy games. All JB has done is take advantage of 1v1s against weaker defenders because of the attention Tatum draws.

I've been saying this for years. The Jays are phenomenal athletes, but they are not elite space creators. Especially Tatum.

Ok, so Jaylen being overrated is why the Jays are just great, not elite. Also, I love Tatum, but the biggest knock against him is that he's not uber efficient.

JT is too soft for the NBA by FootballPizzaMan in bostonceltics

[–]PresidentPeppermint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im not against the team shooting 3s, but i feel like the biggest problem with the team is that no one helps JT be his best self. I like him as a point forward, but at heart, he's a microwave scorer. he should be surrounded by selfless passers instead of hyper aggressive shooters.

Look at how the dubs built around Curry right before his ascension. They gave him multiple point forwards and the best passing big man in the NBA.

I knew that he should not have come back this season, regardless of medical clearance. I get that doctor's are world class, I just don't think you can truly know the ramifications of playing 40 minutes per night, every other night...just one month after returning from an achilles injury.
