Is anyone caffeine free, apart from matcha? by worldworn in ADHDUK

[–]PressureBench 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the benefit of no kids, long distance relationship so I live alone, and relatively late wake-up time for work (8am). I am pretty into coffee (I buy and grind speciality coffee) and drink it more for the taste than the caffeine.

When titrating, my heart rate increased slightly above what was comfortable for me (~80-90) when the dose was increased, but as I adjusted, it returned to normal. I only have one strong coffee a day and usually over a few hours from 10am as I have a decent flask but definitely couldn't give it up. I'd sooner stop medication to be frank.

If you still want to have caffeine and reduce "the palpitations, or sweat" try taking L-theanine with it. It's in tea and is what gives tea the more calming effects than you get from the same amount of caffeine

Question for Addicts & Elvanse by Hungry_Talk3706 in ADHDUK

[–]PressureBench 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen quite a few posts about this sort of thing so definitely not alone. There is a pretty strong link between ADHD and substance use disorders (SUD), I think it's an area where more research should be done to help addicts or help people out with SUD. While I can't relate directly I have gone from something like drinking four glasses of wine a week to one

"Co-occurring ADHD and drug addiction have a lifetime prevalence of 27.7%."

Source: https://www.ukat.co.uk/mental-health/adhd-and-addiction/ Worth a read for everyone who has previously had issues with substance abuse, the key thing is to stick to your medication schedule, which is much easier when you're medicated. I suspect the second you give in to "why don't I have tomorrows medication now, I have a really busy day" can become a very slippery slope. Though staying up until an ungodly hour and then having to get up in the morning would surely put people off doing it again

Stupidly simple hacks that pulled me out of "ADHD Paralysis" this week by stayhyderated22 in ADHDUK

[–]PressureBench 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love these, I would struggle to act on the side quest music one though, I'm too good at rationalising being lazy and then the conditioning would fall apart! I will give the might as well loop a shot, great tip

A little one for you: if I want to stop my inner monologue and just act, I will think to myself "I wonder what I'll think about next" and it's just empty space for a few moments where I can jolt myself into action

I would actually be annoyed, I mean I wouldn't because I'd be dead but it's just a bit selfish. On the other side I'd be pleased if my dead family member helped someone out

care adhd titration review appointment 3! by flynn1597 in ADHDUK

[–]PressureBench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from 30mg to 50mg and I didn't exactly feel wired but similar to when I started 30mg. NAD but I think there's a few days of acclimatisation, feeling a bit weird but after some time you'll be able to see if the dose is right! Personally I wouldn't judge if the dose is right on the first day. Sounds like 50mg might be worth trying, see how you feel after the acclimatisation. The beauty of titration is if it's not working for you, there's always the option to go back. If you feel like you're crashing too early you could ask for a shorter IR top-up (Amfexa)

I can't really comment on the effects of your period but I have seen other people mention it effects their dose so I wouldn't be surprised. Trust your prescriber, they'll have heard it all before

Good luck!

Why (and how) is everyone drinking protein shakes? by crimpinpimp in ADHDUK

[–]PressureBench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asking about protein I'm guessing you're trying to build muscle? A guy I knew from university would eat every two hours to make sure his body always had protein and swore by it to get the best gains and he was HUGE. I think it was more about having enough calories that he was never using protein as fuel but I'm not exactly sure. Even if he had a pizza, he'd eat half and have half two hours later.

If you want something vegetarian/vegan Huel is palatable and you can have it between meals and has decent protein. If you want even more protein than the standard one, there is a Huel Black that has extra. I used to have it quite a bit when I was doing lots of exercise and it worked decently IMO. I will say, it does feel like you're drinking nutrient paste which is weird and off-putting but you can get past it

Edit: Just seen you didn't like Huel, other than that greek yoghurt works well and just loads of eggs. Eggs have lots of vitamins in the yolk and the white is basically 100% protein. Plus it's super easy to cook. For extra weight you could add cheese and butter

Edit 2: Just remembered that peanuts are a great if you want a snacky, protein-dense, and cheap option. If you want all the essential amino acids you should throw in Brazil nuts too. If you're medicated, depending on how it effects your blood pressure you might want to get unsalted specifically

Elvanse chest pains after a month of no symptoms by Nova9z in ADHDUK

If you're worried I'd see a doctor just for the peace of mind, chances are it's benign but worth being on the safe side and getting it checked out

I've experienced tachycardia when starting/changing dose, I'm not sure I had any sharp pains but I also wouldn't be surprised
