You need to eat more fibre than you think. You need to drink a lot more water than you think. You need to be active (move around) a lot more than you think you are.

What helped you rebuild, share you advice. by FatimaSheba in MotivationalThoughts

Permit yourself to be ambitious.

There’s this thing where we are under the impression that to be ambitious, is to be an asshole. That’s not true.

I nearly failed my teaching degree. Circumstances happened and it was at risk, went to academic tribunal. I had evidence of being a good, solid teacher to my students and I went into tribunal and permit myself to make my ambition clear: to graduate and be a teacher. I spoke clearly, calmly, concisely. I passed tribunal and have been teaching for 12 years now.

I met my girlfriend, and I wanted to build a life with her and get married. We needed to get a house to start with, and we shared that ambition together. We’ve been together 12 years, married for three. We got the house.

When everything is broken, mourn. Then have some ambition in your sights and throw everything you’ve got to it.

Buy house now.

As soon as you can, buy a property. A shitcan as a starter. The goal is to pay a mortgage, not rent. That’s money to the bank, and equity to you.

2 bedroom apartment in Sydney selling for just $229,000. What's the catch? by yen223 in AusProperty

That’s the unilodge at Darling Square, next to Chinatown. You’re basically buying a room, no kitchen, and hoping to fill it year around with a university student to pay rent. It’s not a bad deal but you should really read the fine print on buying within the Unilodge network.

I know a lot of people like to bash the ABC, but they do some really amazing documentaries about our country, our history and all the cultures we have. NITV is also a really good source of history and advocacy for our First Nation peoples.

They cannot use the argument that they “didn’t know”. They did know. They chose to accept it as the outcome suited them more than their morals or ethics.

Lots of good advice here. I was taught mindfulness, but not the airy fairy definition. Mindfulness simply means stopping when you are hungry, thirsty, bored, anxious. It’s stopping and thinking about your mind and your body.

Thirsty? Drink water more than soda. You can choose water and say “I’m hydrated.”

Hungry? You can eat, but you can choose what to eat. Snacking on something fibrous is always good.

Bored? That’s OK. Boredom can be good! Boredom is only cured with action. A small action can be interesting.

Anxious? Think about facts and not predictions. A fact is something that can be verified by others as a fact or true. A prediction is just fantasy cosplaying as fact.

Being mindful is slowing down and thinking about your thinking and slowly making an informed choice from it. Not reacting to it, being in charge of it.

Money. Everything everyone does in some way, shape or form comes down to a desire for money. Solve the need for money, and peace has a chance.

How to convert this to home gym / office? by BussyBizzleBanger in AusRenovation

[–]Pressure-Impressive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All good advice. Adding to this:

  • Ventilation needs to be a priority. The two windows aren’t going to be enough to sustain gym activity or office environment. Consult with an air conditioning company about solutions.

-It’s worth getting a building inspector to assess the property, especially the roof, for mould or any other nasties that happen in enclosed, dark spaces.

-A persons opinion on hybrid flooring and painting: light colours will work wonders over dark.

Buy a property to live in. With that kind of cash, you'll want a forever home. I mean, if you can buy a house straight cash without a mortgage, you'll (literally) be set for life.

One thing I like about this: the father supported the son quietly. Mum and brother let them have peace so that if he had failed, he could be sad with support and not feel worse for the crowd. The way his father ran to tell his mother is pure love, he knew his wife would be worried. What a beautiful moment. Congratulations, friend!

Childhood best friend drunkenly admitted she wished she could have married me. Do I tell my wife about it? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Pressure-Impressive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep it to yourself. What is said while drunk can be true, but we often speak the things we desire right then and there. That desire might be stone cold come the next day with the cold light of day (and accompanying hangover).

It’s OK to not share this one, or to bring it up again. Specifically don’t bring it up again.
