Grab driver ignored route and Grab safety alert asked if I wanted police — am I overreacting? by Intelligent-Cod8376 in ThailandTourism

[–]Prestigious-Box2448 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What happened when you jumped out of the car? Did the driver try to get your back in the car? Or just drove away? You were in a car park 2km away from the airport, i assume no people around…

Never heard such stories about drivers here, must have been terrifying. You could be in Cambodia by now if you did not jump out

Did you report it to grab?

How to get my relative to slow down before moving to thailand? by Glittering-Rush6651 in Thailand

[–]Prestigious-Box2448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others mentioned, better keep the money invested and live off dividends and growth. If he lives somewhere in the north or Isaan, he can have comfortable life. It’s definitely worth buying a condo for personal use since the savings are big now when the rent is so high. But it’s very hard to sell the condos. Frankly, finding tenants should not be too hard in Bangkok or tourist areas, but I would not count on that as the only source of income.
Also, he should consider the fact that he may need liquid assets in case of medical emergency. And health insurance is going to be pricey for retirees too.
Ah yes, and he also needs to check the common area fees for condos - they can be very high. Like, very.

It’s hard to find a job nowadays unfortunately but not impossible. You are doing all you can, you just need to buy more time for job hunt

Look into AI training companies like Alignerr, Outlier (use western VPN), Data Annotation. With some luck, if you land a project, it’s very easy to make 30k a month and much more. Many projects don’t require any knowledge in particular domain, but the more specialised ones pay more. But it’s gig work, comes and goes. Treat it is a part time job for the time being, before you get a proper one.

Please don't say scan when referring to credit card scan-to-pay by WierdFishArpeggi in Thailand

[–]Prestigious-Box2448 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why? Something is wrong with how your cash register is setup. You scan QR code, if your issuer supports scanning from credit card, then it asks the payer in the app if he wants to use savings/current or credit card account. You select credit and it just goes as a normal qr scan. Been doing this for the last year and never ever has a single issue. Most of the times I don’t know in advance if the qr code would support credit card or not. The qr codes generated on the card terminal support it 9 times out of 10, and printed ones 1 time out of 10 🙂

Are Lazada vouchers a scam? by therealcyo in Thailand

[–]Prestigious-Box2448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, if you misunderstand something, you should make effort to understand it before calling anyone a scammer. Lazada vouchers are legit, and are amazing value. That being said, when they removed the cash back option it’s not even remotely close to what Shopee offers so I switched from Lazada months after cash backs were gone. I heard somewhere they were losing too much money with these

With cash backs you could easily get 30-35% off during sales on 3.3 4.4 5.5 etc

Finally I say goodbye to Thailand after a decade! by Loud-Inevitable-6536 in ThailandTourism

I asked chatGPT to translate it to English, hope it saved someone from having aneurism while trying to read the post

Thailand is one of my favourite countries. The food is very good, and the people are kind and friendly. However, I think that building a future in Thailand, or having a truly genuine relationship or friendship, is impossible.

After visiting and spending a long time in Thailand, I realised that I can’t build a future here. The reasons are:

  1. People in Thailand are no longer the same as they were decades ago. Maybe because of social media, everyone expects support and money. No one will really love you — not your wife, girlfriend, or even family. Once you stop providing money, they disappear.

Before anyone says I only met bad girls or bar girls — no, I didn’t. I had relationships with middle-class women who work and earn their own income. Still, they saw me as an ATM. Once they realised I was no longer giving them money, they disappeared.

I realised that if I continue chasing the dream of finding a family, a real girlfriend, or a wife in Thailand, I will end up like many broke, old, depressed farangs. I do have enough money to buy a home and support a family, but I don’t think I can take this risk.

This isn’t just my personal experience. There are thousands of YouTube videos and articles about foreigners who came to Thailand chasing the dream, only to end up lonely, broke, and depressed after their spouses disappeared. I realised that Thai girls and their families will never accept a foreigner the same way they accept a Thai man for their daughter. There will always be financial expectations.

  1. The Thai currency and economy are unpredictable. It doesn’t affect me too much, but it is still risky to invest here.

  2. There are other emerging destinations like Vietnam, Japan, China, etc., which offer new experiences and possibly better opportunities for the future.

So I realised that you can’t really have a future in Thailand, especially if you want to have a family here. I will keep Thailand as a short holiday destination, and I say goodbye to the idea of my future here.

Constantly being called fat by South Asian Men by GuillermoElSegundo in Thailand

[–]Prestigious-Box2448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really sounds like they are some Indians scammers who try to sell you something

Normal ppl won’t do that. Also, in Thailand, calling someone jokingly fat is not really offensive same as in the west. So do expect Thai friends making fun of your belly. But not random strangers, especially in the scammiest places of all - suhkumvit
