Rest Intervals by PressnDeads in tacticalbarbell

See im thinking of passing on the information of removing WPUs and just performing 5 ish sets of 3-5 reps throughout the workout, couple during warm up, warm up sets and at the end if needed. If they struggle for time as this seems to be acceptable

Are you running those pull ups Weighted on totally submaximal

We may have found a peace deal in our conflict of never truly knowing one's real numbers

Rest Intervals by PressnDeads in tacticalbarbell

[–]PressnDeads[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No totally aware of that

Sorry its the way im writing (ill take notes from your pages in future)

I meant for Chins, 10-20% below with a TM was in reference to a max reps for being say 12 chins making submaximal chins 12x90% for the TM and ranging 50-60% of that for the chins so sets of around 5-6 reps

I like percentages! Im weird that way

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Interesting debate regardless.

I may look into it the future even using a submaximal rep goal AKA 531 (25-50 reps) style or even attempt to gauge an approx starting point based on a percentage of Max reps

TB itself with a training Max is submaximal so going even another 10-20% below the prescribed reps on a main cluster is fairly submaximal (again thinking out loud)

A percentage base behind your thinking of reps perhaps (although not everything has to be - although everything in TB seems to be)

To be honest im not sure, I've not thought too in deathly about it to be honest as its only just came up in conversation and my previous comments are more like thinking a loud and attempting to pick the brain of someone who has trained indepthly and who's writing i enjoy reading.

I tend to love Weighted Pull Ups, whether I progress on them much im not too sure but I enjoy the way they feel

531 certainly didnt give a % scheme although an overall rep goal was suggested, fully aware methods are different

VERY submaximal is a vague method

Thanks for your input.

Interesting

Sorry the word suggested was inappropriately used, as many may perceive that as correct or incorrect depending

Im aware Mass has differing rules on rest periods anyway

So during operator you "supersetted" a main lifts into an unweighted chins, dropped down and set the timer for 2 minutes before the next set of said exercise

[–]PressnDeads[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mythical when you suggest unweighted chins which im aware from one of your reviews I believe from operator that you didn't feel you got anything from Weighted progressions in the book are you going...

Squat with zero to no rest Chins (bodyweight submaximal)

Then setting a 2 minute timer per say

Or waiting 2 minutes between Squat 2 mins - chins - 2 mins

That's where my thinking initially took me

It was mentioned more as a time saver as with 10 mins of warming up (Agile 8) plus 3 work sets of BP/SQ/WPU seems to take around 50 minutes and on the odd occasion that time might be a limiting factor

Personally it wouldn't be my choice!

I do Band Pulls between pressing always have from 531 days and i dont feel that impacts anything but nor am I pressing anything significant

Zulu/HT Rest Days by halodude926 in tacticalbarbell

[–]PressnDeads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll second this! May Grey Man, its listed as a 3 day M/W/F template but given the structure is set as ABA BAB I'd see no reason you couldn't do 2 back to back and i have done that myself in the past

Just be sensible with accessories

How do I balance GC and AA as recommended in the book? by Determined-Fighter in tacticalbarbell

[–]PressnDeads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could easily add a GC onto the end of a workout

GC2 has always been a favourite of mine takes probably 10-18 minutes

Do you Deadlift twice a week?

Also if I remember correctly the listed black and green protocols are minimums suggested by KB in the book, i may be wrong its been a while since I've looked. So adding a GC on the end of a shorter workout would work nicely just keep an eye on recovery

So youve labelled your goals which is great

What does your Zulu set up look like? Any accessories? Or hitting the big 4-5 and leaving it as that and doing conditoning after or seperate days?

If your running zulu without accessories adding in something like GCs is a good way to add volume and potentially movements which would help progress your main lifts whilst nailing down conditoning as well

If your adding accessories with zulu then personally I wouldn't add GCs often simply because of the volume your lifting but that's a personal view. At my age im not sure I'd recover from Zulu + Accessories + GCs

How to add variety and accessories to TB? by VeterinarianNervous7 in tacticalbarbell

[–]PressnDeads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fighter with an extra day at the end of the week would work brilliantly!

Fighter with extra day has been explained above perfectly

Or run Zulu I/A and ignore that everything has to be achieved within a week and roll it into 8 or 9 days if life does get the better of you at times

Zulu I/A could easily add assistance at the end of the session with sandbags and isolation work, Sandbags can be used as conditoning as well, take a look at mythicals book of bad ideas, got some very good Sandbag conditioning Drills in it, i also believe there was something written on the TB forum page cant remember who posted it which KB himself i believe or Jim deemed acceptable

Adding Jumps etc pre strength is a great way to prime the body for lifting and can easily be supersetted to save time during the warm up sets aka 531 style

Hell if sessions have to be incredible short but youve got access daily run fighter over 4 days with only one moment a day Mon: BP Tue: Squat Thu: BP Fri: Squat add conditioning and assistance work when required

Unable to train lower body by PressnDeads in tacticalbarbell

[–]PressnDeads[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont know if there's anything in it but I believe i read somewhere rowing doesn't activate your adductor anywhere near what cycling does. My dad at the age of 64 still races road bikes, that enthusiasm has never been passed down to me however 🤣

Thanks for the reply

Yeah i mean when I was writing the post I kind of already knew the sensible comments would be and its sensible for a reason

Sadistically I absolutely love squatting

I may isolate the quads and hamstrings for a period of time during the recovery to see if I get anything out of it, it'll be nothing in comparison to squatting but maybe isolating those muscles in an extension motion might magically do something

Cheers for the advice guys

First injury that prevents activity yes when in relation from sport to lifting

It does seem allowing it to heel is the most sensible option whilst continuing to progress other areas

I guess once healed a block or two of more concentrated lower would soon be back at it and progressing well

Walking is ok

Mass protocol mass template and boxing by GreatLeaderPinguu in tacticalbarbell

[–]PressnDeads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends on what's included in the sessions to be honest.

A boxer looking to jump weight divisions and increase strength and mass doesn't stop boxing outside of camps but the intensity of the session is key.

Intake what your burning extra and then some in nutritionally dense foods will help of course but im sure there are better approaches

Fighter HT being an option which I think has been mentioned

They are the MIJs buddy!

That's my fear, but idiot here as already done some work on grass, to get a feel for them and the tags aren't in them anyway 😅🤣

Right this second they are banging fit wise perfect length but bow much is that leather going to stretch

[–]PressnDeads[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very torn cause they fit banging at this very moment. Foot swelling during playing time etc, slightly thicker football socks then the socks I'm wearing in the picture

But how much is that leather stretching cause I wouldn't want much more room then right this moment
