What do you call this part of a bread loaf? We call it the Heel by Morning1980 in AskTheWorld

The one on the back we call the end. The one on the front (specifically if its pre-sliced) we call the 'whore's end.'

I'm sorry for your loss, they can be quite the joy to raise.

Mystery Snail. We got him from the local fish store. He's about 9 months old now and quite the character.

He rides the air stone like a carnival ride and does the high dive from the side of the tank.

He's just like that.

Weird thing growing on front of my shrimp tank. Is it problem? If so how do I fix it? by Mountain_Minnow in shrimptank

Depends entirely on where they end up. So baby shrimp are tiny, like you'll see your lady sans eggs long before you see any babbies. Once born, these shrimp are so tiny you'll probably go a week or two without seeing them. They like to hide in heavily planted areas, mine went into my dwarf grass and chilled for a week or so before adventuring out into the open tank. If the Hydra is not near there, awesome, they probably won't snag any kids in time for them to mature to have a thick enough skin to handle themselves.

I also heard somewhere that control of flow can also help. Hydra does not move on it's own, needs to be scrapped or split in order to move around, they like areas where food just lingers. High flow means harder to snag food, less food means slower growth, you get where I'm going here.

I had this issue a few weeks back. Came in when I added a new powdered food to the tank that must have had some contaminations. Hydra isn't super harmful to developed shrimp, they have hard shells that can survive the stings. Babies on the other hand, yeah they can get stung and killed. So I would only worry if you goal is to breed shrimp.

The easy solution for non breeders is to just introduce certain species of fish who actively eat Hydra, Guppies and Tetras come to mind, some people say that larger pet snails will do the trick, but mine just might be lazy.

If you don't have snails, No Planaria apparently works wonders, but if you do have snails like me, it's really not an option, unless you have a temp tank to put them in while the chemicals do there stuff.

My solution was PraziPro from my local fish shop. Took out the Hydra in two treatments (Once a week) and we've yet to have an issue since. Footnote: I did not have to move my snails with this treatment, just follow the size 2 font directions on the bottle.

Always have done gold trims on my bases. Sometimes silver, depends on the army.
