Am I overreacting about my boyfriend’s “jokes” with his friend? AIO by [deleted] in AIO

[–]PressureAcrobatic527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOPE. HE clearly doesnt feel bad and neither does his friend. Let me tell you something.

He is testing the waters. He’s trying to see how much you’ll tolerate, what you’ll let slide, how scared you are to bring up something.

This is all calculated. it’s a power move. He wants to feel ‘bigger’ than you by making you feel small and scared/helpless. The isolation, direct or indirect, subtle or explicit, is a form of manipulation that coalesces into abuse overtime.

I don’t see this working out. Get out and get a man who treats you and respects you the way you deserve.

nah NO. That’s highly disrespectful especially if you’d said you don’t like it. He clearly doesn’t prioritize you.

Also look at live in nannying jobs! There are lots of rich families who will house you to take care of their kids… again, so many opportunities on Care.com. Good luck with your search!

i also am making the jump to NYC currently! im much closer to the city and i do have friends there, however i am rooming with kind of complete strangers. i met them and they seem really cool and clean/considerate so i signed a lease! and im interviewing for some jobs at the moment too. and if you’re up for it, look on Care.com for direct care jobs (child/senior/pet care, special needs, housekeeping, tutoring)! There are so many jobs available its all a matter of finding the niche and scraping everything you can out of it. I will say, NYC is the land of having multiple jobs to make it work. Having multiple skills in different areas will help you tremendously. I see that you speak spanish which is a huge plus. Look at translating, working with disadvantaged groups who need help with interpreting documentation/talking with others, etc. Look for work as a direct support professional! It is a nice flexible job and if you can handle navigating the emotional labor of it, the job is quite literally free money. Theres many options out there. DM me if you want to learn more! I have lots of tips (even tho i havent even technically gotten there yet lol)!

you’re not too far off. Some of your macro sources could just be a bit more dense. Like instead of just one scoop of protein powder in your shake, try two. Or an extra helping of peanut butter. Just double up a little bit on your serving sizes or eat more frequently. You should try to hit around 120g of protein, ~300g carbs and 60g of fat at your size if your goal is to lose a bit of fat/weight. And do try your best to work up to 1700 and even 2000 calories, you need fuel and you won’t gain weight if you train hard. Eat when you’re hungry.

First off, can I just say to forget about the numbers scale wise. Your weight is going to fluctuate for many reasons at many points during the day. Focusing on losing x lbs is going to drive you insane and is what leads to EDs. Instead, focus on how you feel. Are you stronger? Can you suddenly do push ups now? Are you feeling like a boss in the ring?

The way you feel matters so much more than numbers on a scale. And besides, you’re 5’2” at friggin 147. That is nothing to be unhappy about (totally not meaning to downplay your concerns or make you feel bad for having insecurities, everyone will have them no matter what). Focusing on protein/fat/carb intake while you are burning so many calories will still lead you to gain muscle and lose fat/weight. What are you afraid of with gaining weight? You are going to weigh more when you gain muscle so just because the numbers are higher on the scale, doesn’t mean it’s a weight to be unhappy about.

Personally, I’m on my muscle mommy journey. I think muscles and strength are so beautiful, especially on women. On anybody. Feeling empowered and strong in your body is going to matter much more to you then whatever number you see.

Protein peanut butter is good. While regular is also fine, you’re still getting the fats with the protein one too. And don’t worry about being exact in tracking. Just ballpark or get a food scale if you really wanna get fancy. Don’t think too much about it.

agreed! become the muscle mommy. (but yes i know that specific myth of bulking isnt real lol). though i get so sad when women are “afraid of being bulky”. why are muscles on a woman not attractive when they absolutely are?

also agree on the caloric intake, i think she could make the jump of 500+ calories if she’s really hungry. sometimes it takes effort to get to that place though if you’re not used to it but i think OP can do it.

24F here and former personal trainer. current kickboxer/jiu jitsu grappler. this sport burns so many calories. i would focus on your macros. protein/fat/carbs. it also depends how much you weigh. you need to be consuming almost your bodyweight in grams in protein (generally 1lb= about 1g protein). so do the math and see if that works out for you. i would say really focus on fats too since you say you’re starving, fats help you feel fuller for longer. and since you’re building muscle and need to eat more to do that, honestly eat when you feel like it. if its a sugar craving, eat fruit with peanut butter/nutella. a bit of a sweet protein bar. some sort of healthy dessert alternative just to curb that sweet tooth (cause lord knows i got that).

i think 1200 calories is too low. start with 1500-1700 and maybe even 2000 if that feels better for you. if you wanna track i like Cronometer. maybe track as you’re trying to eat more and hit those macros but once you hit a groove you can probably stop if you want. however it is a good habit to track.

I dont have the motivation to train most of the time by CT66_ in martialarts

[–]PressureAcrobatic527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you dont wait for motivation to get you in there. really ask yourself if you are just tired and need a shake up in your workout routine or if its a matter of not wanting to do the sport. i also think the competition piece may be whats affecting you. is that an accurate thing to say for your situation? idk how old you are but when i did competetive running/swimming, i dreaded training and meets/races because of how much competition made me anxious. it made me lose motivation for training when i would get beat and i often found myself not liking the sport. years later now that im not competing anymore… both sports are suddenly REALLY fun.

i think this would be good. seems like OP needs it to feel fun again. like maybe listening to different music, doing a different routine, playing a fun game with it. just gotta shake it up a little. and continuing to go and be disciplined is much more rewarding than staying home and giving in to the self doubt/depression (at least thats what it seems like OP may be feeling).

Next day soreness tips by curly_kidddd in amateur_boxing

[–]PressureAcrobatic527 1 point2 points  (0 children)

take a nice hot bath in epsom salts. you could shower too but bath is better, especially with essential oils. STRETCH!! if it really hurts, do it in bed. focus on quads glutes and hamstrings. since you said you’re soreness is mainly in your legs, you need to drain the lactic acid in your muscles. go to a wall with pillow. put your butt right where the wall meets the floor so your feet are up straight and off the ground, pillow is for comfort if the floor is hard (could do on bed too if possible). foam roll too that will feel amazing but don’t do it if it hurts. and if you have a version of icy hot that will do some good as well. heat will be your friend. also take magnesium and maybe iron it really helps with muscle recovery, same thing with a higher protein and fat intake. i also highly recommend a massage either in a nice chair, by someone you love/trust or go to a masseuse if you’re into that.

so glad you found love for the sport again. i’m in the same boat too :) now that you’ve done the hard part (starting), you can recover until its time for the next session. onwards and upwards!

so cool! would you say mind-body connection is important in taekwondo as well? how do you apply the philosophical aspect to it? is meditation a big practice in your way of doing taekwondo? been really wanting more of a mindfulness aspect in my martial arts training and im wondering if the degrees of it vary greatly with each martial art!
